The sight of two people he loved a lot sleeping peacefully finally set his mind at ease. Or they should have. David Nolan found his mind was not at peace at all. He felt relief over how they weren’t harmed. He felt relief to see that his son was whole and safe wrapped up warm and snuggly in his bed, with his mother close by and a sister and nephew to watch over him. But what happened would not let him go. This witch trying to use his courage, or a symbol of it, was one thing. But his son? Why him of all babies? And most importantly what would it have done with the boy. Would it have killed him? He needed to know.
David walked into the station as casually as possible, though he didn’t feel that way. A bit of anger still simmered below the calm surface, one he held down by reminding himself that his son and wife were okay, so were his daughter and grandson. They were alive and well. Still, he busied himself with picking up piles before he approached her.
“So, Zelena.” Finally he spoke. “Do you like your new accommodations? Because you might stay there for a while.”

The cell was not the most comfortable, but it seemed that Storybrooke had a way of letting others feel comfortable despite being in bad situations. Her plan had failed. Zelena felt heartbroken. She had worked so hard and had succeeded in her plan. All she had to do was jump into that portal and she could have altered the past. She could have had her mother keep her. She didn't know what to think what her future could have been like. Perhaps she would have been Queens. Perhaps she would have lived a peasants life, but she would have had a mother who loved her. She didn't know of the possibilities, but the issue with all of this was that the Charmings, and her sister, had ruined her life again. Her sister, she wanted to spit in Regina's face with who much anger she had. Zelena's anger fumed and she sat on the bed, her anger swelling within her.
There was a sound of footsteps coming into the station as she looked up from her thoughts. She could tell it was someone who was upset. There was always a different sound when people walked quickly and angrily into the room. Seeing who had entered made her curl her lips. She may be behind bars, without her pendant, but her words seemed to always do just as much damage, if not more, than her powers. David Nolan, the patriarch of the Charmings entered and seemed to want to talk to her, but took his time coming to her. She was handsome, strong, and his courage was definitely admirable, but that was not the point of this little get together.
Smiling, she crossed her legs and arms and looked to the blond man before her. "Oh, it's simply delightful." she said sarcastically. "But I don't think I'll be in here long. You all will find your verdict soon enough. I'm preparing my last words as you tie me to the stake." she added, turning away from him as she looked to the ceiling.

The stake? Did she honestly think the town would tie her to the stake and burn her like some medieval witch? Like some… well, like they were in the most barbaric kingdom of the Enchanted Forest, where even the most innocent could end up on stakes for being wrongly accused of whatever someone wanted to accuse them of. Did she honestly expect to be killed? By them? At the very least Charming knew his own family would not do it. They had no interest in burning her. They had no interest in killing her. Actually most of them would give her a chance to redeem herself, if she so much as desired it – most of them meaning not exactly him right now. He was a father and she hurt his kids, he was not inclined to forgive her anytime soon.
“The stake is not your fate, Zelena. We’re not going to kill you. You will spend some time behind those bars or in another cell, but we will not sentence you to death.” On top of it, would it not be hypocritical? Some people in this town had once committed bigger crimes, genocide for example, and they were still alive and walking freely. She would have to serve her time, there was no way around it, but a death sentence was out of proportions here.
“Why did you do it? What did you expect to find in the past?” What did she expect to change? He had the general idea of what she wanted, heard it from Snow, but to him it made no sense. To him what se wanted was unobtainable, due to the nature of her mother, of her entire family. Was it really her plan though? How much did Cora know after all?

Zelena knew that they wouldn't burn her at the stake. The other thing that she thought about was that maybe in the back of her mind she prepared for the worst. There was also the fact that she had this knawing in the back of her mind. There was something else that was coming to her. She knew that the Enchanted Forest was not the kind of place where she would get hurt or killed for just being evil. She thought of what she had learned about Regina. If she remembered correctly, Regina was sentenced to death and David was the one who wanted to force it. Snow was the one who saved Regina, not this one here.
Zelena heard his words and she couldn't help but sneer at him. "I find that hard to believe, handsome. There is no way that you would even be able to keep me safe in here either. I have enemies in this town. Not just you all who are staring at me, but there is also the Dark One to think about. I doubt you could save me from him." she replied, smiling.
Zelena stared at Charming and couldn't help but laugh. Really? He didn't know what she wanted in the past? She sighed at the thought that should need to explain it all over again. "I've said this so many times. Why can't you understand this? I wanted to go back to give myself the life I deserved. Despite Regina complaining about our mother, she had one in the first place. A mother who wanted nothing but the best for her. A mother who wanted to make her succeed in life. Now, I had nothing." she explained.

