Emma and Henry had a new life here in New York. They were much happier than they had been in a long time. She remembered awhile back, when they were just driving, with no idea where to go. They were drawn to New York. No matter what though, they always had each other. That was the one constant in their lives. She had just got home from a very... odd night from a job she was trying to get. She had been a bounty hunter once before, but she quit because of Henry. Now though, Neal was back in the picture, and he could help out if needed.
"Hey, Kid," she called in to his room. "I brought dinner. Your dad will be here soon." She shook the bag she held with a smile, but he was too engrossed with the comic book he was reading. He was polite about it, but Emma still felt bad. Something was bothering him, and she couldn't figure out what it was.
Breathing a sigh, she walked in to the kitchen, and sat the bags on the counter. She felt a little nervous. She and Neal were working things out, and it was going well.. She just hoped it wasn't taking a toll on Henry.

Let's go back | | Back to the beginning | Ever since listening to August and letting Emma go to jail, Neal had moved himself to New York to start a new life. There had been something that told him to go there when he made the choice to escape somewhere. It was like it was drawing him there, and, that he was meant to be there.
Neal found out why when Emma turned up there one day, with her son. His son. Maybe his father was right, 'everything that happens does happen for a reason'. It allowed him to be the father to his son that he always wanted, and, also to get a chance at a fresh start with Emma. Things were going well between them for the most part.
When he had finished work, Neal headed over to Emma and Henry's apartment. Neal gave Emma some space by keeping his own apartment, so that he didn't overwhelm her all at once.
Soon he reached the apartment where his family lived, and, he made his way inside. Neal had a key, just in case of emergencies, and, he let himself inside, smiling as he saw Emma. "Hey Emma. How'd the interview go?"
His life had been relatively normal, and, for once it hadn't been changed or turned upside down by being forced to move or leave someone behind. Neal just hoped it would last this time.

Note: proper gif coming soon! It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Oh bloody hell, this was not going to be easy. Hook had his fair share of seemingly impossible tasks that he had managed to successfully get through but this . . . this particular one was going to be extremely difficult. He knew it was worth it, he had to do it, but that didn't mean it was going to be easy. It was his job to convince two people that he greatly cared about to return to Storybrooke for the others needed their Savior.
There was just one problem with that: one of those people hated him due to the most recent memories he had, and the other . . . well, the other didn't even know Hook existed. It was painful to imagine both things, but he had to do it. He wished Emma and Neal the best, knowing there was nothing else he could do to be with Emma. Besides, the young lad deserved a chance to have both parents in his life and that was perhaps why Hook never felt any resentment.
He loved both Emma and Neal enough to let them go. So his return wasn't about him. It was for the greater good. He supposed that this was the man that Emma had changed him into: a better man, doing something a little more selfless than usual -- despite his recent actions back in the Enchanted Forest. It was also why he knew it would be easier going to Emma first rather than Neal.
Neal still blamed him for a lot so Hook found himself preferring to approach someone who held no memory of him at all. Thus, here he was, back in the dreadful city of New York. He managed to track down where Emma was residing, unsure if Neal was staying with her or not. The thought brought up feelings of jealousy, but he knew it was no longer his place to feel such emotions. Instead, he took a deep breath, braced himself, and knocked on the door with his hand. Here we go . . .

When Neal opened the door and walked in, Emma gave him a small smile. "Hey Neal.. hungry?" She was already pulling the food containers out of the bags. It was chinese. It was quick, and always seemed to hit the spot. When he asked how her job went, she sighed. "Well, I guess it was alright.." She seemed confident, yet she was also a little distracted at the same time. "Alright, it was horrible. I couldn't do it. Something was holding me back.. I don't know. Maybe i'm just not the person I was before." She gave a small shrug. She couldn't explain it.. it was like she didn't belong in that particular line of work anymore. She almost just wanted to be a cop. "I have a follow up interview next week so.. we'll see how it goes. Don't say anything to Henry yet though.."
Just as she was about to call Henry for dinner, she heard a knock at the door. She quirked a brow and looked at Neal questionably. "Was anyone following you?" Emma never got visitors aside from Neal..she mostly kept to herself, so obviously she was a little bothered. She walked toward the door, and opened it, seeing someone who she..really didn't know. "Can I help you?"

