I thought pirates | | only cared about themselves | 'I'd rather fend for myself then be with you. I want off this ship. Pirate!'
Bae had prepared his bags to leave the Jolly Roger, and the lying pirate who was using him, and pretending to care for selfish reasons. Hook was so much like his papa, the one who'd abandoned him because he wanted that dagger over him.
As he looked around the room that he had been staying in while aboard this ship, he picked up the blanket and everything that Hook had given him. He sighed sadly before chucking it all across the room. Yes, this was immature, but, he didn't care.
The one thing he didn't throw away was the picture of his mother that he found, so he placed that in the sack with the few items he owned. He wasn't going to get rid of that anytime soon. It was all he had. "Why did you leave me mum?" Bae said, as he held it close to his chest.
Soon his hands landed on the cutlass that Hook had handed it to him. 'I thought pirates only cared about themselves.' 'You have much to learn boy.' Bae tightened his grip around the cutlass, as his knuckles went white. How long had Hook been pretending to be selfless? Probably from the moment that Bae had told him his name.
Running the cutlass through his hands, Bae's mind kept going back to everything that Hook had told him, and he in turn had told Hook. Bae wondered whether that story Hook told about his father abandoning him was true, or whether he was just creating a story to get him to let it slip about what could kill his father.
Leaving the cutlass on the shelf by the bed, Bae gathered his small sack, including the picture of his mother and made his way back towards the main deck of the ship to be dropped off by Hook away from him, like he'd wished.

Note: proper gif coming soon! It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Things had been going so well. Fate had deemed fit to bring Bae aboard his ship and he loved the young boy. How could he not? He was a part of Milah. He and Milah had often spoken about going to bring Bae with them when he was old enough to join them in this lifestyle. Unfortunately, Rumple had done far more damage than either of them had expected. He had killed the mother of his child. The hypocrisy; for the Crocodile abandoned his son and murdered Milah for doing the same thing.
Hook despised him, hence his vengeful mission to destroy the Dark One . . . but Bae may change that. He found himself caring for the boy, as a father did a son . . . and wished to embrace him and be embraced by him as such. Unfortunately, the discovery of Milah's portrait had changed that. His words still rung clear in Killian's mind. Not to mention the lies that Rumple told Bae about Milah was enough to make Hook's blood boil. He couldn't lose Bae. He wanted to protect him. For Milah. He was on deck, looking off to the vast sea. Pan's men would find him soon enough and Hook was already considering what he could do to most benefit him.
He wanted Bae to stay and he would not stop trying to convince him. He turned when he heard light footsteps, facing the young boy who had his bags packed, and took a few steps toward him. "Are you certain I can not change your mind, young lad?" He asked in a hopeful voice. "Perhaps if you allow me the chance to properly explain . . . we can come to an understanding." Whatever he could do to convince Baelfire to stay with him, he would do. Initially it had been about using Bae as leverage against Rumple, but now, it had formed into much more than that. He saw the boy as Milah's son, rather than Rumple's weakness. And his love for Milah made him want to take care of Baelfire, like his father never had.

I thought pirates | | only cared about themselves | Reaching the top of the deck, Bae looked away and out to the sea as he saw Hook coming towards him. Continuing not to look into his eyes, Bae kept his gaze out and cleared his throat “Just drop me off anywhere.” Bae said, as an answer to his question. He wasn't going to stay here with someone who had done nothing, but, lie to him and use him from the start.
Bae continued to glance out to sea, before finally facing Hook and looking in his eyes. The loss in Bae's own eyes had grown since the revelation of the truth about Hook's history with both of his parents. The twang in Bae's heart had become a lot worse, knowing that he had been unwanted by neither of his parents, since his mother had abandoned him too.
Focusing his attention on the man standing beside him, Bae looked up at him. The pain still on his face from being lied to by the man who he had started to let in, and had become a father type figure to him. A better one then his actual father.
The next part of Hook's speech made him stand there leaning against the top pole of the ship. “Properly explain what? How you were the reason I lost my mother, and knew who I was the whole time I was on this ship?” Bae asked, sighing softly. Bae had had some serious trust issues, of course it was because of when his father broke their deal. He didn't want to risk hearing more of the story with how his mother was happy here, and had been, instead of with him and his papa.

