.:Physical Appearance:.
As Rumplestilskin: The dark one is the obvious product of wicked enchantment. His skin is a shade of gold and green with an almost leather like texture. His fingernails end in almost claw like black nails and his eyes are like those of a reptile with amber coloration. His brown hair is long and falls in messy curls around his angular face.
As Mr Gold: Mr Gold always carries himself with the poise of a gentleman and the confidence of a lion. Though he requires a cane to walk his confidence is enhanced by his formal dress in a trim business suit and the clothing of a wealthy individual. His hair lays long and flat with brown that are streaked with grey. His eyes are a cool brown but belie the years of experience hidden in them.

.:Portrayed by:. Robert Carlyle| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:.
As Rumplestilskin: The Dark one has become more than a little manic over the centuries gone by. He is impish and sometimes childlike in both his demeanor and his mischievousness. Rumplestilskn is always seeking first his own interest and is unafraid to manipulate others to get what he wants. Things are but a means to an end and he isn’t afraid to remind others of why they should fear him. What shreds of humanity remain in his black heart do shine through on occasion. He enjoys a good deal and loves to have fun, viewing people as sort of toys for his enjoyment.
As Mr Gold: Mr Gold conducts himself with a great deal more maturity than he did when he was Rumplestilskin. Gold seems to understand that this world is more based on laws and regulations and he takes an interest in manipulating those. He’s a study of human psychology now and while he is still happy to make deals and use his power for his benefit he does so with a much more reserved manner.
.:Strengths:.
Arcane Master: Rumplestilskin possesses an almost omnipotent level of magic at his fingertips from conjuring, transformations, enhanced physicality, teleportation, telekinesis, and an almost infinite amount of other magic abilities. His understanding of magic has also given him a great deal of awareness of other magic users, potions, and objects able to quickly decipher and understand how they work.
Cunning: Even without his magic, Rumplestilskin is still an expert strategist and is able to frequently see the big picture of things. His knowledge of the human condition and helps him to be able to predict and manipulate others while being aware when someone is trying to play him.
Analytical: Rumplestilskin has been able to show off his mental faculties on more than one occasion. Where his body may be weak without magic his mind is still sharp and he is able to quickly use both Deductive and Abductive reasoning both successfully to get an understanding of just what is going on around him.
.:Weaknesses:.
The Dagger: Rumplestilskin receives his dark powers by way of the enchanted dagger that he used to kill the last dark one Sozo. Whomever comes into possession of this dagger is capable of completely controlling Rumplestilskin and is one of the few (if not only) weapons that can actually kill him.
Moral Fortitude: Rumplestsklin is a weak man. He has been betrayed and hurt so many times that his moral compass is practically non-existent. Having been the recipient of so much selfishness in life he now views himself as the most important thing in the world. “If I have to choose between everyone else and me, me wins every time.”
Coward: Underneath it all Rumplestilskin is still a coward. He grasps at the few things in life that he feel can give him happiness and is terrified of opening himself up to being hurt, abandoned, or powerless again. It is this very fear that cost him his son and later on almost every chance at happiness.| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |

In The Enchanted Forest: Wool Spinner, Soldier, Sorcerer

.:History:.
Young Rumplestiltskin grew up without a mother. His father Malcolm was a swindler and a cheat but he was all Rumple had and he loved him in spite of his flaws. It was during his youth that Rumple learned how to spin wool by a pair of kindly old women whom he was living with while his father went away to ‘work’. The women were good in heart and worried for Rumples happiness. Given Malcolm’s reputation they worried that Rumple would never be able to find happiness in this world and so they gifted to him a magic bean so that he and his father could travel away and escape Malcolm’s sordid past in town.
Together Rumple and Malcolm used the Magic Bean to travel to the realm of Neverland where it seemed they could both make a fresh start and live happily. But the joy was not to last as Malcolm discovered that should he wish to return to his youth and carefree nature he would have to give up Rumple. Malcolm made a deal with the Shadow of Neverland to return Rumple from whence he came and while Rumple begged his father for them not to be apart his father pulled away and condemned the young boy to being returned alone to the Enchanted Forest.
