It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian was desperate . . . to say the least. Milah had died not too long ago and left with him, was their baby girl. A daughter she had brought into this world. Milah had been sick for some time, and Killian had wanted to do everything in his power to have her. He had gathered the water from Lake Nostros with magical properties to save her, but what they discovered . . . was that they could only save the life of one. It as a decision Killian could never make, but one that Milah had for the three of them.
She refused to drink what little water they could get -- for it was only enough for a single person -- and decided to save their baby. He held Milah in his arms until her last breath making the birth of their daughter so bittersweet. He had named her Milah, after her beautiful mother. There was no time to properly mourn even, for little Milah needed to be cared for . . . and Killian wasn't entirely sure how to do that. He had been to various markets and places to try and gather supplies, including taverns even if it was just for milk. Though even he knew that it wasn't the best drink to give to his daughter, and he wanted nothing but the best for her. But it was there that he heard a rumor of the princess Emma, daughter of Snow and James, was traveling through a nearby town, having gathered supplies for her baby brother Neal. This, seemed like a perfect time for an ambush.
Leaving Milah with Smee, Hook readied his men, able to get an idea of what route the princess was taking. Which was why they were waiting, directly in the path of the carriage. Men charged from the trees nearby, moving behind the carriage and at all sides to block its movements. Killian and the others knocked out the guards, not bothering to kill them because . . . well, he wasn't sure what compelled him not to. He just, didn't. Instead, he eliminated the threat by ensuring they fell unconscious and had previously told his men to do the same. He didn't keep track of where the princess was so as his men fought off the remaining guards, Killian casually made his way to the trunks and began to open them to see if there were any baby things he could steal for his daughter.

Emma loved going in to the villages to shop for her baby brother. He was so spoiled by everyone in the kingdom - and the neighboring kingdoms for that matter with their gifts that they'd send to honor the baby prince, but she loved to coo over him. She had no children of her own, so this was the closest she felt that she would get. Her parents loved her too much to ever marry her off to someone that she didn't love, and so far.. she hadn't found it at all. Sure, there were suitors in the past, but she never felt anything for them, and she let them know it quickly. She was nearly finished shopping when she heard a scuffle outside of a shop where carriages were sold. She was pushing it out when she saw a strange man looting her day's purchases, and saw several men fighting her guards while others laid unconcious - but not bleeding, thankfully - on the ground.
"Excuse me," she called rather nonchalantly, considering the circumstances. "You won't find any gold in there.." Leaving the carriage near the door of the shop, she stepped carefully over one of her guards, after slightly lifting her dress so she wouldn't trip. "Unless you're a pirate who is for some reason searching for diaper cloths, then I suggest you just take this, and be on your way." She held out her coin purse that held the rest of her gold that she had brought from the castle as her spending allowance for the day.

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION A voice distracted Killian from his theivery when he turned to see the princess rather calmly approach the scene. She informed him that the only thing he would find were diaper clothes. A ha! So she did have them here. She held out her coin purse and he looked at it. He would be a fool not to take it -- conisidering what pirates were known for, so he reached over and took it in his hand, tucking it into his pocket. "You'll understand if I don't quite trust you with your claim that there is no other riches to be found here." It was a bit of a bluff. Truth was, he did believe her but he really needed the baby supplies for his daughter. It wasn't something he wanted to advertise however.
He motioned for his men to pick up the trunks of supplies as he kept his eye on the princess. The rumors of her beauty were true . . . but for once, Killian was not thinking any thoughts of perversion. The only female he had on his mind, was his precious daughter. But again, he had to of course play his part. "Are you certain you don't have any other treasures hidden away in that . . . bodice of yours?" He asked, his eyes lingering over her as he smirked. Part of it was a way to divert any thought of looking through the trunks or her trying to prove that it was just baby things. If she did . . . then he would not have an excuse to take them. His men really needed to hurry.