Note: proper gif coming soon! It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Baelfire was once again insistent on being dropped off, anywhere off the ship. These waters were dangerous; Neverland was dangerous. Once Pan got a hold of him, there would be no escape for the young lad. And despite whatever Bae felt for him, Hook felt compelled to protect him. For the boy's sake. For Milah. "It's not safe here in Neverland," he reiterated, aware that he had said these words to the boy before.
"I can protect you here, Bae," he said, still trying to convince him to see reason. He then asked what there was to explain . . . blaming him for the reason for losing his mother and then lying, not telling him that he knew exactly who Bae was. "I was going to tel you," he stated. "I was just waiting for the right time. For I didn't want you to react the way you are now." Angry and defiant. He hadn't wanted to lose Bae's affections from the strong bond they had created this past little while. He had truly come to love the boy as his own.
"Your mother and I fell in love," he began to explain, knowing he had to tell him something in order to help him understand. "I know it is difficult to understand, Bae, but whatever your father has told you about her or I, is untrue." His voice was sincere, desperately trying to urge him to give him a chance; give him the opportunity to really explain what happened. He hated the fact that the Crocodile had spread his poison of lies to Bae's mind. He wanted to remedy that by telling the truth. Not whatever Rumpelstiltskin had told him to paint a better picture and exempt himself of any blame.

I thought pirates | | only cared about themselves | Bae was just standing there as he waited for Hook to drop him off of the boat, so that he could conjure the Shadow again and go back to the Darlings. The only family he had now. As he heard Hook speak, he just stared out in front of him out towards the water and Neverland. "I know, but, I can handle it." Bae said, sighing softly. This may not have been exactly true, but, there was no risk of losing anything anymore. He could defend himself, and find a way back to the world that had begun to feel like home.
"Protect me?" Bae asked, scoffing slightly. The pirate who was using him, was going to 'protect him.' Listening to the sound of the waves against the rocks and the boat, Bae awaited an explanation from Hook. Either that or for him to drop him off like he wanted. "Well, it would've been better for you to tell me straight up. Instead of lying to me and pretending you'd never heard my name before, until I had to find out on my own." Bae may have been hurt still, but, it would've probably gotten a better reaction if he had just told him from the start. Someone actually being honest with him from the word go. Especially someone who he'd felt like a father to him.
Feeling the tears fall from his eyes again as Hook confirmed that his mother had left of his own free will, because she loved this 'pirate'. "Love? So her love for you was stronger then for me?" Bae asked, not really wanting the answer to this question, more just wanting to vent. Mentioning his father made Bae's heart twanged slightly, he was just reminding him of someone else who had lied to him. "My father never mentioned you at all. All he said was that a group of pirates killed her. But, now I realise that everyone I've ever known has lied to me. You're no better then him." Bae said, knowing it may not be exactly true, but, he was angry and from what he'd seen. It was the truth.

Note: proper gif coming soon! It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Baelfire told him that he could handle it and . . . well, Hook knew the boy was capable but at the same time, there were many evils that lurked around these lands. Pan was the most evil of them all and he feared what the creature would do to Baelfire should he get his hands on him. Bae would be trapped in this world for who knows how long, just like all the other lost boys. "There's quite a bit to handle here," he told him in a quiet voice, not overly argumentative but wanting Bae to realize that being here . . . was a dangerous place to be. He then scoffed at the notion of Hook protecting him, stating that he should have told him from the beginning rather than pretend to have never met him before. "Perhaps I should have," he admitted, not wanting Baelfire to have found out about him and Milah in this way and willing to admit that his secrecy may not have been the best course of action to take.
"But I also feared you woudln't allow me the chance to get to know you." His words were genuine, wanting to express just how much the boy meant to him. "Had I told you straight away, there was the risk of you wishing to leave immediately. I didn't want that to happen," he told him. This was Milah's son after all and Hook saw him more as that than his enemy's weakness. Why? Because Killian's love for Milah was stronger than his hate for Rumpelstiltskin. "I know now that it was not the best way to earn your trust, but I am hoping you will grant me a second chance, to do this the right way." To be honest with him, and answer whatever questions he may have . . . even if the truth involved explaining that it was his father who had killed Milah. He then rhetorically stated -- or questioned -- that Milah's love for Hook was stronger than her love for Bae. And well, Hook knew that wasn't entirely true, despite how her actions may have made it look.
"No," he told him, uncaring if the question was not meant to be responded to. "Her love for you was stronger than anything else. Her heart was never whole without you Bae. Which was why we intended to come back for you. She wanted a better life for you, but needed to make sure there was a chance for such a life, before she brought you into it." A pirate's life was no simple or easy one. Besides, they hadn't exactly know they would fall so deeply in love wtih one another. And with that love, had come his promise to go back for Bae; to find a way for them to all be together. And happy. That was the most important thing of all. Baelfire then answered his question, stating that his father had told him it was a group of pirates that had killed Milah. Rumpelstiltskin was a bloody coward! How convenient for him to blame Hook for Milah's death.
"Your father lied to you Baelfire," he told him. Hook refused to believe he was anything like the crocodile. After all, he had not been the one who had killed the mother of his child. "And I know that I did to, but my intentions for doing so were drastically different than his." He wanted Bae to understand why he had done it . . . why he had withheld the truth. "It was not a group of pirates who killed your mother. For I was there when she died." He knew he would have to see if Baelfire believed him before he went on to explain more of that devastating day. It was forever burned into Hook's mind; a memory that haunted him every single night.

