holding conflicting realities in Jefferson smiled at her reaction to his estate, claiming that it looked like a castle and inquired as to whether he had a map. "Lucky for you, cartography just happens to be a hobby of mine," he told her. "But don't worry. Just stick with me and you should be ok," he said with a hint of teasing as he closed the front door behind them. After Priscilla's death, he never expected to have another wife; to fall in love with another. But more importantly, to find a mother for Grace. But fate had for once been kind, and it seemed that he found all those things in a single woman: Angelique Roseau. The two had their wedding today and Jefferson felt happy. Blissfully happy.
He continued to smile at her as she spoke of loving him with every fiber of my being. "The feeling is very mutual," he assured her. He knew what it was to love someone, and knew he was so very madly in love with Angel. Not only that, but Grace adored her too and that was what made Jefferson so comfortable with this match. Had Grace not... well, there was no need to dwell on what complications could be posed with that. "I never thought I would be a husband again," he told her sincerely, gently placing his hands on either side of her waist. "I owe you a debt of gratitude for proving me wrong," he added on with a smile.

holding conflicting realities in He listened to Angelique speak about her feelings regarding this place. For some, well many, the curse that had initially taken them to Storybrooke had been to prevent anyone from getting their happy endings -- and a way for Regina to get hers. Yet for some, it seemed to be the opposite. If there was one thing Jefferson could say, it was that Storybrooke had certainly turned into a place of new beginnings for everyone; second chances and fresh starts. That was what he had been given with Grace.
He gave a small smile as she apologized for rambling. He wasn't entirely sure what he could say to make it better since she clearly had a lot of painful history in the Enchanted Forest. She then asked if he was glad to be back, particularly since he was with Grace. "Whether we're here or in Storybrooke, as long as I'm with her, I'm happy." It didn't matter where they were, so long as they were together. That was the main thing. He could have built a life in Storybrooke with his daughter. Or he could build one here. The most important thing, was that they stay together for wherever Grace was, was where his home was . . . and you know what they say, home is where the heart is.
"At least you have your sister here," he said, trying to help her find a positive. "You had a fresh start in Storybrooke with each other. Maybe you can find that here now as well." He could only assume as much, for his situation with Grace was similar. After having been seperated for so long, they were now reunited. "Where do you plan to go?" He questioned, wondering if she was going to join the others in the fight to take back the kingdom and protect it.

holding conflicting realities in Like was a funny thing. For the longest time, he had wanted nothing more than to return to the Enchanted Forest and have a new story written for him and Grace. One that didn't involve abandonment or false memories. He had thought this was the only way to be truly happy. But things had changed when he had found her, and embraced her.
They'd been together and he felt . . . complete. Little did he know that this was not the only happy ending awaiting him in Storybrooke. He had met a lovely young woman -- though their first meeting had been a little tense. But since then, he had gotten to know her more and found himself quite enthralled by her.
He was not one to frivolously date, nor one to trivialize a relationship. No one would ever be able to replace Grace's mother. At the same time, being in her company felt . . . right. And he wished to explore that rather than let his fear of losing someone else he cared about cloud his judgment. He had gotten to know her far more than he had allowed her to get to know him. He knew he was not an easy person to deal with, and that his mental state was questionable . . . but she never made him feel, mad.
Now that they were back in the Enchanted Forest -- thanks to Pan's curse -- he knew it was time to change this. While the others would take back the kingdom, Jefferson wanted to show Angelique his home. Where he came from. Give her some insight into the life he lived here. They had made camp for the night and most all were sleeping, including his Grace.
This would be a good opportunity to speak to Angelique to see what her plans were now that they were back in their initial home. He easily found her and approached her with a small smile. "Glad to be back?" He asked, a hint of sarcasm in his voice though perhaps she was happy to have returned here.
To him, it didn't matter where he was as long as he had his daughter . . . and now it seemed, as long as he had Angelique as well. Perhaps that was a bit forward, but he couldn't deny what he felt in his heart. Even if it was far too early to really express any of it. He had been in love twice before and knew what it felt like. Which was why he knew quite well, that he was on the path of finding love once again.