Emma had never come across a pirate before, let alone a whole crew. She was nervous, but she refused to show her fear. It would only make the situation worse. And so, the Princess was rather calm, even when the Pirate told her that he didn't believe she wasn't holding riches in the trunk filled with toys and supplies for Prince Neal. He did, however, take what she had offered him and he quickly pocketed it. "I guess that's a fair enough question, but, really, you can dig through there all you want and not find anything. I love my little brother, but i'm not exactly buying him golden rattles." She placed her hands on her hips, watching him.
He then asked if she had anything else on her..bodice. Ugh. She rolled her eyes and sighed. "Do I look like one of those ladies of the night who shove their coins in their corsets? I'm a Princess.." Okay, she had done that before, but mostly when she was a teenager just for the fun of it - and to keep things safe - but when s he got older it was only purses! "Now, could you please either leave us alone to return to the docks, or dig more for gold or whatever you're going to do? I really do have to get back to the ship to take me home. And.. I'll already have to wait awhile for my guards to wake up.."

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Her assurance only further provided him with relief that her trunks were filled with baby items . . . however, he showed no sign of it. Her response to his next remark about her having hid anything in her bodice . . . well, had he not had differ net priorities, he would have certainly had more fun with this. Hell, he could have even seen this as an opportunity to take her and hold her for ransom. But not right now. It seemed that having a daughter and helped diminish whatever darkness Hook otherwise held. For the most important thing, was taking care of his baby girl and everything else came second. "Word of advice love, don't tell a pirate what to do. For he will be far more inclined to do the opposite." And he would have . . . had things been different.
He gave a bit of a wink and turned to leave when he suddenly heard crying in the distance. He would recognize that sound anywhere: it was Milah. Mere moments after Smee came hurrying toward him, holding the baby in his arms as he panted, clearly out of breath but managed to get a few words out. "Sorry Cap'n! I just . . . can't . . . get . . . her . . . " Hook promptly took the bundle into his arms, cradling her and gently rocking her. "She won't stop cryin' Capn'!" He got out in one quick breath. It didn't smell like she needed a change, so the next thing was . . . hunger. "Tear open the trunks and find me some milk!" He had a feeling though, any milk wasn't going to be in the trunks. It just caused his heart to break, hearing his baby girl cry and not possessing the ability to nurture her the same way a mother could. All he could do was rock her in his arms, trying to ease the crying . . . feeling his heart ache more and more with every sound of distress she made. He had even forgotten the presence of the princess, for he was entirely focused on Milah right now.

It was true, Emma probably should have watched her mouth a bit more when she was in the presence of pirates.. and she was probably lucky that this one didn't seem to want to kill her or hold her for ransom or anything..which..seriously, why was he not doing anything to her? She wasn't calling for help.. she was too curious. But then she heard the sound of a baby crying. The baby was in the arms of a small, portly yet adorable man. He was carrying the baby to the pirate who was raiding her trunks. Suddenly he started shouting for his men to open them. He was looking for something for the baby! He was looking for food.. That's why he was so interested in the trunk.
Emma wasted no time at all. She rushed in to a nearby shop, and asked one of the farmers for a bottle of milk for the screaming child outside. When she couldn't present money - since the pirate had her satchel - she was able to use her status to receive the milk, as well as a promise he'd get paid an abundance when she returned. The farmer's wife agreed to it quicker than the farmer had, as she understood what it was like to have children. Emma thanked the old couple, and rushed back outside. The milk was fresh, and still warm.
"Here," she breathed, panting slightly as she had ran the whole way to the shop and back as fast as she could. "She's hungry.. I'd know that cry anywhere." She'd heard her brother crying enough that she could practically guess what they were about the moment she heard a specific note. And this baby, from what the small gentleman had said, was a little girl... which meant her moods were probably swinging all over the place.