I thought pirates | | only cared about themselves | Bae knew that if he could handle his papa then he could handle anything that he encountered out there. Besides he didn't want to stay with someone who lied to him, and, it wasn't like he had anything to lose anymore. He didn't know what to expect on the island, but, it couldn't be any worse then his papa and what he'd seen him do back in the Forest. This Pan couldn't really be that bad could he? Especially if he had to make other people do his work for him. Besides he was already trapped in this world Neverland with no way off thanks to that Shadow, so it's not like he could leave anyway. "It's nothing new for me having alot to handle." Bae responded as he continued to refuse to look at Hook, instead glancing out to the sea. Dangers for him were nothing new, but, he still wasn't quite sure what to expect on the island of Neverland and how it would be different to here on the Jolly Roger. But, he didn't care, because Hook was just like his father. Selfish and putting on an act to serve his purposes. "You definitely should have"
"Well, I guess we'll never know will we?" Bae asked, knowing that this may have been true. "I wouldn't have done that. Well, I may have wanted to, but, I wouldn't have reacted the way you assumed I would." Bae would have been angry, but, he would've realised that Hook was his one connection to his mother, but, now he had nothing but pain inside of being lied to or hurt by someone else he let himself get close to. Plus the added pain of his mother abandoning him too. Bae now knew that Hook was seeing him as his papa's biggest weakness, and, always had. Which made him just a pawn, an object to trade. "I don't think it's that easy to re-do or rebuild trust. How am I supposed to believe any of that? If I gave you a second chance, what would you change? How would it be different?" Bae just wanted one person in his life to be completely honest with him, and, not answering questions in vague ways to allow his feelings to be spared. He had always thought his papa was that person, but, now he knows that his papa constantly lied to him. From the sounds of it, his mother had never really loved him at all. She must've if she could leave him so easily. For a life with this... pirate.
Finally glancing at the pirate when he said no to his comment about his mother loving him more then her own son, and, he wondered how this wasn't true. "So, she loved me enough to abandon me. How is that supposed to make me feel better? She wanted to come back for me but never did. She had what... like 5 years to figure out whether this would be a better life for me. She also had that much time to come and find me." Bae choked back the sob that got caught in his throat, at the ending of these words to Hook. No matter how much he tried to spin it, his mother had abandoned him, even though she had years to do all that figuring out, and, to come back for him. If Hook was right and they fell in love, then how was it right that the love for him was stronger? None of this made any sense to him, and, how was he supposed to know that he would've been collected by his mother? She left when he was 9, he was now 14. That gave her a few years to figure it out. And he was told she had been killed, a year later. Bae hadn't minded that reasoning, but, now he learnt that she hadn't been dead, at least not before abandoning him first.
"What do you mean?" Bae asked, wondering what exactly he'd lied to him about. But, Bae raised his eyebrows in a way to imply that his papa wasn't the only one. "I don't really care whether the intentions were different, you still lied to me. And what intentions could you have had for lying to me that could possibly make me feel better?" Bae had to know why, why he had lied to him. Especially if he cared so much about him as he is trying to convince him he was. Hearing him say he was there the day she died, Bae raised his eyebrows before turning towards him rather then the sea, keeping his grip on the ropes above his head. "Well, then why don't you tell me what really happened that day then." Bae needed to hear the story before he decided whether he believed any of it. He just wasn't sure what to believe anymore. Especially not right now.

