It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian was oddly nervous, though he showed no sign of it. Things had been going rather well with Emma and him, and Hook truly wanted to take it to the next level. He would not have even entertained this idea had he not thought Emma was ready . . . but he trusted his instincts that revealed to him she was. That his question would not be said in vain. That it would not cause strain to their relationship. Hook had never been married before; even when he was with Milah, they were not married. Perhaps in the future they would have been . . . but fate had something else in store. Yet it now made the idea more exciting, to embark on a journey that neither he and Emma had been on: marriage.
Despite Hook's actions that may indicate otherwise, he did find himself to be fairly traditional . . . which was why he asked David to meet him at the docks. He was going to properly ask him for his daughter's hand in marriage. Now, it hadn't exactly been a smooth ride with her parents . . . which was perfectly understandable. He had been working with Cora against Emma and Mary Margaret, shot their friend, made perverted comments toward Emma and her mother and . . . well, proved to be untrustworthy on making occasions.
But time and experience hopefully showed them how much he loved their daughter, and that he could make her happy, for he loved her more than any other man could. He sat on the bench, looking out at the open waters which always provided him with a sense of calm. Hearing footsteps pulled him out of his thoughts and he rose to his feet, turning to face the approaching co Sheriff. "Thanks for meeting me, mate," he said to him with a bit of a nod.

David had been blind to it. Killians invitation surprised him to no ends. Why would he need to talk to him? At the docks? He sounded so urgent, so serious, it was possible about his beloved daughter. Someone else, though, made the right observations. And then he did feel like he was blind to it all. If the observations were indeed correct. He could not be sure about it, after all. A part of him dreaded it, which caused him to try and delay getting to the docks as much as possible, a part of him though felt happy, giddy even to hear what Hook had to say.
David had turned the thought around in his head over and over again. What would be the pros and cons of this? Should he consent to this? But in the end his decision was easily made. He looked back at what this man endured for their family, what he had done for Emma and Henry specifically and what he had been willing to sacrifice and he knew, with all his heart, this was the man for her, pirate or not. That title would have to go though. At least officially, no, especially officially. It was about damn time and once he realized this could be it, he knew he should have done it way sooner. He grinned at the pirate.
“Good evening Captain Jones. Or should I say Admiral. I am not sure which rank you’re okay with, but I’m sure you earned both over and over again by now.”

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Seeing David smile was indeed a welcome sight, and his tease provided further relief for the pirate. It seemed that he was in a good mood, which was most excellent. His words also surprised him as he raiesd an eyebrow, but couldn't help but give a smile at the tease . . . and sudden promotion. "I'm glad you think so, mate," he said, partly in teasing return but his words held truth. "But Captain will do," he assured him. "Admiral has less of, a piratey ring to it wouldn't you say?" He added on joking. While he knew he would always be a pirate . . . he was most importantly, a reformed one.
Perhaps pirate jokes weren't the best things to make when about to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage. But still, he couldn't resist thet ease and found it helped to ease his nerves a little. "Though if we're talking about promotions, you'd be a king would you not," he continued to say. Yet he always was known as Prince it would seem. Status had never affected the way Killian interacted with others ever since rebelling against the king. The irony: he went against the crown, and now was in love with a princess. "I'm sure you earnd that title over and over again by now as well," he continued to tease, returning the man's words onto himself. Though he supposed that David was far more modest than Killian . . . at least on the surface, for of course Hook's arrogance was all in good fun.

