Puss In Boots / The Boot Cat / The Masters Cat| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:.
As a human Puss has what many would call a fencers build meaning his limbs are long and his figure lean with very little fat. His ginger hair is kept slightly long with a set of perceptive green eyes to compliment his light complexion. True to his heritage he has an inclination to wear boots of various type when 'his' boots are unavailable. Clothing is a particular thing for Puss for while being human he enjoys finding clothes that are comfortable but still have a sense of daring or anything that will accentuate his roguish nature (including cavalier hats when he can come by them). As a cat Puss is a mostly orange tom cat with accents of white and cream around his lips, eyebrows, and down his neck and stomach.

Five Foot Nine Inches

.:Personality:.
The first thing people associate with Puss is his sense of charisma. He has a compelling charm that draws others to him. Be it his persuasive nature, his wit, his ability to seduce the ladies, or just his soulful eyes routine Puss is able to quickly earn peoples trust and get them to do what he wants (or at least to underestimate him and or not kill him). The young cat is also ambitious and can never rest on his laurels. Whatever great achievement he has made he must surpass it in a given time. “I have decided simply to excel at everything” is Puss eventual goal. This sense of self satisfaction can be a blessing and a curse though as Puss has a hard time coming to grips with things he does well… but in truth is terrible at. He’s not a very good cook, he’s terrible at riddles, and can be very melodramatic. Puss is unafraid to run head first into a fray or take on any challenge, this is in part because of his sense of self satisfaction. Puss is proud of whom he is, his skills, and his heritage. He carries all of these things as a badge that separates him from others. In his spare time Puss enjoys the simple joys of Napping, Dancing, Wooing women, Getting attention, Being pet, Being fed, and most of all Adventuring.
.:Strengths:.
Quick Wit: Call it Street Smarts or a Cleverness of Mind, Puss is an incredible fluid thinker. This helps him to recognize patterns, understand abstract reasoning, along with problem-solving. He lives by the motto to “Work Smarter not Harder” and has embraced outsmarting his enemies. Also he has mastered the fine art of manipulation and is capable of tricking others and weaving believable lies.
Swordsmanship: Following in the traditions of nobles, Puss picked up the necessary skills by training in the pentathlon (Marksmanship, Horseback Riding, Swimming, Fencing, and Long Distance Running). The fencing classes were the most fun for Puss due to its connection to a more romantic sort of fable. Making time for extra classes here or there allowed for Puss to become proficient with the weapon rather quickly. While he has not devoted himself as much as other sword masters he is usually able to hold his own long enough to come up with a better solution for how to win or escape to fight again. While able to fight in a linear two dimensional style (ala traditional duels) Puss prefer to combine his strengths into his fighting styles. He likes to incorporate his training along with his body’s natural capacity for limber maneuvers, enhanced agility, and ability to change size in order to make use of almost the entire battlefield and attack from almost every direction. Use of his clever nature he is not above using the terrain and unconventional surroundings, items, or circumstances to his advantage however he can.
Acute Senses: Puss possesses acute senses of sight, hearing, and smell comparable to those of other felines. He is capable of seeing with greater clarity and at greater distances than an ordinary human (up to 120 feet away) and his vertically slit pupils allow for 285 degree peripheral vision while retaining this same clarity even in near-total darkness. His hearing is enhanced similarly, enabling him to both hear sounds that ordinary humans can't (up to 65 kHz) and to hear at much greater distances. He is able to use his highly developed sense of smell to track a target by scent, is able to detect the slight chemical changes in different brands of deodorants, along with subtle alterations in perspiration that reflect mood or emotions. This enhanced sense of smell does leave him highly sensitive to pheromones.
Illusion Awareness: “No cat out of its first fur can ever be deceived by appearances. Unlike human beings, who enjoy them.” Puss is able to see through Illusions and some limited transformations to see creatures for what they really are. This does not make him a perfect judge of character and does not mean that he can see invisibility but he can see auras possessed by others and with enough personal knowledge can define them.
.:Weaknesses:.
Cat Like Tendencies: Being a cat does come with its set of behavioral triggers. Though Puss tries to control himself it is still easy for him to end up being distracted by something as simple as a laser dot, fish, or a dangling bit of string. Even in his human shape he has been known to make a purring noise, pick (or claw) at things and has even rubbed up against someone a time or two.