Note: proper gif coming soon! It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Hook was not one to beg or grovel for forgiveness. So he knew that if this conversation did not progress, if Baelfire was still defiant, then he would have no choice but to let him go. He certainly wasn't going to force the boy to stay on his ship with him. The boy assured him that he wouldn't have done that; that he would have reacted differently than what Hook assumed. "It's easy to say that now," he began to tell him.
"But I doubt you would have been as receptive had I told you the truth in the beginning." It was easy to assume otherwise when one decided to take another route. But that was the past and nothing could be done to change it. "Trust is to be earned," he agreed. "And it does take time. But that is a chance you have to be willing to take." A second chance that is. He then spoke of Milah, of how she loved him enough to abandon him . . . of how she never came back for him. "She hadn't the chance," Hook continued, the thought of her death so prominant in his mind. "She had to wait until you were older, and then she and I had every intention of coming for you. But she passed before we were able to do so." And then Hook had become consumed with claiming vengeance on the demon who took her life.
He then questioned that nagging truth that could change so much. Baelfire questioned his intentions for lying to him . . . and then demanded he tell him what happened that day. Hook had been hesitant before, but now with the boy's clear disapproval for lies, perhaps it was time for the brutal truth. "You say that others have lied to you your entire life, well then allow me to be painfully honest with you." His tone was not harsh, but it was strong. "I did not wish to tell you this in attempt to protect you and whatever memory you have of your father, but if you prefer brutal honesty than lies . . . well, you seem grown enough to now know." He was forcing back the anger he felt for Rumple, knowing it would not help matters.
"Your father found your mother and I," he began to tell him. "We attempted to strike a deal so that we would let us be, however his jealousy and anger took over and . . . " Hook paused, swallowing back the emotion as he recalled that haunting sight of Milah's heart being crushed before his eyes, helpless to do anything to help. "He ripped your mother's heart out, and crushed it in the palm of his hand." There. The truth. The cold, brutal honest truth. He would let that sink in before he continued on about anything else, for he was all too aware taht it was quite a bit to take in.

I thought pirates | | only cared about themselves | Bae wasn't one to rule people out, but, after what happened with his father, he wasn't quite sure how he could trust anyone else who lied to him after he let them get close. He knew he didn't have anywhere else to go, but, he wasn't sure he could stay here with this pirate. Bae knew in his heart he was better off alone, but, he also knew that he may not be able to resist the tempation of Pan a second time. He wouldn't have done what Hook assumed he would. He wasn't that kind of person to judge someone straight away. Whether they were bad or not.
“When someone's honest with me, I don't exactly turn them away. It's the fact that the lies were added on top of everything else. If there was honesty, but, still darkness inside. That I could've probably gotten past.” Bae knew that it is the same thing as with his father. Bae had been able to look past the dark sorceror he'd become, because he had loved him. But, the combination of the abandonment and the realisation of all the lies had been what made the way he felt about him change. “Yeah, and once you lose it. It's hard to get it back. Whether I want to take the chance is something I'm not sure of right now.” Bae was already fragile after what happened with his father, and, now learning about Hook and his mother abandoning him. When the conversation came to his mother, Bae sighed softly as he waited to hear what Hook was going to say in response this time. “What do you mean she hadn't the chance?” Bae asked. From what his papa had told him, his mother had left when he was nine, because that's what he was told that day. “How much older is older? From what my father said, she 'died' when I was nine. How am I supposed to believe that?” Bae asked, letting the tears continue to fall from his eyes. The strong wind from the Neverland sky made them sting in his eyes.
Bae was becoming insistant to know the intentions for why he lied, and, also to know what happened to his mother. It may help realise things, or it may make things worse. He wasn't sure which. Bae admittedly didn't care, he just wanted the truth from one adult in his life. No matter how much it hurt, no more lying to spare his feelings. Bae wasn't a kid anymore, he could handle it. At his next words Bae nodded “Yes people have lied to me before. I'm ready for it, I just want complete honesty, painful or not.” Bae said, as he spoke to Hook. Speaking his inner thoughts out loud to the pirate. “That's the kind of thing I'm sick of. People lying to me because they think it's too painful for me to know or to protect me. I'm not a kid anymore. We never know if I can handle it, if no-one tells me anything. Yeah, of course I'm old enough to know.”
Bae braced himself for the story, the one that his papa hadn't told him, and, the one that Hook thought he couldn't handle straight away. The fact that it started with his father, Bae now knew just how much his papa had lied to him. He knew that his papa was an angry man, but, he never thought his papa was a monster. No matter what he'd seen back in the Forest.
The last part about his papa crushing her heart made Bae's world stop still, and, he couldn't say anything. Bae felt his heart beat in his ears, and, his legs struggled to keep him upright. He let out a soft sound of shock, as his legs gave way and he fell to his knees to the deck of the Jolly Roger as he felt the tears escaping his eyes again.