holding conflicting realities in She continued to tease with idea of a lost invitation. "Well doesn't seem to matter whether it was lost or not, as you still managed to come." She had figured out the date, time, and location. He supposed as queen, she had eyes and ears everywhere. So long as she was here to truly congratulate him and not for any other reason. He wasn't even sure he could offer his portal hopping services any more considering their past.
He knew that his words affected her, but he too remained in his composed state, unapologetic for them. He was about to be married to another woman and thus, had let go of the past. To address Regina as anything less than queen would imply that they had a personal relationship and he couldn't do that. Not at his own wedding. Not anymore.
She didn't verbally -- or physically really -- react to his words. Instead, she spoke of how he would have to open the present in order to see what it was. "I don't think I can handle another surprise," he commented, her presence being the first surprise of today.

holding conflicting realities in Jefferson looked toward the door when he heard someone enter... and that someone was no other than Regina. He gave an ever so slight smile as she asked if it was too early for coffee. The two had somewhat cleared th air between them, though he imagined their past would always be there. Unforgotten. "And here I was thinking that you were going to drop off an application," he sarcastically joked. He obviously knew that was never going to happen, but felt the need to make a jest about it.
"It's never too early for tea," he assured her. Though he supposed as an avid tea drinker, he was a bit bias. He pulled a menu of their drinks, moving toward Regina to pass it to her. "What kind would you like?" He asked. Was she truly here for tea? Or had something else happened? She looked at ease, for the most part. But he also knew what was happening in the town right now, and how she was affected by it.

holding conflicting realities in He couldn't help but smile when she told him that she would do the same; that she would wait forever for him. He wished they didn't have to but he couldn't hold it against either of them. He had known full well what the circumstances would be going into this and being with her... it was worth every risk and every second of waiting.
It wasn't as if it was one sided, for his work often kept him away for extended periods of time. Perhaps one day, things would be different. But if all they had was now, he wanted to take advantage of it and enjoy it. "Even forever may not be long enough for our love," he told her with a smile.
He wished they had an eternity together... a lifetime together. She then told him that her chambers were far more comfortable with him inside. "This is definitely more comfortable," he said in full agreement as he held her. He no longer felt idle just sitting there waiting for her... when she came, he had purpose again. As they lay next to each other, she told him she loved him, and the words never failed to make his heart swell with emotion.
He had never said such words to another prior to Regina. She was the first woman he ever loved and he hoped... the last. "and I you," he told her, the words coming with more ease than he ever would have imagined. He tilted his head to the side, tenderly kissing her forehead in a prolonged embrace as he listened to her tell him that the best part of being queen was him... for it was how they met.
Though their encounter was not as coincidental as they had all made it seem; Rumple had planned it, hired Jefferson and Viktor to play their roles. But he pushed aside those thoughts for the time being, not wanting them to ruin the mood now that they finally had a chance to be together for this temporary amount of time. "It goes both ways," he began to say, understanding the thoughts in his mind though he realized that perhaps he should articulate them.
"Not that I know what it means to be a queen," he said jokingly... though with obvious truth. "I'm just grateful that my work also played a part in us meeting. Who knew that Rumpelstiltskin would unknowingly be playing matchmaker," he added in jest. Either way, truth or lie, they had met because of Rumple as he had been the one common factor between them. It was a bit ironic though.
Rumple had wanted Regina to let go of Daniel and not dwell in the past of her broken heart as it was a distraction and would hinder her from fully embracing her potential. And here Jefferson was, proving to be another distraction. Funny how that worked out, but the portal hopper hardly felt any guilt or remorse for it. He was far too selfishly happy being with her than giving her up for any great potential for magic she may have.