Commitment Issues: Given Puss nature for being promiscuous it has made things difficult for him to ever commit himself to any one female. This also causes him to be rather detached from some of the women he encounters (and has been known to ruin a friendship or two). While he will speak what he knows they want to hear it is difficult for Puss to ever give himself over completely to a relationship. His claim is that being bound to just one person could never be as fun as being a swinger but in truth it goes much deeper. Puss feels if he were to ever be married his adventuring would come to an end and that he would lose his individuality and make a horrible father figure. After all how could someone be a good husband and father if they were unhappy?
Impulsive: Puss can get bored if he stays in one place too long and that can cause him to make sporadic decisions just in an effort to "make things interesting". He likes to experience everything the world has to offer but this spontaneity can lead to trouble because it can attribute to bad decision making without planning.
Overconfident: Because of his capacity at weaving false stories and because of his confidence in himself Puss has a habit of falling short in always making good decisions. He is driven by emotion and the thrill of adventure. Sometimes his Intrapersonal Intelligence makes it hard for him to accept or even realize when he may be in way over his head.
Riddles: Even though Puss is a great fluid thinker he does have one mental area he has a hard time wrapping his head around... Puss is terrible at riddles. He was once heard to answer "yellow" to the sphinx riddle and "fudge" to the question "What has a head and tail but no legs".| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |

.:History:.
BEFORE THE FIRS T CURSE
In the enchanted forest there exists all manner of flora and fauna. Magical animals like Fairies, Chimera, and Werewolves were not uncommon. Among these species was one of intelligent cats known as Cat Sith. These cats most typically kept to themselves but some did go and live among the humans, typically keeping their intelligence a closely guarded secret. Puss was born to a young couple of Cat Sith, his father was Cat Morgan, a retired pirating cat who now spent his days loitering about town and acting as a sort of guard against the supernatural for the towns people. His mother was Silabub, a sweet young cat who was said that when the moon was full could have visions of the future. On November 30th Puss was brought into the world and given the name of Áedán a name that meant fire, and aptly too since he had such bright ginger fur. As most are unaware it is traditional for cats to possess a total of three different names but that shall have to be revealed at a later time.
Áedán grew up happily with his family, he loved to hear his father tell of adventures in the past and his mother always taught him the most courtly of behavior. The family happiness wouldn’t go on forever though and eventually Áedán felt a yearning to explore the world and see things that even his mother and father had not. Bidding his parents a fond farewell Áedán started his journey into the forest. Through his travels he did his best to hide his identity and stay under the guise of being a normal cat this sometimes made getting food and shelter a problem when a local home wasn’t looking to take care of a cat for a day or two. In traveling the world Puss came across a hidden city by the name of San Lorenzo. Once inside the city he was quickly adopted by a local crazed wizard and local macrame enthusiast Artephius. The old man was lonely and not visited by very many because of his eccentric nature. Though a little crazy to say the least, the man was kind and took care of Áedán, giving him food and home and frequently talking to the cat. As time rolled by the old man revealed in the privacy of his own home that he was once a powerful alchemist. Desiring to be able to understand Áedán and to be able to have a real conversation with the cat inspired Artephius to create a spell that he cast upon Puss and giving the cat the gift of speech. Puss was grateful for the gift and in return he offered to protect Artephius and to be his friend.
Puss stayed for quite some time in the town and though he had become friends with the town inhabitants he was soon yearning again to travel the world. Artephius understood that Puss would need to and told the cat they would meet again. Áedán thanked his friend before setting out to slate his wander lust. One journey brought Áedán into the neighborhood of a mill that was owned by a miller whom had just passed away. Listening in as the last will was recited to the Millers three sons the cat was surprised at what he heard. The eldest stood to inherit the mill, the second inherited the hard laboring donkey and the youngest son only stood to inherit five paltry pieces of copper. Áedán took pity on the boy and once he was separate from his siblings the cat revealed his ability to talk to the boy.
At first the millers son was more than a little disturbed but Áedán assured him that it would be wise to listen to what he had to offer. As the young man had spent most of his life working with his family he knew little about the outside world and due to being fairly young he had little in the way of raw strength. The cat promised that should the millers son listen to him he could help him to find his way in the world. The boy begrudgingly agreed and the two began their journey, it was during this time that the boy asked what he should call Áedán and given that the name seemed so stuffy he took the nickname of Puss, an unimaginative but appropriate name for the cat. When the cat and millers son reached town, Puss had his master buy for him a pair of fine leather boots. It was when he put the boots on Puss had an unexpected result befall him. When he put the Boots on he felt his inherited magic from his parents, and something a little special left over by way of Artephius spell that the cat found himself in the shape of a human while wearing the boots. After some practice the cat figured out that while wearing an article of human clothing he could shift his shape between human and feline. Thus began the fable of Puss In Boots, where the cat was able to get his master into a position of authority as the Marquis of Carabas through acts of cunning. This rise in the social ranks did not come without cost though. In securing the land and estate for his young master Puss had tricked and murdered a powerful sorcerer to obtain his lands. It was during this time that the cat coined a new motto for himself “Fortitudo, Scientia et Amor.” (Courage, Knowledge, and Love) For through these you could accomplish anything you put your mind to.