It's Always Nice TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION Baelfire seemed certain that he would have been able to look past the truth had Hook expressed it to him earlier, yet the pirate still had his doubts about that. But alas, it was not the most important subject of their conversation right now. Baelfire questioned how much older he had to have been for them to bring him aboard. "It would not have been long," Hook assured him.
Why? Because Milah had been pregnant at the time of her death. And they were hoping to go back for Baelfire so that they could all be one family. Yet this revelation was not something he had told anyone as of yet, and would have to see how Baelfire reacted to the news of his father's murderous actions before deciding whether now was the time to tell him or not. Whether it was relevant or would only cause him more pain.
Hook watched the boy fall to his knees as the tears streamed from his eyes. The pirate remained silent, watching him, expecting this reaction from him. For what it also revealed was that Baelfire believed him. That he knew, in the depth of his heart, that his father had indeed killed his mother. He knew that words were unneeded right now, for what Baelfire really needed to do was the express the emotions he held in his heart, and here was his outlet of doing that.
Eventually, after several moments passed, Hook crouched down in front of the boy, putting a hand on his back. "Don't you see, Baelfire," he began to say. "Your father is not the man he claims to be. He killed your mother for seemingly abandoning you, yet did the same to you." The Crocodile was a bloody hypocrite. "I can assure you, I will not abandon you like he did. But you need to make your decision." Whether he would rather stay with him here, or venture out on his own -- which, would mean that it would only be a matter of time before Baelfire was at Pan's mercy.

I THOUGHT PIRATES ONLY CARED ABOUT THEMSELVES. YOU HAVE MUCH TO LEARN BOY Bae knew that it could be easy to trust someone, as long as they told him the truth from the start. It was the thing that started to rip apart him and his father. The trust issues between him and his father were unimportant and irrelevant now, this was about him and this pirate. His question about how much older he'd have to be was one he awaited an answer for. "Really?" Bae asked, waiting for a confirmation.
He didn't know whether he wanted an answer to that question. The one thing Bae wanted was a family of his own, he had had the Darlings, but, he was always just going to have been an add-on to their family. Bae had seen them as family, and, would've always been. But, there would've always been that feeling in the back of his mind like something was missing from his life. It had always just been him and his papa for as long as he could remember. That was what his family was, and, the family he wanted back.
His walls had broken down completely as he collapsed to the ground, feeling his heart break all over again. His father had been the one to take his mother away from him. On some level this pirate had started the whole thing, but, his papa had been the one to take her away for good. Now he never even knew if his mother actually was going to come back for him, if he was good enough for her. To come back for him, giving him a chance at a real family. Bae felt the tears escaping his eyes, as he broke down completely, the walls making him completely vulnerable for the first time since being abandoned.
Bae looked up as he felt Hook's hand on his back. He slowly felt himself calming down, but, he sniffled softly. "I think I've realised that he isn't who he claimed to be. But, he had been once." Bae said, softly. Looking up at Hook, Bae tilted his head "Really? Because my father made that same promise once. How can I know that you never would. And that you'd never hand me over to Pan and his lost boys if the situation arose, to choose between yourself and me?" Bae had to be sure that this time he actually wouldn't be abandoned, and, that when a family promise is made, it would be kept. template by Margie @ Adoxography 2.0