holding conflicting realities in It felt like an eternity before she spoke again, though he knew it could have been a matter of mere seconds. It was the intensity of this subject that made it all seem longer. Knowing that her next words had the power to break everything or give him everything he wanted. He of course wanted her to want the child.
Despite his less than traditional self, he was traditional when it came to having a wife and family. Perhaps it was Lyall who had taught him that; a life of domesticity. He wanted that with Regina. Too long that they allowed themselves to be together without the proper commitment of a ring and vows. He had once proposed to her many years ago and while she had accepted... that was as far as it had gotten.
Things unraveled not long after. But now, perhaps this was an opportunity for a new life... the start of a new life. He waited, and waited, and waited... knowing that time was exaggerated in his mind... until she spoke the words that he hadn't even realized how desperately he longed to hear until he heard them. She wanted this baby. He felt a wave of relief wash over him though his expression and demeanor did not change.
Her voice was sure, confidence, unwavering... she wanted this baby. She was sure of it. Regina had been a single mother with Henry, and Jefferson had practically been a single father with Grace. They both knew what was lacking in a child's life when the other parent was missing from it. He wanted their unborn baby to have both, and not be lacking in anything.
"If possible, a child should have their mother and father in their life," he began to say. His lips then formed into a smile, expressive of what this news meant to him. "It would be an honor, to be a father to him or her." A product of the love that he and Regina shared... it was truly a beautiful thing.
He wanted to ask her to be his wife, but decided to wait for the perfect moment for right now, he was basking in the joy of the news she presented him, more so able to do now that he knew she wanted this child as well. "I can't tell you what this means to me." He was at a loss of words, for there were none that could completely express the happiness that was found in the news of a child.

holding conflicting realities in She continued to call him on his teasing bluff, trapping him in a corner though they both knew that he didn't actually attempt to send her an invitation to his wedding. "If I knew that, it wouldn't be lost now would it," he responded, evading the required blunt answer of stating that he did not send it. The initial comment that prompted this entire conversation had in itself been a tease... he was merely encouraging it to carry on.
She then asked that if she was unpredictable, what did that make him. He paused for a brief moment in thought, formulating a suitable response to the question. "Someone who should have expected the unexpected when it comes to you." He should have known she would come... but he didn't. Perhaps it was because he didn't know her as well as he thought he did. Or perhaps it was because of how she changed. Regardless, her arrival was not something he could have predicted nor anticipated.
She told him that surely he would not deny a queen her pleasures. Queen. That was indeed what she was, yet he had never regarded her as such. Of course he had used her status to get his royal passport so that he could travel... but he had not loved her because she was a queen. He loved her because she was Regina. He supposed the use of her title was accurate now, considering they no longer shared an intimate relationship as they once had. "No," he answered, emotionless.
"I would not deny a queen her pleasures," he added on, ensuring to emphasize the word that gave her status and rank. "So what would Your Majesty be gracious enough to bestow on my wife and I?" He purposely referred to her using formal title... maybe out of spite. Or maybe to remind himself that she was no longer his Regina. She was a queen, and he was a married man. His words held reminder to both those facts.

holding conflicting realities in When she returned from the kitchen, tea in hand, he gratefully took his cup and sat down as well once she did so. He watched her intently, trying to determine what could have happened that caused her mood to be such. She may be appearing calm and composed but he could practically see her mind at work. Something was troubling her.
The suspense of discovering what it was, was not too long for she eventually spoke the words that caused Jefferson to pause. Numbed, with shock. His expression ever so slightly changed as he just stared at her, taking in the news of this revelation. She was... pregnant. With a child. Their child. He didn't know what to say! He of course loved children. Being a father was the most incredible feeling; a joy that was incomparable to anything else.
She way she had revealed such news though made him wonder what she was thinking about. Did she fear his reaction? Or was she unsure how to react to this news? He forced himself to stay calm and composed though his own mind was flooding with thoughts, his heart with emotions.
Concealing all this he spoke in a leveled voice... even he was surprised by how composed it was. "How do you... feel about that?" He asked. He wanted to know more of her own feelings regarding this newfound discovery. Was she happy? Sad? Confused? Worried? Scared? He knew she had always wanted to be a mother, hence the reason she adopted Henry.
Would this be joyous news for her? Or would she feel she was not ready for a child? All he could do was look at her, trying to read something from her expression as the tea remained forgotten despite the fact that his hands were still occupied with holding the cup filled with the beverage.

