A child's scream made his eyes dart open, and Tarzan sit up. Blinking rapidly for a moment, he rolled tot he side and dropped from the tree. Pausing he looked around, trying to assess where the sound came from. In the distance, he could hear an adult voice: male, loud, panic. Too far from the scream which had been clearer, closer to him. Slowling his breathing, he waited for a sign, and then it came again--a scream. Bolting toward the sound, Tarzan ran toward it, trying to keep sound down as he did. but not bothering to hide it either in effort to get to the cry before whatever else was out there. He came to a clearing, and looked around again. Where. Where. Where. Hearing the scream again, he took off toward it. Not bothering to call out to her, so whatever was hunting her (and in these words surely something was hunting her) would not hear his approach.
When he drew in sight of her, he saw the girl and the boar. Boars were dangerous, fast, and could kill her painfully. Without pausing he ran toward her, scooping her up as he passed and shifted her so she could cling to his back like a baby money, "Hold!" He demanded, hoping she had the frame of mind to do so while he jumped up to grab a branch and pull them up. Pulling her from his neck, and sat her on the branch. "Are you hurt?" The angry boar would pass soon enough.

holding conflicting realities in Jefferson had been playing a game of hide and seek with his daughter, just like they used to. Being back in the Enchanted Forest with her was more than he could have hoped for. They may not have their massive mansion, but this was so much better... because he had his Grace. They were together, and he would rather a life with her lived in simplicity, than a life without her lived in extravagance. Unfortunately, their game had taken a rather unpleasant turn. While Jefferson was 'hiding', there was a large creature that had charged at him, one that he had been unable to outrun. It had thrown him well across a tree, and knocked him out.
When he rose back to consciousness, there was only one thought on his mind. Panic struck in as he scrambled to his feet. He may not know a lot about wildlife, but he did know that boars traveled in packs. Though one was plenty. "Grace!" He cried in, desperate to find her. He could not, would not, lose her again. He hurried through the forest, trying to find her. "GRACE!" He called out again. He could hear her scream and that only made his heart beat faster in his chest. No no no no no... this wasn't good.
Grace tightly clutched her doll, squeezing her eyes shut as she screamed out for her papa. The next thing she knew, someone had grabbed her and was carrying her off. Was it her father?! No. It didn't feel like him and it certainly didn't smell like him. She slowly opened her eyes and saw some strange man. She did as he instructed and held on tightly, tightly closing her eyes once again, too scared to look behind her and also frightened to see where this man was taking her. And apparently, it was up.
She felt herself flying into the air and soon enough, they were settled on... something. Opening her eyes once again, she saw it was a branch, as he effortlessly set her down. She was trembling from the trauma and fear of what had just happened and tightly held her doll to her as if it was the only thing keeping her from crying. Though she inevitably felt the sting of tears in her eyes. He asked if she was hurt... so maybe he wasn't going to hurt her? She slowly shook her head a small whimper escaping her lips. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke. "M-My p-p-papa says I shouldn't t-talk to s-strangers," she managed to get out, her voice catching from the threat of crying.

That made things difficult. He had learned that was often taught to children for fear of the evil of other humans out there. It was just a small reason that he preferred animals instead. "Can you nod to tell me if you are unhurt?" He tried, hoping that would at least get him an answer.
"I heard a man calling out back that way," He pointed, "Can we not be strangers long enough for me to take you too him?" Moving so he could face her directly, Tarzan balanced on his toes while looking into her face, "I mean you no harm." He hoped she believed him, because if not the only other thing he could think of was to leave her here and go to seek out the father to bring him here. "I am called John here, in this land, but where I am from I am called Tarzan."

holding conflicting realities in Grace gave another small nod, realizing that her previous shaking of her head may have been too subtle. She tightly clutched her doll to her chest, trying to figure out what the best thing to do in this situation was. Her eyes lit up when the man spoke of having heard someone calling. "My papa!" She exclaimed, relieved to hear that he was alright. "We were playing a game and..." Well, the man probably knew the rest. They had gotten separated, and she had not been able to find him. Asking her if they could cease being strangers so that he could take her to her papa sounded like a rather enticing offer. And his further reassurance of not meaning her any harm certainly helped somewhat ease her mind.
His name was Tarzan, or John. Some preferred one name over the other. "My name is Grace," she returned politely, sniffling a little. "I guess now that we know each other's names, we aren't strangers anymore," she said with a small smile. "So I think it would be alright if you took me to my Papa... please." Oh yes! Manners! She couldn't be rude now. Even if she didn't know who he was, he still saved her life. "Thank you," she added on sincerely, though a bit shyly as well. "Are you far away from your home?" She asked curiously.

Tarzan smiled. How wise of her! They were not strangers now, so she could talk to him! Finally! Someone was making some sense. She seemed concerned for her father, so he decided they would not wait for the boar to leave. "Let me take you too him then," Reaching out for her, he pulled her back on his back, "Hold tight, and if you can't hold on, say so quickly, and I will catch you."
She has asked about his home, and he waited until he jumped from their branch to another before answering her, while crossing the tree. "I am from a place many, many miles from here. It would take months of travel to reach there." But he didn't know where there was. Only the pirate did. He jumped to another tree, and looked around, before dropping down the the ground, and helping Grace too her feet. "We can walk from here, and if it comes back we will return to the trees. Come, his voice came from over there." As they walked he returned her question, "Do you live near by?"

holding conflicting realities in Grace was rather eager to get back to her papa, and was elated when the man offered to take her to him. Her smile grew a little, comforted by the fact that she would not have to find her own way to him. She feared getting lost. Doing as she was instructed to, she held tightly to the man, closing her eyes as she felt him leap from branch to branch. Curiosity caused her to open them, realizing she felt safe enough that he wasn't going to drop her. Soon enough, they were on the ground and he helped her to her feet. "You must have had a lot of practice doing that," she pointed out. She walked alongside him, staying close by his side.
"Why are you so far from home?" She asked curiously. She felt sad for him, but maybe he ran away from home? "Do you have a family?" She further inquired, rather curious and fascinated with his man who moved so effortlessly in the trees. "Yes," she answered. "Our home is not a long walk, but I don't know the way," she admitted. "My papa does though!" She added. As she walked with him, she clutched her doll with one hand and with her other, casually took his hand in her own, holding it as they walked.

"You must have had a lot of practice doing that," "I have been doing it since I was smaller then you," Tarzan admitted, not thinking anything of her question. He had not practiced so much as just did it. "Why are you so far from home?" That was a harder story to explain. "A boat took me away, and I haven't found my way home yet."
"Do you have a family?" Children often asked this many questioned. He had learned that in his travels. They were simple humans. Curious. More like he was used too. "Somewhere out there." But not like her. His mother and brothers were apes, and he had learned the difference, but called them family still. She had also said she didn't know her way home. "You should learn to tell your way through the woods, so you can find your way next time." It wasn't harsh, but offered as if she might not have thought of it before.
By this time of their walking he knew that soon they would be approaching her father. Tarzan had been raised in the jungle and if their was one law above the others he knew not to get near someone's young without their permission. His guard went up just in case.
