From the moment that Emma met Lily, she knew that the two of them would be best friends for the rest of their lives. It had taken until the last time had seen Lily, right before she was about to go camping with her newest foster family, that Emma knew it was time to run away with her. No one trusted Emma..she was a foster kid. Why would they? And no one trusted Lily, either. In her heart.. Emma knew that the two of them needed each other. And so, after having their fight, Emma went to find her. Luckily, she spotted the dark haired girl at a bus stop. "Lily!" She called out, running as fast as she could, carrying nothing with her but a backpack. "Lily don't go!"
She didn't want her to leave without Emma being able to apologize. The things she said to Lily were awful. She shouldn't have shunned her away. She knew that the two of them were better than this..that they should have stuck by each other. They were the only ones who cared about one another. She stopped at the bench, trying to catch her breath. "I'm sorry," she spoke simply, grabbing the back of the bench. "I'm so so sorry for the things that I said to you earlier.. I didn't mean it.. I really hope you know I didn't mean any of it."

Once again Lily found herself alone. She sat there at the bus station, defeated, hurt. She really did not want to ruin Emmas chances with this foster family. Then again they were so quick to judge her, was it really that bad? What would have happened later? When Emma had bonded more with them? They could have hurt her even more. Families were a strange thing, a painful concept for those who had never been accepted for who they were in their families. Feeling like the money was incredibly heavy in her pocket, she pulled her knees up, making herself as small as possible. Which bus would she take though? Where should she go? Lily was just about to get up and into the next bus, when she heard a well familiar voice. Emma came back. But why? Why would she come back? She made her point clear.
Lily watched her in shock and astonishment as she apologized. Now of all the times? Of course she understood Emma had been angry, but she had dismissed what she said. Lily wasn’t sure she should trust what she said.
“How could I know that? You were clear, Emma. I said I was sorry.” And she said other things. Lily made bad choices and she couldn’t help it. She really wanted this to change, but whatever she touched turned to hell. It was not a nice feeling at all.

Lily and Emma both had rights to be angry.. but Lily.. well.. she made bad decisions that had gotten them both in trouble. But it wasn't Lily's fault. Deep down, Emma was starting to realize that. "I know.. I know you did. And I was just angry, because.. i thought I had finally found a family that could love and accept me.. but they didn't even trust me. You're the only person in my life who's.. a constant. You're right there, every time I seem to need you. We're.. we're connected, Lily." Emma placed her backpack down on the bench of the bus stop. "I want to go with you. No one is gonna miss me." Emma wasn't thinking about legal repercussions. They could hide, right? She just wanted to leave.
"We can just run away, and neither one of us will have to look back. We'll start over, if we have to." She held out a hand to Lily, and felt nervous. What if she didn't accept her request for friendship? She wouldn't have blamed her. Emma gave Lily no reason to trust her not to push her away again. "Friends?" She asked, in a soft voice..watching Lily intently.

“They were your foster family. Had they cared, they would have adopted you and kept you come hell or high water.” It was as simple as that. Had they really cared for her, she would have known and nothing she could have done or say would have made them waver in their love. Families like that didn’t exist in this world, though, not in the system. There were like two lucky kids who found a family, but that was it. The most did it either for money or prestige. Emma was right, they were connected, they belonged together, because for Lily Emma was no prestige, no meal ticket, she was a friend, she cared about her, even if she screwed up her chances, but in the end, was it her fault those people allowed it to screw things up? Had they cared about Emma, they would have helped her. But they didn’t.
“Friends.” She answered softly, smiling at Emma. Now they just needed a plan, but they would find it. First they needed to leave the state, so the people had less chance of following them. With the money, they might have a chance to declare themselves emancipated, maybe. They would have to look into it. Then they could perfectly legally make their life alone, by themselves. “Where do you want to go, Emma? We can go wherever we want.”