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION By the time the pirate captain recalled the princess's presence, she was fleeing the scene. Well, that was to be expected he supposed, and while it was a loss for she would know what all was in the trunks, he couldn't be bothered to chase her right now. He quickly turned back to his men hurriedly opening the various piece of luggage and thus far, there didn't look like much success. Killian let out a heavy breath of frustration, looking down at the increasingly upset Milah. "Bare with me, love. Please," he whispered, practically begging her. He held her close to his chest, swallowing back the pain of helplessness over not being able to tend to her properly. She squeezed his eyes shut, trying to remain composed as he heard one of his men say that there was no milk here.
"Well then bloody find some!" He snapped angrily. The men just looked at each other and were about to head toward the direction of the shops, when suddenly, the princess returned. Killian looked over at her, noticing she had something in her hand. It was . . . milk! Bloody hell; she had milk! She told him that she recognized that cry as being one due to hunger. He quickly took the milk from her, placing the cover between his teeth as he opened it and then gently began to dip it between Milah's lips.
The child eagerly responded by taking it in. Relief washed over the captain as the crying ceased, and the soothing sound of her drinking filled the air. This would help her for the time being . . . but what about next time? He couldn't keep doing this. He couldn't keep putting Milah through this pain of hunger and not knowing how to fulfill it. Milk wasn't exactly easily stored on a ship and he wasn't about to risk it getting rotten. He softly smiled at his daughter, his thumb gently touching her chin to wipe away the drops of milk and drool. "Where did you get this milk?" He asked her, his voice low, still not looking at the princess as he continued to solely focus on Milah, watching her with soft intent.

Emma sighed in relief as the baby began to swallow the milk. She wondered where the child's mother could have been, but she said nothing. She didn't want to upset the pirate, and she didn't know what buttons were sensitive issues. The pirate had asked her wheres she got the milk, and where she didn't want to lie for the baby's sake, she didn't want trouble to befall the poor farmer and his wife. "It's a shop down the street.. I could get you more." Her eyes went to the baby once more, and then her gaze shifted back to the pirate. "You're going to need a lot. Storage on a ship can be tricky unless you invest in dry ice. It was once said to be cursed, but really it just keeps things cold on long trips."
She wasn't entirely sure if they sold it around here, but she doubted it would be in any of the shops close by. She would need to do some serious searching for something like that. There was plenty of stock of it in her castle, but she wasn't at home and therefore, couldn't help. "I can try finding some for you here, but if some place sells it, you're probably going to only find it in small quantities." She looked over the child, noticing that she wasn't quite a newborn, but she was still quite new to this world. "She may be old enough to eat some of the baby food that I got for my brother.. that way if the milk spoils she'll still have something. I'm sure I don't have to tell you to feel free to take what you need for her from my trunks." Because, as he said, she shouldn't tell a pirate what to do.

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION The princess started telling him about dry ice, offering to get some for him . . . and then furthermore stating that Milah might be old enough to have baby food, which was in her trunks. Killian looked at his daughter for a few moments as the woman's words registered in his mind. "Two of you, go get more milk from the shop down the street. After that find some dried ice." His men were about to set off when Killian thought of something.
"Wait," he stated, reaching into his pocket and pulling out the pouch of coin that he had taken from the princess. He tossed it to them. "I don't want to risk getting any spoiled milk." Who knew what the shop keepers would give pirates who were stealing milk. Best pay for it and get the highest quality of it for his daughter. Killian refused to risk it. "The rest of you, start loading the trunks on the ship." But that wasn't all he was taking with him. "And the princess as well. She's coming with us," he nonchalantly added and without a second glance to her, turned to start heading back to his ship as two men grabbed the princess by her arms, following the Captain's orders.

Emma watched silently as the pirate's crew scrambled off to find the things they were sent to look for - after the Captain had given them the money she had given he had taken from her. At least it was going to an honorable cause instead of to rum or something.. She, actually wasn't really sure what pirates did with all of the gold they stole from people. She could only guess. She had been lost in her thoughts, when suddenly she heard the last of the command he'd given his men. The princess was...going..where now? Suddenly, her arms were caught by two other pirates, who were pulling her aboard the ship. "Wait.. No! Hey! Get off of me!" She wasn't going to let them take her that easily.
The princess, who was wearing stupid heels and a stupid corset fought as hard as she could, but the pirates were too strong and she was too tired. It was futile.. there were way more of them than there were of her, and it wasn't worth it to get herself bruised and bloodied. Well.. they were all taking care of a baby.. maybe they weren't that bad? She shook herself out of her own thoughts to study her surroundings, and found herself on the deck of the ship, being held by the pirates who were awaiting more orders from their captain. "Listen, you guys don't want me.. I'm a Princess. I'm.. spoiled. And..uh.." What..what were normal princesses like? "And high maintenance! You know?"
She wasn't telling the truth. In fact, she was pretty simple for being royalty. Her mother always taught her to never be a spoiled brat, and to appreciate everything and everyone around her. "And I don't know anything about.. the ocean..Also, i get really super annoying and cranky when I don't.. get my way?" Was..that a question or a statement? She didn't know.