holding conflicting realities in He was pulled out of whatever trance her presence had fixated him in, when she suddenly spoke of how she knew him. What? How?! That was impossible! She didn't know him! It was part of the torture; knowing who she was without her having any idea of who he was. And yet, she spoke these words with such certainty... though Jefferson was afraid to ask her to elaborate.
He just stood there dumbly, as she proceeded to pull something from her pocket. He forced his eyes to fall from her to the mirror she extended to him. One that held his face. What... was that? A magic mirror no doubt. But, to what purpose? It held his face and well, it was very clear that she had had this in the Enchanted Forest. But what did it do? Did she see him staring back at him?
This explained why she recognized him. It wasn't due to any conscious memories of him. It had to do with having an object that had the face of a seemingly unfamiliar man. She was directly asking him if this was him, if it used to belong to him. He wanted to tell her the truth, more so than anything. Two conflicting realities in her head...like you. It was that thought that stopped him from blurting everything out. He didn't want to take away what she perceived as her reality.
She had loving parents, friends, a life here. What good would it do to bring doubt to that? No. He wanted a new life for them. A new reality. Not this one. No one in this cursed world. He hated lying to her, though would do whatever he could to protect her... this fell under that need. "It did," he stated, answering her question. "I lost it some time ago." A lie, but a necessary one. The only possible logical explanation as to why she had something with his face on it.
"Where did you find it?" He asked, wondering what she recollected about the mirror. Obviously not the full details of it as their lives in the Enchanted Forest were wiped from their memories. Her next question brought focus to his slip of the tongue... and he knew he had to correct himself from that to. He wanted to say 'yes'. That Grace was who she truly was... but it was not fair to her. And he needed to keep reminding himself of that.
"No. I'm sorry," he quickly recovered, forcing back the tears. "You just reminded me of someone I once knew." She wasn't Paige, she was Grace! "What's your name?" He asked, forcing a small smile on his lips. He already knew everything about her, but had to act as if he knew nothing. What cruel torture this was: to have to pretend to be a complete stranger in front of his daughter, and have her look at him as a complete stranger.

holding conflicting realities in Jefferson watched with bated breath as she slowly inched toward him. The second she had hold of his hand, he felt a wave of relief wash over him at the contact. Not that he had her, he wasn't going to let her go. Ever. In one swift motion, he pulled her toward him, maintaining his balance on the ladder only now, he had her firmly in his arms.
He closed his eyes, breathing a sight of relief as he kept his arms around her. The fear was still strong, though dominating it was now the relief of knowing that she was alright. Physically anyway. He wanted to ask her if she was ok, but knew that right now, the priority was getting them on the ground, not on this elevated level.
Unfortunately the steps on the ladder weren't wide enough for both of them to descend. "Can you climb down?" He asked, planning to go first so that way, he could catch if she lost her balance. If not, then he would find another way. Even if it meant she had to hold onto his back while he climbed down. Anything to get her to safety.

holding conflicting realities in Grace welcomed him home and Jefferson thought of the word. Home. It was said that home is where the heart is and as Grace was his heart... he finally felt like he was at home. At peace. At ease with her in his arms. She was his serenity. Everything that made him feel whole.
For the first time in twenty eight years, his house would feel like a home. It wouldn't feel loveless, empty walls and empty rooms. It would be filled with love and joy by her presence. He closed his eyes, trying to let his emotions settle, unable to let her go... as if letting her go would make him lose her all over again.
He wanted to apologize for keeping her waiting, but he knew that words were inadequate. No amount of apology would ever earn forgiveness for what he had done. He never should have left. Even Regina reminded him that the blame was his... nearly her last words spoken to him before leaving him in Wonderland.
He had always believed that you should never abandon family yet that was exactly what he had done. He had left her. And he would never make that mistake twice. "I've missed you," he said quietly. Once again, the words were not enough. Though spoken heavy with emotion, they did not even begin to cover how much he missed her.
But it was all he could offer her in this moment of their tearful reunion. "I've missed you so much," he added on again, moving his lips to rest against the side of her head, taking in the feeling of being with her once more... a wonderful euphoric feeling that was consuming his entire being.

