He had tried before and before to his surprise Killian had passed every single test Charming had thrown at her. But it was time, at least in his mind. It was time to really question him, from man to man in a quiet environment. Of course Charming knew his daughter called a lot of shots in this relationship, which was another thing he had to talk to Hook about. While he wanted his child to be happy, a big part of her happiness would include his and as such, he had to just talk about it. His wife wouldn’t even get the idea, he feared. For that, he chose to seek Killian out on his ship. He might not be the quest the pirate would want to see on there at the time, but he had to endure him. Once downstairs close to the quarters of the pirate, or former pirate, he knocked.
“I would have asked for permission to come aboard, but you weren’t on deck. I came here to talk to you, H… Killian. About your relationship with my daughter. And before you tell me how old school I am for doing that: Let’s just talk. You want the best for her, but so do I.” He was one of the very first people to hold her in his arms, almost gave his life for his baby and he’d do it again. For her, he’d do anything. Even teach this pirate how to be a prince.

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Killian was ecstatic to have his ship back. While he never regretted trading it for a way to get to Emma, it was rather nice to have the Jolly Roger once again. And he was taking full advantage of it. He had shifted what few belongings he had from Granny's Inn to his ship, his home. Knowing every inch of it, he heard footsteps on deck though was hardly panicked by them. It was most likely Emma. She was going through a difficult time right now and wasn't often comfortable being around her parents with what had come out. Never the less, he would continue to try and convince her otherwise . . . without pushing her. Right now, she just needed a bit of time. As the footsteps descended, Hook found that they sounded too heavy to be hers, and curiosity peaked in the pirate. He then heard a knock at the door and a voice that followed, one he would recognize anywhere.
David told him he would have asked permission and it caused Killian to smile . . . as did his next words inquiring about his intentions. They hadn't really had a proper, sit down talk about that sort of thing. Just fleeting comments here and there. He supposed it was high time to have it now, considering how things were progressing with Emma and himself. Killian opened the door and looked to the father of the woman he loved.
"No worries mate about being old fashioned; you're talking to a man who's centuries old. Though I will say even in all that time, I've never had to have this sort of conversation before." With a father or anything of the sort. He usually just left, not bothering with an explanation. Though that was mostly regarding whatever flings he had with women in the past. Best not go into detail about such encounters . . . that, was not a good discussion to have with Emma's father. "Care to come in. Or would you prefer to go on deck?" Despite the unfamiliarity he was relatively calm and composed to have this conversation with the man. He knew Charming well enough, and was prepared to answer any concerns he had, speaking from his heart.

“Yes, well, as far as I am informed, you never dated a princess either.” It was a fair point, Charming knew it. He had been a damn shepherd, he had been very, very out of his depth. He had to learn protocol, how to lead people – though that came surprisingly easy to him – he had to learn to dance, to be a proper prince and all. And then there was Snow, a woman who was more than happy to allow him his little slip-ups and the same would most likely apply to Killian. Emma grew up without knowing she was a princess. She had a lot to learn about this herself, why would she pressure him? In fact he was probably more familiar with protocol than she was, due to his naval past alone. With a nod Charming came in, looking around. He kept forgetting to look around, but now he saw just little details that almost screamed at him how sentimental this man could be.
“So… what are your intentions with my daughter?” He grinned a little, just to make sure the man knew he was not entirely serious about this question. Of course he wanted to know where Hook thought this was heading, but not in this case. He wanted to know about Henry as well. Basically he just wanted to be sure that his baby girl and his grandson were in good hands with him, though both made it look like they really really were. He was just worried. And in a way, he was worried about this stupid pirate as well.

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION David spoke of how he had never dated a princess before, and well, the man was quite right about that. "Actually, mate, I haven't exactly dated many women at all," he said with a bit of a smirk. He had only ever been in two actual relationships with women where he truly loved them. The first with Milah, the other obviously with Emma. But courting a woman? He had not done anything of the sort.
His relations with any others apart from those two had been short and non committal. He knew on the one hand he shouldn't be telling Emma's father this but on the other . . . he wanted the royal to know that this wasn't something Killian did often. He then directly asked him what his intentions were with his daughter, and Killian did not fail to see the smile on his lips.
It was better than the question being posed in a way that suggested disapproval. This was yet another sign that showed how far they had come. "Nothing but honorable mate," he said with a bit of a smirk, returning the slight tease in his question but also knew that this was not a subject that could be brushed off with tease and humor. David deserved an honest answer. Hook had not yet told Emma that he loved her, not in so many words.
It wasn't that he hadn't felt it . . . he just knew that it would take her time and he would wait for however long it took. So simply saying that he loved her felt inadequate, even if it was genuine. "Do you recall what I said to you in the Enchanted Forest, back when you believed me to be Charles?" When he and Emma had taken on false appearances. He had spoken to David about how he cared for a woman, how he would go to the ends of time for her . . . and humorously, the fact that David had said how her parents could not accept him for how much he cared for her. Ah yes, that conversation seemed far more relevant now than it had then.

