Hats. Hats. Hats. So many different hats. So many colors. So many styles. Just, so many hats! Jefferson's residence was filled with them and yet not a single one held magical properties. Not a single one effectively held the same abilities as did his magic hat. And until he could create one that did, he was stuck in this hell. It had been long. Too long. And with each day that passed, each day that he failed, he felt himself slip from reality a little more. His fingers were bruised, blistered, and bloody from his obsessive creation of hats. He seemed to have a growing reputation here as well for The Caterpillar wished him to create a hat. It was complete. Having just glanced at the oversized obese insect one, Jefferson knew that the hat would fit. This seemed to be his gift. Creating hat upon hat upon hat. Looking at his most recent failed attempt, he tightly gripped the hat in his hand, trembling with frustration. It was not uncommon for him to have an outburst and this seemed to be one of those instances. He threw the hat to the side, angrily tossing a large stack of other ones as well. "Make it work! Make it work! It has to work!" He yelled out to no one in particular. Talking to himself was also not a rare occurrence. He kicked and tossed the seemingly infinite supply of hats, only freezing his actions when he heard a knock at the door. Oh no. What if it was the queen. Or well, one of her minions sent by her. What if she was to check his progress? She would be massively disappointed. "Off with his head!" He cried out, leaping over the hats, causing him to stumble face down into the pile of them. He scrambled back onto his feet and rushed to the door, gripping the hand and he paused before swinging it open. He looked to the left, right, up and down, before his eyes rested on the most obvious yet last place he looked: the middle. It was not the queen, which only caused him to shake his head in a repeated tremble. |