Let's go back | | Back to the beginning | At Emma's question he nodded “Yeah, I am. I haven't eaten since my break at work.” Neal said, smiling softly at Emma. Neal took off his jacket placing it on the coat rack as he noticed Emma already pulling the food out of the bags. Chinese food. It was something he loved, a lot more when he was eating it with people he loved or cared about. Hearing what Emma said about the job interview made him smile before nodding at her confession to the truth “Maybe it just proved that you've just grown. And you know what you want or don't want.” Neal understood what Emma was thinking. The job he had didn't feel right to him, he felt like he belonged more in the pawnshop job that he'd had when he was a kid. “Cross my heart I won't say a word.” Neal knew how to keep a secret when he had to.
Neal raised his head as he heard a knock on the door, it was weird. Since there wasn't much visitors to their apartment, the three of them kept to themselves a lot. Noticing Emma's look, he shook his head “Not that I know of” Neal said, as he moved over to the bench where the Chinese food was. Neal took over serving it out, while Emma went to answer the door. Seeing who it was made Neal almost drop the container in his hands. “It can't be.” Neal said, in a soft whisper, as he stayed staring at the door.

Note: proper gif coming soon! It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Seeing Emma robbed him of all thought for a moment, as he softly smiled at her beautiful sight. The two -- well three inclusive of Henry -- of them were lucky. They did not have to recall the pain of losing a loved one. They held no memories of them. But Snow, Charming, Regina . . . and him . . . well, they all felt the loss for they'd each had to say goodbye to someone they loved. And now, Killian was once again burdened with the memory of a year without her, while the others were at least fortunate to have lost their memories as well. It seemed that was Killian's worst curse: to remember.
She had asked him a question and he quickly attempted to regain himself, but a deeper voice broke the silence and tht was when Hook noticed who else was here. Well, so much for his plan of approaching Emma first. "Greetings, mate," he said with a bit of a smile, pushing away whatever emotions threatened to surface. He was not here for himself . . . he was not here to try and steal Emma back. He was here because her family and the others needed her; needed all of them. "Look, before you say or do anything, you need to hear me out. Just give me a few moments of your time." He was pleading with both of them as his gaze went between Neal and Emma, not just Neal for perhaps Emma could help appeal to Killian's case. Considering Neal's last memory of Hook. A nickname that for the time being was concealed by the glove he wore in the hook's place. "It is of grave importance," he added on, a sense of urgency on his voice so that they would know this was serious.

Well, this was questionable.
Someone showing up on her doorstep, rather late in the evening, asking to come inside to talk about something gravely important. She spared a glance back at Neal, and he looked a little.. uneasy. She looked back at the man standing at her door, and she stared at him for a long moment. Not because she had recognized him, but because she had a keen sense of telling if someone was lying. This one seemed to be telling the truth.. or at least he believed it was the truth. "Okay," she breathed, stepping aside to allow him in the apartment. They would be safe.
Not only was Neal in the house, but Emma had an itchy trigger finger when it came to potential threats, and was ready to become a mama bear if someone was going to put Henry in danger. Luckily.. he didn't seem dangerous. At least, not to her trained eye for spotting liars. "I've got a gun and you've got five minutes to convince me not to use it." She placed her hands on her hips, glancing at Neal again, as if silently asking if he knew him. "Who are you?" She asked, looking back at the stranger once more.

Let's go back | | Back to the beginning | Neal kept his gaze on the door not wanting to believe his eyes at who he saw standing there. It was so much of a shock that Neal completely forgot that he was still holding the Chinese food container in his hand. It was at Hook's words that he nodded slightly in acknowledgement of his words “Hey” Neal said, the confusion still obvious in his voice. At this point, he tried not to let his anger towards Hook be as obvious at this point in time, especially since he didn't want to freak Emma out by saying she knew this pirate. The words hear him out made Neal want to respond, but, he gently bit his tongue from telling himself the response he wanted to say, and, instead nodded, and, turning his gaze to Emma. The last time he saw this pirate was when he was handed over to the Lost Boys and Pan. When he got his information for how to kill his father. What could possibly be so important now?
“What is so important?” Neal asked, placing the container down and keeping his gaze on Hook and Emma. This pirate was dangerous, and, he wasn't letting him near Emma alone. And, especially not near Henry if it came to it. “We both have ways to knock you out. Why are you here?” Neal asked, as he made his way towards Emma's side. Neal returned Emma's look with one that says 'I'm not sure', which wasn't a lie. Neal was going to answer Emma's question, but, he waited for the pirate to as well. He probably needed the confirmation himself.