Rumple was adopted by the kind wool spinners and they helped to raise him. Over the years Rumple tried to move on. He was even able to marry a woman named Milah and they lived with relative contentment.
With the ever looming threat of the Ogres it wasn’t very long before Rumplestilskin was drafted into the army. During training however Rumple was instructed to watch over an important prisoner, a seer who would have visions of the future. In return for an act of kindness the Seer tells Rumplestilskin that Milah is pregnant and that soon his actions on the battle field would leave the boy fatherless. Out of fear for the fate of himself and his son, Rumple cripples himself so that he can return home. His return home however was not met with joy but rather disdain from Milah who is repulsed by Rumples cowardice, going so far as to admit she would have rather Rumple died than for him to have run.
The years rolled by and Milah and Rumplestilskins marriage grew worse and worse. Milah would frequently journey into town and cavort with one Killian Jones at the local tavern. When she would come home the two would frequently argue over the fate of their family. Milah was eager to leave this place (and Rumples bad reputation) behind, but Rumple feared for Baelfire. The discussion came to a close one day when Milah was taken by Killian and Rumple was too cowardly to fight Killian to have her returned. Unable to confess the truth to his son he told Baelfire that Milah was dead.
Rumplestilskin wasn’t the only one suffering though. As the rest of the kingdom became embroiled in another terrible war with the ogres the children were soon being conscripted into the army. Rumple terrified at the prospect of his son fighting in that terrible war convinces Baelfire to run. Their desertion is found out and Rumple is warned that in three days his son WILL be taken. As the soldiers leave both Rumple and Baelfire are offered help by a strange man in exchange for a little bit of food. While Baelfire sleeps then Rumplestilskin and the old man discuss a magical dagger that is in the Dukes castle with which he controls The Dark One; a powerful creature with almost limitless magic at their disposal. Rumple manages to steal the Dagger and uses it to summon The Dark One to him. After a little goading by the Dark figure Rumplestilskin stabs the mage through the chest with the dagger. Upon the attack, Rumplestilskin discovers that the Dark One is none other than the old man who had told him of the dagger in the first place. With his dying breath the man explains that his conscious could not bear the evil he had done and warns Rumple that “All magic comes with a price.” With the Old Mans death, Rumplestilskin inherited the power of the Dark One and being in control of the dagger he was free to use his power as he wished. The first act of which was to kill the knights that had humiliated him and threatened his son.
Using his new powers allows Rumple to quickly bring an end to the Ogre War but the Dark magic continues to influence and poison Rumples heart. His new power does not come without a price for as his wickedness grows and continues to consume him, it estranges his relationship with his son. Baelfire wonders that if Rumplestilskin did not have his power he would not be a target for attack which Rumple explains that now the only way to be rid of the magic is to be killed. The two come to an agreement, that if Baelfire was able to find a way for Rumple to be free of the magic (without it resulting in his untimely death) that they would take it. Baelfire made good on his word and returned with a magic bean to take them to a land without magic… But when push came to shove, Rumple chose his power and let Baelfire through the portal alone. Once the portal was close however, the Dark one wept and in a fury demands the Blue Fairy send him. During the discussion the Blue Fairy accidentally informs the evil mage about a curse that could bring the two together.