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian didn't turn around once to look at her as they made their way to the ship. It wasn't far -- fortunately -- for she seemed rather feisty, and it took more men than he had initially realized to keep a hold of her. Once they arrived, they brought her on deck and immediately prepared for departure, for even they realized that lingering here was not a good idea as they were currently taking the princess as prisoner. Killian continued to hold his daughter close to his chest, and soon enough, the two men he sent came hurrying back with milk and dried ice.
"Put it in my chambers," he informed him. For that was where Milah slept so that he could be near her as much as possible. She had finally drifted to sleep so Killian passed her to Smee as he took the sleeping baby to her crib. He then focused his attentions on the princess as she claimed that she would make a horrible prisoner and got cranky and annoying. "For your sake, I certainly hope not. Otherwise you'll find yourself walking the plank rather than on board my ship." She seemed to know a lot about babies and right now, he needed that.
"Your status means nothing to me," he told her. He could care less if she was a princess, a noble, or a peasant. He took a few steps toward her, now standing directly in front of her. "It is your expertise that I am more interested in," he continued to tell her. "But perhaps you need to be more calm before we can have a discussion. Show her to her quarters," he informed his men. With that, he turned and walked up the few steps, heading to the steering of the ship. She would be taken to the proper guest quarters rather than the cell . . . so long as she cooperated.

Emma watched as the baby was taken to the Captain's chamber's. She suddenly felt nervous. At least while holding the child, she was sure the pirate wouldn't hurt her. But then again..if he wanted to hurt her, he would have done so long ago. Unfortunately.. it was the fact that she knew how to take care of a baby that won her a cruise on this particular ship for..who knew how long. "Look, I..." She started, not really knowing what to say. How could she get out of this position? She needed to go back home. Her father, her mother..they'd be worried about her. And what about her little brother? She had to leave him alone? Suddenly, she really did feel herself getting upset.
He spoke of her calming down before they talked more. Calm? How could she be calm? Inside, she was terrified! She had been captured by a group of pirates! Still though..freaking out and going crazy wasn't the way to stay alive here. She said nothing.. she merely allowed. "Alright," She smoothed down the sleeves of her dress, and she took a deep breath. "I'll go on my own.. just..show me where.." The crew members did exactly that, and then they locked the door behind her. Was that really necessary? Probably, in hindsight. She sat on the edge of the bed, trying to calm herself. Don't cry, Emma. Don't scream. Don't show fear.
It wasn't very long before she heard someone coming in to the room. She had been lying down, staring at the wall of the ship when the Captain had entered. She sat up, and turned to face him. "How is the baby?" Was the first thing that came out of her mouth. She didn't really know why..but that's what her mind automatically went to. "I mean.. so.. what are you going to do with me? You said my expertise but.. I.. I just have a little brother. I don't have any kids of my own.. i'm not...an expert or anything."

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian spent the next little while organizing their newly stolen supplies to see what they had. A great deal of it was helpful, and he managed to locate the baby food that the princess suggested giving to his daughter. When everything was unloaded, he went to check on her once more, as she was sleeping peacefully with Smee in the room. He then went to the other woman on the ship: Princess Emma. Pulling the key out he unlocked the door, closing it behind him but remained standing near it as she asked about the baby, and then questioning what he was going to do to her. He knew that in front of his crew . . . he still had to remain a captain. But privately, he needed to be honest with her. He didn't want any hostility to come upon his daughter, even if it was just by threatening a woman so that she would help him.
"No harm will come to you," he assured her, wanting to start with that so that she at least knew. He fell silent again, his eyes going to the ground pensively as he continued to explain. "She is my daughter." It wouldn't take long for the princess to have confirmation of that, as he imagined she was already quite suspicious. "Her mother . . . " He paused once again, slightly clenching his jaw to hold back the emotion that arose whenever he thought of the sacrifice Milah had made. "She passed." He brought his gaze up to meet the Princess's. He knew that being a father had softened him, but he also knew he had to keep up a front in front of his crew. In front of everyone except perhaps Smee who, apart from Killian, spent the most time with his daughter.
"It is clear that you have an extensive knowledge of caring for a baby." A knowledge that he lacked. He also feared that this wasn't the life for her; being on a ship all the time. Yet, it was the only life he knew. "And, I brought you here so that you could impart this knowledge onto me." Because, he needed to know more about how to give his daughter everything. She had no mother and he knew he had to compensate for that, somehow. "In exchange, I will ensure you return to your home safe, unharmed and untouched." For he knew all those things -- particularly the latter -- were legitimate fears of being aboard a pirate's ship. "I am doing this for my daughter," he added, hoping to appeal to the princess on this level. Asking her not to do it for him, but for his baby girl; an innocent child who did not deserve to suffer because of who he was.

