Without a heart love was hard, but not impossible. Feeling wasn’t impossible. He was a controlled puppet, Charming knew that, but he still felt. He felt enough to know that even if he had a heart, he’d remain where he was, loyal by the Queens side as her servant. But he knew she’d not appreciate it. She was a puppet and a poor replacement of the love of her life. She’d never love him back and he couldn’t expect it. It was enough for her to trust him – in a way. Or not, because she still only held his heart.
Charming walked slowly towards where he knew her to be. As expected, he bowed before his Queen. As Charming straightened, he offered a smile, more like a grimace though, as he knew it would not be met anyway. “My Queen. Are there any tasks you need done for the day? I am, as always, at your service.” Not that he had a choice to begin with. He had to obey if he wanted to or not. He just happened to want to actually be at her service – at least most of the time. Not many of those dark knights were actually loyal, they just feared her. She had her trusted circle, whom she rightfully trusted, but the low ranks? They were often fuelled by fear, terror and simple… bribing – aka blackmail.
