It all happened so fast. Graham dropped to his knees, trying to explain something to her. He'd told her he didn't have a heart, and she thought he was crazy. Whether he was, or he wasn't, clearly he had a heart because this looked like a heart attack to her. She didn't have time to call an ambulance..wait.. Was there an ambulance in this insane town?! So she rushed Graham to the hospital on her own. Now it was just a waiting game. And...it felt like forever. She was pacing the floor in Storybrooke Hospital, waiting for news. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of her life.
She spotted a few nurses walking back and forth, but it was like they had no clue what was happening. "Nurse, excuse me, nurse?" She scoffed when they told her they were sorry, and she'd have to wait to speak to the doctor. Seriously.. was there only one doctor here?! And what was taking so long? She had no idea if Graham was safe. Finally...after a too long wait..she was able to speak with Whale. It turned out, there was a reason for all of the tests they had to run.
"What...what do you mean he has no heart?" Emma asked, staring blankly at the Doctor. "You mean... there's...he has... but he just..What are you even trying to say here?"

The news was not easy to deliver. Not because he was informing a family member that their loved one hadn't made it. It was because he logically could not explain the circumstances. The Sheriff had been brought in for a presumed heart attack. Only when Whale tended to him, he quickly discovered the impossibility of this? Why? Because the man didn't have a heart. He, literally did not have a heart. It left the doctor perplexed and confused, not liking the fact that he couldn't explain it. He had just informed the deputy, Emma, and she was just as shocked as he had been. "I can't explain it," he answered. "It makes no sense. It's impossible. But . . . it's not in his chest, I'm sure of it." Victor kept his voice down, not wanting others to hear about this.
"I haven't told him yet. I just got him stabilized and I don't want to do anything that will increase his . . . " Heart rate. But, he didn't have a heart! "Stress." He supposed he'd have to go with that substitute. "Ms Swan," he continued. "I haven't told anyone about this, and I think we should keep it that way. The town doesn't need to know that there's a man roaming around without a heart. Not until I have a logical explanation of how this is possible." He didn't like not knowing. He was determined to get to the bottom of this, no matter what that entailed. "You can see him now if you want," he added on with a bit of a nod, hoping she was in agreement that they wouldn't spread news of this medical impossibility.

Emma knew she was just staring blankly at Doctor Whale. Obviously he was a completely capable doctor if he was the only one in Storybrooke and everyone seemed healthy.. So how could he miss someone having a heart of all things? Graham had told her that he didn't have one, and she obviously didn't believe him. But here it was.. medical proof that his heart - the thing that gave him life - wasn't in it's place in the chest cavity. In fact.. it was nowhere. "Right.." Emma heard Whale telling her that he'd like to keep it between them.. and that he hadn't yet told Graham. It was all probably for the best.. At least until she figured out what the hell was going on here. "No, I won't tell anyone. Think they'd even believe me if I did?" It was more of a rhetorical question..but yes, she was still relatively new in town, and the people of Storybrooke were more likely to believe she was insane.
She knew she thought that about Graham, at least.
Whale told her she could see him when she wanted to.. and she nodded. "Thanks, Doc." She breathed, giving him a look of reassurance that she wasn't going to tell a soul. Graham, however, already knew.. so there wasn't really a secret to keep from him, now was there? She walked in to his room, and looked him over. This place was weird..but this was definitely a kicker. "I..." She started, not really entirely sure what to say. "How are you feeling?" Is what she decided on for now.