Once Emma was finally finished speaking - she didn't realize how rude she was, talking before he had a chance to say anything - the Captain began to reveal things that she.. was not expecting him to say. He seemed a bit more..softer at the moment, when he was away from his crew. He explained to her that the baby was his daughter, which she wondered..but she wasn't sure. When it was revealed that her mother had passed...and suddenly she could feel her own heart ache. It wasn't a trivial death... she left behind someone who clearly loved her, and a daughter. She remained silent still, while he told her that he would keep her safe, and allow her to go home. He only wanted her help. She'd be a horrible person to deny it.
"I..." She stood up from the bed, taking a couple of steps closer. "I'm sorry to hear about your wife," It was an assumption, but it rolled off the tongue much easier than saying 'your daughter's mother'. "I'm sure she was a wonderful person." But now.. now came the topic of her being on the ship, helping him figure out how to take care of a child. "My brother...I'm very close with him. In fact, it's me who takes care of him when I encourage my parents to have alone time. So.. yes, I do know a bit about babies. And I'd be happy to help you.. so long as you grant me one favor. Please just.. let me write a letter to my family. I can give it to one of your men at the next port we come close to. I just want them to know I'm okay. I'll.." She grinned, suddenly making up a story. "I'll tell them that I met a dashing man, and I decided to run away with him.. embarking on a whirlwind romance. They'd be so proud that i'd have such an adventure." Because they had.
"Thank you.. for being honest with me. I'm Emma, by the way. That way you don't have to keep referring to me as Princess." She rolled her eyes at herself for the show she put on earlier. "I'm not really spoiled or anything like that. My parents would have never raised me that way."

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian remained silent when she expressed her condolences regarding Milah. They sounded rather genuine, but the subject was not one that Killian spoke of with ease, not even in front of Smee or the others. Although, he would tell stories of her to little Milah, so that she may always know how wonderful her mother was. But alas, this was not a conversation he was going to get into with the princess. Instead, he focused on her next words regarding her brother and how close she was to him. She confirmed that she did know quite a bit about babies and that she would help him . . . if he did her a favor. Normally, he would not even consider such a thing, since he often reminded the other that he was the authority and that they should not be asking for favors. But this . . . these circumstances were rather different.
He was well aware of his hypocrisy; stealing one man's daughter to tend to Killian's own. But it had not been enough to cease his actions. It did however, cause him to easily grant her this favor. "Consider it done," he began to tell her. "I give you my word that it will be delivered." He knew that pirates had a reputation of being untrustworthy but as Killian had once been a man of great honor -- and still lived by a certain code -- he did indeed mean what he said when he gave a person his word. Especially in this case. "At least you will be rest assured that they would be proud of that," he said with an ever so slight teasing. She added on that he could call her Emma, and that she really wasn't all that spoiled.
"I know lass," he replied. "I know of you and your parents." He had done his research; he had picked her for specific reasons. He wouldn't have just let anyone this close to his daughter. "It was no accident that I ambushed your carriage in particular." He knew the rumors of her family, what everyone said, how they were kind and gracious. It was what he had relied on bringing her aboard now . . . as well as the fact that everyone knew of her caring relatio nship towrad her brother. He supposed since they were doing introductions . . . it was only polite. "Killian," he stated. "And as Captain of this ship, welcome aboard the Jolly Roger," he said with a slight smirk.