Puss spent a little while in the castle he had earned his master but the thrill of adventure was still in the cats nose and so he soon set off on his next great adventure. Puss had many exciting encounters during his journeys while he acted as a sort of monster slayer, mercenary, treasure hunter, and rogue for hire. During the Ogre Wars Puss was often employed to protect small towns that were under attack. It was typically an easy victory for the cat who was beginning to learn the strengths and weaknesses of Ogre biology and how he could use his small size to better fight them. There was one unusual case though when he came across an Ogre who didn’t even want to be involved in the war and had an obsession with just trying to live alone in the corner of a swamp… There was a rather loud talking donkey as well but Puss tries to block that part out of his memory. When the curse struck the Enchanted Forest so suddenly, Puss found himself swept away and brought to the modern world.
AFTER THE FIRST CURSE
Puss had lost his animal body and his treasured boots when the curse ripped away everyone’s identities. Here in Storybrooke he was Tharon Perrault, the local exterminator. While the job was for the most part mediocre, Tharon found himself spending his idle time trying to flirt with the ladies of Storybrooke. It was interesting to see how everything did seem rather hollow, even some relationships that otherwise felt like they should have had a spark. Tharon could never explain it but it was like looking at everything through a fog. You knew things were supposed to be clearer but no matter how much you waved your arms there was no way to disperse the mental haze. That was until Emma broke the curse and restored everyone’s memories. Tharon regained his identity as Puss and was quick to track down his old boots. While many in Storybrooke were trying to find their friends and families, Puss was doing the same in trying to find his mother, father, and his old friend the Millers son, heck even those he had encountered on his journey through the enchanted world. Discovering that not all were present caused Puss to begin trying to formulate a plan for getting back to the enchanted forest but this too has been met with a conflict of interest. This new world has some things that the cat enjoys, but he also knows that some of the things he misses are in the past. He can’t wield a sword and fight off Ogres here in Storybrooke and the cat is beginning to grow worried he might get fat should he sit around for too long. Puss is now venturing to try and find the Seven League Boots, shoes able to take their user on far distances almost instantly.| ~ • ~ | Sample Post | ~ • ~ |
Glancing around at the ground gave Puss just the information he was looking for. Mindfully laying flat on his stomach he could see the faintest of outlines where several of his quarry had slipped underneath the bushes to stay out of sight. His smile broadened and his tail twitched with delight before he stood up strait again. Pacing himself over to beneath a tree he placed down the bag that hung over his shoulder. Removing a thin rope he affixed the length through the rim of the bag and tossed it up over a hanging tree branch. All that was left now was the bait. Reaching into the pouch that hung of his belt he retrieved several handfuls of grain and sprinkled it out among the ground and deposited quite a bit into the bag.
Once he was confident in his snare he took to climbing up the tree and stopped at the tree limb where he had tossed up the rope. Gathering it around his fore arm he got comfy by leaning his back against the trunk of the tree while allowing his legs to kick up into a recline on another tree branch. The cat was content with his current hiding spot and the view from up here was delightful. Looking out across the forest canopy he could see the little town in the distance that was waiting for him. He had promised the local inn keeper to return with a batch of quail in exchange for lodgings for the night. Quail were hard to catch and the cat knew that most humans had a silly tendency to send hunting dogs to flush them out. Why go through so much trouble just for one little quail? Why even if the hunter was quick and accurate at best he might only get two of the birds per bush and even then the dogs and hunter would scare away more than they would catch.
The cat tapped his boot against his thigh in idle thought, the inn keeper did also have in his company a most beautiful daughter, the cat certainly wouldn’t mind growing a bit more familiar with her. He was certain that should he have needed to, the young maid would have let him sneak in during the night… An exciting proposition but the cat felt it would do better to keep some symbols of proper decorum. He would bring the Inn Keeper a bag of quail and secure himself a place to stay any time he returned to this village.
Looking down he saw that his trap was working and that several of the plump birds were pecking about at the entrance of the bag, hopping inside he waited until several were in his clutched before yanking up on the rope and sealing the bag shut. Giving a laugh of amusement with him-self the cat hopped down from the tree and slung the bag over his shoulder. It was time for this cat to go and enjoy his well earned meal.