holding conflicting realities in Seeing was smile had the ability to brighten even his most stressful day. It was as if all his worries were eliminated whenever he saw how happy she was. He may be happy, but he was always concerned about the welfare of his daughter. He wanted her to have everything she deserved and knew he only provided her of a small fraction of that.
It was his love for her that made him want a better life for them, yet it was also his love for her that had made him choose this life, rather than his former one as a portal hopper. True, he had made quite a lot of coin but it was not worth the risk of losing her, or her losing him. She spoke of how she had a surprise to him and his face became animated to meet her enthusiasm. She then spoke of how she had picked mushrooms to sell at market. His eyes widened with surprise and his lips turned into an open smile. "That's wonderful, Grace!" He said, setting her back down on the ground but not without another kiss on her cheek. "You always pick the best mushrooms so I know that these ones will sell quickly at the market."
Mushrooms were a slow business, but the fact that she had taken the time to help him . . . meant the world to him. He didn't want her to have to be concerned with such things, but that was the way their life was. At least he was able to spend time with her, something he former job did not afford him.
"What would I do without you my dear, Grace," he asked rhetorically, not daring to imagine such a world without her, as he continued to softly smile at his beloved daughter. "And since we are exchanging surprises, I have one for you," he stated as he finally let her go, moving to where he had the stuffed toy wrapped in a cloth and handed it to her to be opened.

holding conflicting realities in She teasingly mentioned the number of realms he was able to access due to his unique object of travel. "Right. Seventeen. Ample opportunity for things to get lost," he added, going back to the reason they speaking of this... though of course they both knew that her invitation had not gotten lost. She then told him that she was a woman of mystery.
"I think unpredictability is more fitting," he said with teasing sarcasm, though it did not come out with the same ease or lightheartedness as it once had when they were together. Oddly enough, everything had felt simpler then... because they had been together.
And despite all the circumstances, they were determined to remain that way. It was after Leopold's death that things became complicated and eventually... led to this. Him wedding another woman and sharing a dance with Regina on his wedding day to another.
She the provided him the relief to his unspoken concern, saying that she was not here to spoil his special day. Though this relief was short lived as she then went on to say that she had come to offer a gift. He knew that it was incredibly rude to reject a gift, but he couldn't help to say the words that came to mind.
"That's not necessary," he told her calmly, a slight politeness in his tone... but also, assurance that they didn't need a gift. "Your presence here is gift enough." To one overhearing their conversation, it sounded like a proper compliment, due to a queen. However there was an underlying tone of sarcasm... one only recognized by those who knew him well enough. In this case, Regina.

holding conflicting realities in He remained silent, letting this revelation process in her mind, not entirely sure how she would react to it. What side of her would he see today? He knew that deep down, she was the same Regina that he had fallen in love with... but that was no longer the woman she was projecting herself as. She then spoke, saying that a daughter should have a father. He kept himself composed, despite the strength of his emotions. "She deserves both," he stated. Lyall had been a wonderful mother and if he could, he would easily switch places with her. But he couldn't.
"But since that is no longer possible, neither is me resuming my former work." He would not let any harm come to his Grace, or himself, for her sake. The last thing he ever wanted was for her to be orphaned. Regina then placed her hand over his and he was surprised by his own actions of not pulling away from her touch. He kept his eyes locked on hers as she expressed what seemed to be genuine condolences for his and Grace's loss.
He remained silent yet again, taking in the sincerity of her words as they did not seem to be feigned or false. He also knew that they were not easy ones for her to say and he had to provide at least some acknowledgment of that. "Thank you," he responded in a low, but equally genuine voice. Despite their past, he could no longer allow himself to indulge in any intimate moments with her and this . . . this felt like an intimate moment.
He forced himself to break eye contact, quietly clearing his throat as he casually pulled his hand from her touch. "What brings you to the market today?" He questioned, an attempt to change the topic of conversation. "Surely not mushrooms," he added, his words somewhat joking though his expression nor tone held any amusement or light hearted form that usually was visible and heard when one was making a jest. He just continued to look composed, calm, and serious.
