a hero's journey THAT IS INDEED GOOD FORM Killian was so extremely proud, and excited, and a multitude of different emotions that were just overwhelming him. For today, was his brother's engagement ceremony to their long time friend, Elizabeth. He couldn't think of two people more suited to be together than them. They both held similarities in being the kindest, most caring, compassionate, and so many other things, that set them apart from everyone else. Killian, was ecstatic. The young Lieutenant was dressed in his best attire as he had prepared a toast, giving his speech to the engaged couple.
Dinner had followed, and now they were in the hall where there was dancing and mingling among the crowd. His brother deserved all this, and as Captain of the royal navy army, and she being the daughter of a highly respected noble family . . . well, the ceremony of course had to be extravagant. Killian was unable to stop smiling the entire time, and he found he hadn't been able to speak alone with the couple, so made his way through the crowd where Liam and Elizabeth were standing together.
"Brother," he greeted with a playful pat on the arm. "Sister," he said to Elizabeth, taking her hand in his and gently kissing the back of it. "Are you two enjoying the ceremony held entirely in your honor?" He said teasingly, playfully reminding them of all the attention bestowed upon them. "I can't think of two more deserving people. Not only of this, but of all the happiness in the world." And he meant every single word. He was so happy that they had found love in each other and intended to celebrate this perfect union until the late hour.

The entire engagement party was a rather extravagant affair. All of the upper crust of society was there, which wasn't much of a surprise seeing that they'd likely find any excuse to hold a banquet or a ball. This was mostly put together by Elizabeth's family, who was entirely too happy to send Elizabeth in to the arms of Liam, as he was a respected member of the Royal Navy. It was all about who you knew with them.. But for Elizabeth, it was purely about love. She had loved Liam since they were young, and it only grew when they reached adulthood. And now, they were to be wed. She had just made her way back to Liam - previously she'd been snatched away by some of the ladies who were her age that wanted to coo about her 'glow' and fawn over her engagement ring. Did.. she even know these people? Nope.. nothing came to mind. Still though, she had gone along with it, as she always had at events such as these.
Just as she had returned to Liam's side, they were both greeted by Killian. A beaming smile appeared on her face at his greeting. Sister.. it was a title that she likely shared growing up with him, but now it would be a bit more official. She leaned in, and gave him a chaste kiss on the cheek. "Brother," she mused with a grin. "I personally am very much enjoying myself. You know how much I adore these get togethers with all of these fine citizens," she spoke with a cheerful smile before lowering her voice so that only Liam and Killian could hear. "Either of you, please help me.. if any more strange women start grabbing my hand and telling me how lucky I am, I fear that my head will explode," she giggled. She then looked up at Liam with her smile returning. "They do have a point, though. I am quite lucky."
Her eyes once again went to Killian. "Are you enjoying yourself, Killian? Meeting any eligible young women? You know.. you are the next in line to be married." She teased feigning innocence with a bat of her eyelashes.

When they were young, friends only, Liam had be sure that lowly born boys like him and his brother stood no chance with Elizabeth and this conviction had survived for a long time, making him shy away from confessing his changing feelings towards the beauty she had grown to become. He was just a lowly born man, completely disregarding how he had climbed the ranks of the royal navy, earning himself title and respect. He was actually oblivious to how that made him and his brother suddenly very eligible bachelors up until the point where he gathered the courage to ask for her hand – again thanks to Killians gentle ‘nudging’. The younger brother could probably pat himself on the back for making this match happen.
But as he learnt being who he was and being who she was came with a bit of a price: Protocols. And protocols made this event quite a torture for Liam. He usually enjoyed events like this. He loved to mingle, speak to people he considered authority, almost on equal level, if not on equal level tonight. He loved the fact that they earned this respect, it was not freely given, Killian and him had earned every bit of respect given to them at those events and he could not be prouder. But this was his engagement and protocol forbade him to wrap his arms around Elizabeth and just kiss her. He couldn’t kiss her. However Liam was not prepared to breach protocol, not even at his own engagement, no matter how much he desired to just press her to him and kiss her, putting every ounce of joy he felt into it. Because despite feeling more restricted than ever, he was overjoyed to now call Elizabeth his fiancée. At the very least he was allowed to lay his arm around her and hold her close, which felt like not nearly enough.
His relief was probably visible as soon as his brother found them. That, too, bothered him about his own engagement. Killian should have been close to them all the time, sharing in the joy and everything, but again, they had to honor protocol, entertaining everything, which caused them to have to neglect his little brother.
“Killian.”, he greeted almost too happily. “I’d enjoy it more if I was allowed to actually kiss my bride.” But since it could not be helped, he honestly looked forward to being alone with her, and potentially Killian later. He’d be the last person to complain about protocol after all. “I’m afraid this can’t be helped, my dear. Everyone is going to want to talk to you and me. I can’t recall the last time I have been this tired at a social event like this, Killian. Can you?” But at least he had the two most important people by his side and the memory of the third, firmly sitting in his pocket.
“Ha, I’d like to see the day a woman manages to lock down Killian Jones. You know he’s a wild child through and through and the sea is currently not only his mistress but basically his wife. I’d like to see another woman, like you, who’d accept this mistress by her husbands side.”
