"Oh please, Papa! It would help so much if you could!" Jefferson looked at his pleading daughter, often lacking the strength to ever tell her no. The guilt over everything she had endured burdened his heart, and yet she never held any resentment against him. How he was the father to such an angel, he would never understand. Nor ever feel he deserved. All he could do was spend the rest of his life making it up to her, loving her, and never -- ever -- abandoning her again. "Grace I . . . " "PLEASE!" Grace hardly ever asked for anything. And so hearing her want him to do this -- not even something regarding money, but rather, time and sentiment . . . well, how could he refuse.
"How could I possibly say no," he conceded. Grace beamed with happiness as she leaped into her father's arms, wrapping her own arms around his neck. Jefferson lifted her and kissed the side of her head, feeling his heart swell over having made her so happy. "By the way Papa, one more thing . . . " She moved her head back to look at him. "I already told Ms. Angelique that you would, so she's hoping to meet you say right about . . . now!" Jefferson raised his eyebrow at her, not angry but feigning disapproval, which Grace understood and giggled at. He lowered her to the ground as she took his hand and started leading him toward the door, then to the car and before he knew it, they were on their way to meet her theater instructor.
Once he parked the car and they got out, Grace took her father's hand once again, skipping into the building, knowing exactly where to go. Once there, Grace had no problem doing the introduction. "Ms. Angelique!" She cried out excitedly, waving with her free hand while pulling her father with the other. As they neared closer, she spoke in what she believed was a whispered voice but really . . . it could be heard by them all.
"See Papa! I told you her name has Angel in it for a reason!" She stated before turning back to her theater instructor. Jefferson just gave a bit of a smile, not the slightest bit embarrassed by Grace. "You must be the Angelique I've heard so much about." He wasn't exactly a massive people person. He didn't trust the people in this town, but he was doing this for his daughter. And as Grace had only wonderful things to say about her theater instructor, well, Jefferson could play nice to the woman who brought his beloved daughter so much excitement and joy.

Hello! Here I have Jefferson aka The Mad Hatter! He is a loving father to his daughter named Grace, and mostly keeps to himself in his rather large mansion. In the other worlds, he was known for his unique ability of making hats that served as portals to travel between the realms. He's now left that life behind, and resides in Storybrooke, after having finally be reunited with his daughter.
I'm up for any threads for those interested in plotting with Jefferson! Any time line, any realm, or even AU! Just reply here or shoot me a message. I'm looking forward to it!

| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Calm, cool, collected, Jefferson often has a somewhat calm demeanor. His sanity is in question after having spent a significant amount of time trapped in Wonderland, attempting to recreate a magic hat. He hates the nickname given to him (The Mad Hatter) and often reminds people that his name is Jefferson. He is very distrusting of others and keeps to himself for the most part. Only when he is with Grace again, does she prompt him to interact with more people. Though that does not make him any more trusting of them. He has been betrayed, used, and threatened far too many times to easily find a friend in someone else.
He lives for his daughter, willing to do anything and everything for her, and holds a tremendous amount of guilt for her mother -- his wife's -- death, as well as abandoning her. He is found in circumstances that highlight his desperation to return home, but no matter what, he lacks the strength to be overly violent -- even if he does have a questionable mental state. More than the Mad Hatter, he is a loving father, and wishes to devote his life to his daughter, Grace. .:Strengths:. Knowledge since he seems to know about many goings on in the town, but often keeps to himself, his excellent at sewing, his unique ability to create hats that serve as portals between the realms, his love for his daughter for it often motivates and inspires him to be a better man .:Weaknesses:. His mental state can be brought into question at ties, his guilt for his wife's death and fear of losing his daughter
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. The Enchanted Forest .:Family:. Grace [daughter] Wife; deceased .:Occupation:. hat maker, realm jumper, mushroom seller, loving father .:History:. Jefferson had always had a remarkable skill of making hats. What set him apart from others was that his hats held the unique ability to create portals that could transport people to different realms. It was a dangerous venture, but Jefferson was successful in his attempts, and became obsessed with the concept. He started to build a name for himself, assisting some of the most powerful users of magic in this seemingly impossible task. Jefferson spent many years, getting paid well for these services, and eventually... found love. But that didn't stop him. Not when he married the woman he loved, nor when their daughter, Grace, was born. He wished to provide a proper life for them and his line of work paid handsomely.
It wasn't until it was this very line of work, that caused the tragic death of his wife, that Jefferson began to re-evaluate his life. He decided to hang up his hat, and find a more modest lifestyle for his daughter and him. He had a crippling fear of Grace losing her father, just like his mother, so abandoned his portal hopping job, found a quaint home in the middle of the woods, and here he raised their daughter. He began to sell mushrooms, and while they took a financial hit, they were happy in this modest lifestyle. All that, was about to change.
Once having done business with the queen before, Regina showed up at his home and made him an offer where he could provide a better life for his daughter. Jefferson refused until his inability to provide his daughter with a simple stuffed toy, made him realize his failures in providing a better life for her. He agreed to Regina's offer, venturing with her to Wonderland. What he did not anticipate was her betrayal that resulted in being at the mercy of the queen of hearts. She tasked him with the impossible mission of creating another hat to portal travel, and he remained trapped in a room for countless years, his sanity slipping away from him as he crew consumed with desperation to make a hat. Under the curse, Jefferson was one of the very few individuals who's memory remained in tact. This, was ultimately his curse. He resides in an enormous house, with everything he could ever want . . . except his daughter. Trapped for 28 years, he watches her from afar, grief stricken at her life without him, and never approaching her as her father out of fear that it would only confuse her. He is desperate to return home, and find away for her to lose memories of this world for he does not want her to have conflicting realities. Even when the curse was broken, he did not immediately go to her, afraid that she would hate him for having left her all those years ago. But much to his delight, she embraced him as her father, and with her, with his beloved daughter, finally found the start to their happy ending.
| ~ • ~ | Sample Post | ~ • ~ | "Would you like some more tea, Papa?" Grace offered as she held up the teapot, doing justice to her name as she held it with such grace and poise. "Why yes, that would be delightful," Jefferson responded with a smile. It was turning into a daily tradition, these tea parties of theirs. But truth be told, Jefferson adored every second of it. "I must say, you are the best tea maker in this entire kingdom. Perhaps beyond!" Jefferson stated with a genuine look and matching tone of voice.
"Hey!" he suddenly said, pulling away his cup and plate from the stuffed tortoise to his left. Giving him a suspicious look, Jefferson then leaned forward, speaking in a whispered voice. "Mr. Tortoise here is trying to steal my cookie," he said, eying the inanimate object. But all that mattered was that their existence was real to Grace, and he would play along with his wonderfully imaginative daughter. His accusation caused Grace to giggle as she lifted a pretend cookie from her plate and put it on the stuffed animal's.
"There is plenty of cookies to go around, Mr. Tortoise. It's not nice to steal you know! My papa says an honest living, is the best living." The words caused Jefferson to softly smile with pride, hearing her speak positively of his words. . . holding no resentment that their life was a simple one; that she was the daughter of a mushroom seller.
"You know, if he had just asked instead of grabbed, I would have given him half," Jefferson said in a rather matter of fact tone before taking a sip of his imaginary tea. "Good thing he's a tortoise then papa, cause if he wasn't slow, he may have been able to take it!" Grace added, laughing at the thought while Jefferson himself could not help but smile. A simple and modest life they lived . . . but it was above all else, a happy one.