He found it hard to believe that the people he knew and trusted would run in here like a mob and…. Okay maybe they would, but this time they had specific instructions not to do exactly that. Zelena was not to be killed and besides a whole lot of them were still too scared of Regina to go against her wishes. She was safe, at least from them. But then she was right in something: Gold was after her for killing his son. Thankfully the dagger wasn’t in his hands, so she could rest her mind on that one.
“Belle has the dagger. Belle won’t allow him to hurt you, trust me on that.” She wasn’t one for violence in general. She was safe from Gold and his wrath, at least for now. For not the imp couldn’t hurt her. They might find a permanent solution for it, but yes, Gold was a definite problem in all of that, a problem that needed solving desperately. The fact that David could not deny the danger Gold posed was bad, but not surprising to the man. He was selfish, always had been, always would be, probably.
“Zelena, I don’t think that would have been the life you’d have gotten then.” Things would have been very, very different for the redhead than for Regina. “Look what her mothers influence turned Regina into. She killed people Regina cared for. She lived through her. As far as I know, as far as I have experienced, Cora didn’t care much for her kid only for herself and what the kid could give her. What if she woldn’t have been the mother you wanted. Would you have tried to change the past again? Into what?”

Zelena was getting irritated. She was finding David to be naive and somewhat of a moron. Just like his wife where they thought that the world was honorable and that everyone listened to the rules. If that was the case, Zelena wouldn't have broken magical rules in the first place. Just like everything, rules were meant to be broken. But David apparently didn't see it that way. He saw this as an opportunity to do right and that she was protected from the angry mobs of Storybrooke. Honestly, it was not the common folk of Storybrooke she feared. It was the Dark One. She had killed his son. That would not go unpunished. She would have to pay for it sooner or later, and knowing Rumple, it meant that it would be her demise.
The fact that he was naive that the dagger was safe was something she was not happy about. Like all things, there were exceptions around it. Knowing the Dark One there had to be a way for him to get around it. She felt some sort of comfort that his slave had the dagger, but with one quick swipe of stealing it back and she was going to die a horrible death. But she had to hope that he was thinking straight and since that imp wanted to have a good life with that woman, he was going to honor what she wanted. "Perhaps he will cooperate, but you know as well as I that the Dark One does not like to be controlled." she said, and couldn't help but make a small laugh, seeing as she had been controlling him for months.
As David spoke again, the wicked witch rolled her eyes and looked to him as he tried to lecture her again. "You don't know that. You don't know what could have happened for me." she snapped. Hearing what she said, he clearly didn't understand how history worked. "Regina chose that path our of selfishness. And if I had? What would be the issue? It seems I'm already in that place as it is no? And maybe I would have changed the past again, I wouldn't have known it. History changes, and memories change. You all wouldn't have known. Frankly you would have stayed the little farm boy who hoped for love, and maybe married some little peasant girl and had lots of children. Away from the drama of Snow White." she explained, standing and walking close to David so her face was in-between the bars.

“No, of course not, but neither do you.” None of them could see the future, see what changes it would have brought them. But unlike Zelena he had met Cora, he could make an educated guess at how it would have turned out. She rather had Regina at her lowest than to settle for less than her ambitions being met at the fullest, to accept that maybe Reginas needs did not match hers. Still as she spoke, he felt a certain sadness in him. She clung to the idea of a better life.
“I agree, your sister made bad choices, selfish choices, but your mother and others helped them along also. What your idea of the past would have looked like is irrelevant now, is it not, as it did not happen and will not happen. For me? It doesn’t matter. My wife is safe, my kids are safe now, you can send me back to my farm, it’s a great place. I don’t need a crown to be happy, I need the people I care for to be happy in order to be happy myself. You can find that, even here. Your life is not over, Zelena.” Maybe he was too idealistic, had spent too much time with Snow, but she could have what she wanted here, with people who could grow to care for her, maybe even a sister, a love, whatever she wanted.