Time rolled by and soon a less pleasant reunion was had by Rumplestilskin, not with his son… but his ex wife. Rumple had been promised a magic bean in return for eternal life by one William Smee, a pirate. That same night Rumplestilskin saw Killian Jones and his crew. Following them the pirate remembered Rumple as both the Dark One and as the coward so many years ago. In a brief duel Rumple's new powers prove more than a match for the swashbuckler until Milah (very much alive) interrupts. She tells Rumple that the kidnapping was a lie to cover her running away with Hook willingly. A new deal is made that for the magic bean Rumple allow Milah and Killian to live free. Rumple eventually demanded of Milah to know how she could leave their son motherless and she tells Rumple she was miserable in her marriage and never loved him which is what drove her to her poor decision. Rumple in a rage rips her heart from her chest to kill her and removes Killian's hand that was supposedly holding the magic bean. Upon leaving the ship Rumplestilskin realizes the bean was not in the hand and that Hook had already used it to escape.
Rumplestiltskin would go on to have many strange adventures, his fate crossing paths with many of the most prominent figures of the Enchanted Forest, sometimes by chance and other times by his own design. This included but is not limited to meeting the famous thief Robin Hood, teaching the woman Cora, her two daughters Regina and Zelena, giving one young prince David to King George to be raised as a royal replacement, meeting the princesses of Arendelle Anna and Elsa. One such adventure was the beginning of his plans for enacting The Dark Curse. Enlisting the aid of Cruella De Villa, Ursula, and Maleficent he used them to infiltrate Bald Mountain and used them to distract the Curse guardian Chernabog.
After a while, Rumple was summoned by Sir Maurice to act as a protector for his kingdom from Ogres. Rumple agreed but in exchange he asked for Maurice daughter, Belle as payment. The young lady was over the course of time able to begin chipping away at the blackness in Rumples heart. She convinced him to act good (or less evil) on a number of occasions. Ever so slowly he begins to return the kindness at the start by giving her a library and over time allowing her an increasing amount of freedom. During this time Belle began to find herself understanding Rumple better. She pieced together his yearning for a lost companion and soon was beginning to grow to love him. One day Belle was abducted by Cruella, Ursula, and Maleficent and used as a ransom to get back a magic gauntlet from Rumplestiltskin. Rumple paid the debt and in a tender moment shared between he and Belle began to wonder if he indeed did love her and reciprocate her feeling.
The fate of Belle and Rumplestilskin had still yet to be determined. Rumples possessive nature on her was slowly ebbing away and he allowed her bits of more freedom. Over several months he eventually allowed her to go into town to retrieve straw for him. In truth Rumple didn’t expect the young woman to return. Much to his surprise not only did she return of her own free will but she also professed her love for him and the two shared a kiss. As he begins to transform back into a human he became enraged by the prospect. When Belle explained that she had heard that love might break the spell, Rumple in a fit of rage had her once again locked away. Soon after he gave reflection on the matter he was swift to banish Belle from his sight. His depression at the loss of his new found love was made all the more terrible when Regina visited and told him of the terrible fate that had befallen Belle upon her return which ultimately ended with a terrible suicide. In remorse, Rumple soon placed the chipped teacup of their first day together in a position of prominence in his collection as a token to his dearly departed.
Tracking down the King George’s family godmother brought him into the life of Cinderella. Arriving just in time to interrupt the deal being enacted between the young girl and the fairy he was quick to kill the good fairy godmother so that he could take possession of her wand. Offering Cinderella a deal with him in which he would change her life in return for an undefined return of something valuable to her later. Cinderella, desperate for a change signs the contract and leaves Rumple in the possession of his new wand and a new favor to add to his collection.
After a time Rumplestilskin was once again able to puppet master Snow White and Prince Charming. It began by giving to Snow White a potion to help her forget the love she felt so that she would only focus on her revenge and hatred towards Regina. Soon after he aided Charming in being able to stop Snow White from murdering Regina to save her soul. In doing this he had gained two strands of hair from the royals and with them was able to entwine them and finally created a potion of True Love.
Rumplestilskin master plan to create the Dark Curse received another in road to success and as a sort of magical fail safe was able to imbued the paper with a drop of True Loves magic. Tracking down Prince Charming whom was already in dire straits to find Snow White the Dark One offers him another deal. Informing David that he desired for the two of them to be together the same as Charming did. The trade that was propose (and accepted) was that Charming would protect the true love potion by having it embedded in the stomach of a dragon and in return Rumple would help Charming to find his true love.