Captain will do, why did he expect exactly that? Oh, probably because he had gotten to know the pirate over time and so his actual humble reaction no longer came as surprise. He learnt over time that his outgoing way, his full of himself attitude was a bit of a mask. Or more like a big mask. It was a surprise to him, but at the very least he knew what it was now. And over the time he had learnt how to handle it – mostly by humoring him.
“Admiral it is, then. It does have a ring to it: Admiral Jones.” Especially if you thought about what possibly lay ahead for them. His brother could be proud of him then. Not only climbing the ranks, but finding true love.
“Oh I was the king back in the Enchanted Forest before the curse. Here that title hardly mattered though. And even then, I am more like the Queens husband, not the king. She is calling the shots.” Which would in a way be similar for Killian, but having gotten to know him, David knew Killian could not only handle it, he’d excel in the role. He’d be her support and her biggest critic, her most trusted knight and most loyal servant. “Even though we are in the modern world right now, the royalty part of this family comes with a bit of tradition, such as the king being the head of the army and navy, you know that, right?”

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian raised a brow hearing him refer to him as Admiral Jones. Perhaps when Killian was in the navy the title would have sounded far more honoring and flattering. But now . . . rank hardly meant anything to him. Though he had to admit, a apart of him was still grateful toward the man for considering him to be worthy of the title. Not because he was a prince -- or king rather -- but because he was the father of the woman Hook loved.
"And yet Captain Hook is far more well known," he countered with a smirk, not being argumentative yet merely playfully joking to dismiss the title of Admiral. He then told him that he was king back in the Enchanted Forest and that the title didn't matter here . . . though he was more so the Queen's husband since she called the shot. It caused the reformed pirate to smile with amusement, for he could understand that perfectly. "Like mother like daughter, ey," he stated. "I can see where Emma gets her, assertiveness from," he added on. Her strength was one of the many reasons he loved her, and he knew it came from both her parents. Strength of character, strength of spirit, strength of heart. He next words caused Hook to look at David with slight curiosity.
Did he know why he had asked to speak to him? He was talking of being the head of the army and navy . . . of being king. It wasn't something that Killian had overly considered. "Well then fortunately the kingdom, should we ever return to it, will have you to lead said army and navy." Because . . . the thought of being a king and leading armies, as not something Killian found particularly appealing. "And the your son to follow." Killian hardly could ever consider himself king. But . . the subject was now broached. "I take it you have some idea as to why I wished to speak with you?" He wondered, curious to know if David was well aware and gently hinting towards it. Well, he had to have, why else mention being king.

He’d get him to accept the title eventually. At the very latest when he would finally exchange vows with Emma – and rings if they found a way to do so, because that would be a bit difficult for him for obvious reasons. Either way, things would change for him quite openly. He was to be the crown princesses husband after all, which brought responsibilities with it. David found he already considered the entire thing settled, even though there was not even the question yet, but they’d be foolish not to marry, they were, obvious to all now, true love. However David was a bit surprised as Killian mentioned Neal following him on the throne. Was he from a kingdom where only male heirs could inherit the throne? Because that was the only way he could explain his assumption. Charming knew better. In fact Neal was only third in line to the throne in his mind, second officially, since they still had to change a set of rules. Neither he nor Snow were happy with how the rules excluded Henry from so much.
“Actually, before Neal ever climbs the throne, Henry will be king. Our kingdom does not dismiss girls as potential rulers, as you can see with Snow. So Emma is the crownprincess, not Neal. She’ll be Queen after Snow. And after her, when we have the rules changed, Henry and then only Neal.” Killian would marry into a royal family, which considered girls just as capable to rule as boys – if not more capable, actually. So far the Queens have really, really made the difference, not the Kings.
“I do have an idea. And if it’s what I think it is, I’m going to tell you now: About damn time!”

