.:Birthplace:. The Enchanted Forest .:Family:. Baelfire .:Occupation:. The Dark One, Pawn Shop Owner, Landlord .:History:. Rumpelstiltskin was born in the Enchanted Forest. His father was known as the town drunk and a cheater. His father spent long hours in the tavern cheating people in a card game. Unbeknownst to young Rumpel, his father brought him to two spinstresses in an attempt to rid himself of his son. Seeing how sad he was, the two older ladies gave Rumpel a magic bean to take him anywhere his heart desired. Rumpel went to his father to get him to leave with him. His father took the bean and his son and used it to make a portal into Neverland. Once Malcolm learned that he needed to be rid of his son in order to be able to use all the powers of Neverland from the Shadow, he talked the Shadow into taking his son away from Neverland. He was dropped back at the house of the spinstresses, broken hearted, and decided to grow up as a spinster.
He grew up as a normal as a person could in his case. However, he was cursed with the reputation of being the son of the town drunk. Despite this, he managed to get a wife whom he loved very much. One day, he returned home to his wife with wonderful news. He had been called up to join in the Ogre Wars. His wife seemed dismayed by the news at first, but she eventually saw the bright side that he could use this as a chance to get out from under his father's shadow. The day before he was to go into battle, he was asked to guard a wagon with a tarp over it. As he stood guard, a girl's voice spoke to him asking him for water. Once he looked under the tarp, he saw a young girl with scars on her face and eyes on her hands. She was a seer and predicted that his actions would leave his son fatherless. Fearing that she meant that he was going to die on the battlefield, he smashed his foot so he would get sent home. When he got there, he was greeted by the sight of his wife and his beautiful new son. Unfortunately, his actions branded him as the town coward. His wife eventually left him and their son to be with a pirate.
Years later, another Ogre War had started. The local Duke had been forcing teenagers to join the war effort through the use of his guards and the Dark One. Just a few days before his son's birthday, he took his son onto the road. Along the road, he saw a beggar. Not having much himself, he still showed him kindness by giving him a few coins. As he and his son walked down the road, the guards that were taking children from his village appeared on the road. He made a plead to them not to take his son and was forced to kiss the captain's boot to show fealty. The captain kicked him in front of his son and there he laid. His pride most wounded. But the beggar from before came and helped him up. And the two made a deal. Rumpel would give him a roof and food and the beggar would be his benefactor. One night, the beggar told Rumpel a way to save his son. He had to get power. The power of the Dark One. Following the beggar's advice, Rumpel went to the Duke's castle, set it on fire, snuck in, and stole the Dark One's dagger. Once he was in the clear, he summoned the Dark One. And after a conversation, Rumpel stabbed the Dark One. As the Dark One died, he revealed himself to be the beggar. Once he was dead, the power of the Dark One transferred into Rumple. Turning him into the Dark One.
There's much more to tell after that fateful day. But only a few people are privileged to that information. He lost his son, created the curse that the Queen used to curse all of the Enchanted Forest inhabitants and brought them to Storybrooke, and he spent the last two decades living a lie until the product of True Love finally came to Storybrooke. What happens next isn't history. It's the story.
| ~ • ~ | Sample Post | ~ • ~ | Mr. Gold stood behind the counter in his pawn shop and admired at all the stuff he had been able to bring over from the Enchanted Forest. But a quick shot of pain through his ankle brought him back into the present. Leaning his weight down on his cane, he used it to help him walk over to one of the further counters to retrieve a bronze lamp. He put it on top of the glass counter and crouched down to get some of the cleaning supplies. Shooting a spurt of the bronze cleaner onto a soft cloth and started making small circles into the lamp. Where he had started scrubbing, the bronze brightened up to it's original color.
If only he had his power now he wouldn't have to worry about keeping up the facade for her majesty. He could be working on how to get out of Storybrooke and find his son. At this point, he was a little impatient. He had spent decades working on the curse and training Regina to be able to cast it. And now, he was bound by the damn thing. But he had all the time in the world. All he had to do was wait a little bit longer to get the Savior to come to Storybrooke. It would happen sooner or later. All he had to do was let the Queen think that she had won. And put up with her pompous gloating.
"Isn't she going to be surprised?" Rumple thought to himself as he continued cleaning the lamp. He worked the soft cloth in the handle and along the spout. He couldn't wait to see her face. After the savior arrives and the breaks the curse, he would be able to bring magic to Storybrooke. Finally, he'd have his power back and he could put anyone in their place that got to comfortable with him being the pawn shop owner. He might even make a few deals, assuming anyone in this town had something to bargain with. As he finished cleaning the lamp, he heard a the jingle of the bell on his door. As he looked up, a smile came across his face. "Good morning Madame Mayor. What can I do for you?"