Note: proper gif coming soon! It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian walked inside the apartment when Emma stepped aside for him. Her actions were followed by a demand for an explanation and a not so subtle threat to use her gun. Neal had a similar threat only his involved being knocked unconscious. "My, my, tad bit hostile aren't we," he said with joking sarcasm. His eyes were scanning around the apartment as he moved to stand in front of them both. He was not only looking at Emma's new surroundings, but he was also seeing if Henry was around, for he doubted either of them would want their son to hear what Hook had to say right now. He finally turned to look at both Emma and Baelfire, quite aware that his time with them was limited . . . as they had so graciously pointed out. He also took note that Neal did not give any insight into who he was. But if he did, then perhaps it would be easier to convince them both. Particularly Emma.
"I know you don't remember who I am, or the others, but your parents need you Emma." He didn't have time to dance around the subject. "You lived in a town called Storybrooke for some time, over a year ago before you came to New York. And you both need to get back there because something has happened." Well, there it was. The main purpose of his coming here yet he knew there was going to have to be a hell of a lot more explanation. He glanced at Neal, unsure whether he told Emma anything about his past but he supposed they were about to find out. He was now speaking to Emma, but looking at Neal as he spoke. "If you don't believe me love, ask your significant other here which land he came from. For he and I go back quite some time." Centuries in fact. He only hoped that by divulging this truth, would open up the conversation that needed to be had . . . and would add just a flicker of intrigue that could eventually lead to believability.

Emma, although appreciative of Neal wanting to protect her and Henry, knew she could handle herself.. but she didn't say anything. She didn't want to start any sort of argument right now. Besides.. she was too untrusting right now. Something was going on, and Neal wasn't telling her about it. When the man came in and started to explain what the dire situation was, she nearly stopped him when he mentioned 'parents'. She didn't have a family. Well.. not anymore, at least. They were long gone. But he went on telling her about a town called Storybrooke. The name alone sounded made up. Not to mention..she'd been there for a year? Impossible. She'd never been anywhere by that name.
She was just about to ream him for being insane, when he spoke of how Neal could back up his story. Emma turned to him, as if asking him a silent question before rounding on Killian. "What do you mean, my family?" And then, she turned to Neal once more. "Do you have any idea what he's talking about? Someone better explain what's happening to me right now before I take Henry and leave.." She had her voice set to a hushed tone so that the boy wouldn't have to hear. She was concerned.

Let's go back | | Back to the beginning | At Hook's comment, Neal resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “I'm always hostile until I'm given a reason not to be.” Neal said looking straight into Hook's eyes. Neal knew that Hook would know what he meant by that, since they both knew their history. Neal glanced around the apartment to make sure that Henry wasn't in sight, this pirate had already broken his heart, and, made him feel like nothing. He didn't want him to do the same thing to Henry. Or Emma for that matter. How he had found him in this world he still wasn't quite sure, but, then again pirate ships can travel across many realms.
Neal's gaze went between Emma and Hook as he seemed to direct all of his conversation at her rather then him. Keeping his hands in his pockets, Neal raised his eyebrows as he spoke of Storybrooke, a town he didn't know much about, but, this could've been that town that August was talking about. He wasn't sure what he should say, but, luckily at this point it didn't matter. Since he still seemed content on talking to Emma. But, just as suddenly Hook seemed to direct part of the conversation at him, and, hinting at the fact that he'd ruin everything with just one simple statement.
His attention went towards Emma as he kept his hands in his pockets, and, his eyebrows raised worringly as she threatened about taking Henry away. “No Emma. Don't, don't do that. I can admit I do have some idea what's going on. Remember how I told you I had been a few places before going into the foster system all those years ago, well, this man Ho... Killian was someone I knew from one of those places. It was a different kind of place.” Neal said, looking at Hook slightly before turning back to face Emma, and, letting out a soft sigh “We should probably hear him out. At least a little bit longer.”

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian remained silent as Emma demanded to know what was going on, otherwise she would leave with her boy. Neal told her not to and admitted that he had an idea of what he was referring to. Or at least, the general summary Hook had given. He wondered if it was almost better than Emma separate from Neal so that he could give her the memory potion. He only had enough for one and considering the fact that Neal already had some of his memories, and the fact that Emma was the Savior, it was only logical to ensure she got it. For once, Killian's intentions were not for selfish purposes of his want for her to remember him. It was based on rationality. Hook looked between the two of them as Neal conceded that they should hear him out.
"Well, your description of 'a few places' is conveniently ambiguous, mate," he told him sarcastically, though also with truth. "Right now, she trusts you more than me. You need to tell her where you came from in order for me to explain where the both of you have to go now." In order to explain the present and the future, they needed to explain the past. And Hook was jut a leather clad stranger to Emma. Where as Neal . . . was someone she had -- or believed to have -- memories of. Someone she had spent the last year with. The father of her child.
"Go on," he continued, gently urging Neal. He then turned his head to Emma. "And I urge you lass to keep an open mind and listen. For this is all going to sound a bit, far fetched. But it is the truth. And if you don't believe us, well, your built in lie detector will come into effect." Something he knew about her from their past interactions. In fact, it was something she had told him when they first met and he had been pretending to be a victim of an ambush.