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Bloody hell. Killian had been trying to deflect and brush off the notion of being king, yet Charming elaborated the politics of the kingdom. Killian of course was aware of Snow's status, and that Emma would most likely inherit . . . but it wasn't something he had overly thought about when wanting to be with her, or in this case, propose to her. The very idea of being king was . . . well, not something that Killian found particularly desirable.
However, being with Emma was worth everything. Besides, he figured she would be just as overwhelmed being Queen, considering she had lived her entire life in this world as oppose to one of castles, kings, and queens. "Look mate, I'm not exactly king material if you know what I mean. But I am willing to stand by and support Emma, in whatever circumstance she's . . . or we're placed in." His marriage to her had nothing to do with politics -- which he knew was different than some of those in the other realms. And he wasn't about to be overwhelmed by the idea of being king. Emma was a strong, fully capable woman and he would be there to stand by her side.
Besides, who knew if they would even return to the Enchanted Forest, and with Charming and Snow's young age, Killian figured they had more than enough time to work all those details out. He then spoke of how he had an idea of what he wanted to ask him, and spoke of how it was about time. "So, you're alright with this then?" He asked, just to be sure. Though perhaps it would be best if he explicitly stated his reason so that there was no misunderstanding. "You're alright with me asking Emma to be my wife?" He added on, the words sounding rather . . . unfamiliar falling from his tongue for this was the first time he had ever vocalized the idea of being husband and wife. He had thought of it, of course he had, but saying it out loud made it more . . . real.

What Killian just said, unknown to the man, was exactly what made him king material, the willingness to step back and have Emma take the lead. But he had no doubt, come the day, Killian would lead as much as Emma did, providing her with council and criticism and ideas. He would be a great king. After all it was not that different than being a Captain – or Admiral – he just had a few more people to take care of then. He would manage, there was not a single bit of doubt in his mind, that they would work out perfectly as a royal couple.
“I am alright with this, Killian, yes. But I am not the man about whose blessing you should be concerned.” They both knew Emma would do what she wanted no matter what David said. But there was one male in her life, whose blessing really, really counted. David had no doubt about Killian having it, but he would want to insist on him asking Henry first, simply for the matter of: Considering it. It would be good for the matter. And besides Henry would be part of the family, he should have a bit of a say in this. “Henry. My blessing doesn’t really count to Emma. If she wants to marry you, she’ll do so with or without my blessing. But Henrys opinion counts. If he’s against this, you’re basically screwed.”

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Hook felt relief when David confirmed that he was alright with it, but that it wasn't his own blessing that he need be concerned with. Killian knew he wasn't talking about Snow either and soon enough, he voiced the other person that would be greatly affected by this. Henry. Hook was extremely fond of the boy, and he had seemed to accept Hook into his life as a partner for Emma.
But of course, that was incredibly different from being alright with him marrying her and being his step father. "Not screwed," Killian corrected with a faint smile. "I came into Emma's life well after him. He has a right to be wary and perhaps disapproving of this." The last thing Hook ever wanted to do was create tension and a strain between Emma and Henry. "And if that is the case, if the lad is not comfortable with this, then I will not push it." He would not press the issue of marriage, despite how right the timing felt. This wasn't just about him, it was about Emma and her happiness which involved Henry's happiness.
"All I can do it continue to be there for him, and hope that one day, he will change his mind." Hook's gut feeling was that Henry would not be so disapproving, but he also knew that David's words were a possibility. "I love him as I would my own," he explained to him, not wanting there to be any doubt about that. "His blessing is just as important and his feelings regarding this will not be dismissed." He wanted to become a family, because they wanted him as one; not because he pushed his way into their lives against their own level of comfort.

That was exactly what David wanted to hear. He wanted to hear Hook acknowledging Henrys role in all of this, Henrys right to veto and acknowledging that he had ever right to say he was not okay with it. Of course David already knew way better: Henry adored Hook in his own way. He was more of a father than his actual father had been. Hook cared for him. He went all out to protect him, would give his life for Emmas son. He took him sailing, taught him to navigate by stars, he was always available for Henry to call, almost rejoiced when they asked him to take the kids in case of danger. Henry knew he could always turn to Killian, no matter what. David for one knew Henry would be very happy about that wedding.
“Calm down, Killian. Henry adores you. I know he knows you love him like your own. He has witnessed the lengths you went to to protect him, like me. He knows how you’d protect his mum. You’re part of the family in all but name already. Time to make it official, Admiral Jones, don’t you think? I am pretty sure asking Henry, while it’s the right thing to do, will prove to be just as much of a formality as asking me is.”