Hooks reputation proceeded him in many ways, however at the same time Charming had learnt that this reputation seemed to be quite false on certain levels. Hook had him surprised like that, especially by how he was exactly not that what the rumors about him claimed him to be. Part of them were true, naturally, but not all, especially not those claiming he was ruthless and bloodthirsty. More often than not had he seen him avoid bloodshed if he could, even avoid killing if he could. And then there was the anger issue, for which he could not blame him either. David slowly thought he began to understand him.
“Killian, I didn’t mean to imply you’ve been in many relationship.” Nor did he mean to imply he had anything but honorable intentions with his daughter. If he didn’t, they would not be in a relationsip in the first place. Emma was good at reading people and she held him at arms length for quite a while before letting him. Now they were at the point, where if in doubt her family knew to go to him, knew to trust him to comfort her and be there for her. There was a reason she shied away from him when she obviously wanted to stay angry - she just couldn’t, when she had him around.
“Of course I remember that, Killian. And I know you meant it, you would go to the end of the world for her. You’ve proven that over and over again.” But would she do the same? Was she on the same page already? “And what do you …. Expect from this relationship?”

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION The prince spoke of how he hadn't meant to insinuate that he had been in multiple relationships. "No worries, mate. I know what you meant," he told him sincerely with a bit of a nod. He had only been teasing, but the truth of the matter was . . . the pirate hadn't been in all too many relationships at all. Which was why he knew when a woman was worth fighting for. And Emma, had always been worth it. He then spoke of how he recalled the conversation where he had expressed his willingness to go to the end of the world for her.
"Or time," he added with a continued smile; similar words he had said then. For, he had quite literally gone to another time for her, with her. He was relieved to hear David say that he had proven that over and over again. "And I don't intend to stop," Hook added on. Fact of the matter was that he hadn't necessarily done it for show. He did it from his heart. And whether people noticed or not, that just helped others to accept him. But just because he was with her now, did not mean that he intended to ever stop proving himself, or doing whatever it took to protect her, and care for her. He knew she had not had that in her past, especially with men. And he had no intention of falling into the same category as the others. Whether it be abandonment or death. He was after all, a survivor. He then asked him a question, regarding his expectations from the relationship.
"Nothing that she is unwilling to give me," he answered sincerely. Meaning, he would not pressure her for anything. "I know that she has already taken a rather large step in allowing herself to be with me. Whatever happens between us now, and in the future, will be at her pace." He was not one who wished to overwhelm her, which was why he hadn't told her he loved her yet . . . even though he did, and he was fairly certain she knew it. Hell, he was fairly certain everyone else knew it. But the words remained unspoken until she was ready to take that step. "I don't plan on going anywhere," he added on, the words holding more meaning than one may assume with such a simple statement. But was here for her, to be with her, and he would do everything within his power to make sure she was safe and happy.

He trusted this man, not only with his daughters heart, but with his grandsons as well. Killian had proven over and over again how even when he wasn’t with Emma, Henry was dear to him. He taught him how to sail when he didn’t have to, was even willing to give his life for him, only to be repaid by mistrust, which he now regretted. Hook deserved to be loved, just as much as his daughter. The prince only knew part of his story, but it painted a clear picture of the man. And even now the man was prepared to wait for her, loving her unconditionally. But what if the man himself fell short then? What if his damaged daughter, who had all the right in the world to take things slow and be cautious, forgot to see that her boyfriend wasn’t exactly undamaged either? He deserved care, just as much as Emma did.
“Killian, that honors you, a lot. And I am so glad to hear you want to take this at her pace and not pressure her.” Hell he trusted him to know where Emmas limits were. So far he had even known her better than David could hope for. There was a reason why he helped hoist her into Killians arms when she was freed from the ice wall, because he knew she was safe in those arms and he’d fight heaven and hell to keep her warm and alive.
“But I worry about you as well. I can see you’re willing to wait no matter what, but what about what you want? What about what you need? What if she can’t give you the support you need because she isn’t ready yet? This is a relationship, you are allowed to expect her to show her care for you as much as you care for her. It should be equal.”