With the war with the evil queen drawing to a close with her capture, Rumplestilskin was quick to further along his master scheme. He offered to Snow White an enchanted dagger with which she could test Regina to see if she may give up her murderous revenge. The queen failed her moral test and was made aware of the weapons magical powers that whomever used it would become unable of harming Snow White or her Prince Charming so long as they remained in the Enchanted Forest. Enraged by being able to enact her revenge, Rumplestilskin offered to her a solution.. The Dark Curse which would move them out of this land and make them vulnerable to Regina’s wrath. This it of information was all Queen Regina needed to begin readying to enact the Dark Curse that Rumple had been waiting for.
Many months since Cinderella’s wedding, Rumplestiltskin returned to claim her first born child as per their agreement. Cinderella revealed to Rumple that she was in possession of twins and wished to alter her deal. When the time came for Rumple to sign the contract it was quickly apparent the ink on the quill was that of the large squid which paralysis powers were enough to freeze the Dark One in his tracks.
While being taken into custody Rumplestilskin was able to make one last spiteful move by banishing Thomas away before he was taken into the prison and there he waited. With the impending threat of the Dark Curse, Prince Charming and Snow White visit Rumplestiltskin in the prison. Always ready to make a deal, Rumple agrees to help the Charmings in exchange for the name of their baby girl Emma who is also the only one who could save the inhabitants from the curse. Still incarcerated Rumpel was visited by another visitor. This time it was Regina who had difficulty inacting the Dark Curse. Rumple again eager to make a deal offers her a solution to her difficulty but in exchange in the new world he wanted riches and influence and most importantly that if he ever came to her for anything she could not deny him if he asked with a Please.
There in his cell Rumplestilskin the Dark One waited as the curse was enacted. As the darkness swirled about and began to overtake the inhabitants of the enchanted forest Rumplestilskin was visited one last time by Queen Regina. As she relished in her success, Rumplestilskin explained that now the method to stop and break her curse was already in place. He took a little added delight in rubbing salt in the wound by informing her that there would now be a hole in her heart from the sacrifice she had to make for this curse. A price Rumple had been unable or rather unwilling to make himself. Moments later they were all taken away from this realm and into the land of Storybrooke.| ~ • ~ | Sample Post | ~ • ~ |
An eerie silence filled the still air of the Dark Castle. No one dared to venture into the dark ones domain without purpose and that was just the way Rumplestilskin liked it. The sound of his boots heels clicking against the smooth marble floor were all that could be heard before a pair of massive doors groaned as they were pushed open. The massive panels of wood normally would require the most physically fit of soldiers but the dark one needed little in the way of brute strength to will them open.
In his hand was his latest bauble to add to the collection. The item itself was of little to no value to Rumplestilskin, it was a magic cloth that when it was rubbed against metal would change it to silver. The transient qualities weren’t needed by Rumple but he couldn’t have someone else out there making a profit with so cheap a notion. The boy who had made the trade.. What was his name again? Rumple hadn’t really given it much thought.. Francis? Fredrick? Oh well it mattered little. The boy had used the cloth to make a lot of money but it meant nothing when it came the death of his father. The boy had been willing to trade his precious cloth to try and save the life of his father.. Rumple would only be able to slightly prolong the mans life but the boy should have known that once you’re dead you’re dead.
Folding the embroidered cloth into a square he placed it onto a shelf in one of the cabinets.. The boy certainly had wanted to save his father. It had been enough to stick with Rumple as he had left. Gazing at the cloth and seeing the shimmering gold and silver thread hurt the enchanters heart. Turning around he made his way to the spinning wheel in the corner. The boy, the thread, it all brought back so many memories. Sitting down on the stool he began to spin the wheel and slowly changed the wool into gold and slowly he let his mind drift..
