Regina had just taken care of some business but she was in no hurry to get back to her cold castle. Yes, it had plenty of riches and finery but Regina had never been interested in that sort of thing, unlike her mother. Greed was not her flaw.
She much preferred traveling, exploring. Sadly, being queen kept her rather busy and she could not wander as much as she would have liked. She only left the castle when she had work to carry out. But when she was out, she always did enjoy herself. She loved seeing new places. She’d been too cooped up under her mother’s ‘care’. And then when Leopold married her, he’d locked her in a pretty little cage. He didn’t like his wife wandering about anymore than Mother had approved of her daughter leaving the estate. Her job had been to sit and look pretty and satisfy Leopold’s other needs when he had them. He’d had them too often. There had been no tenderness or warmth between them, not even the affection of friends. Leopold had been cold to Regina and pushed her away. He’d made it abundantly clear that she was to sit beside him for feasts and come to his bed when he had the urge but otherwise was to stay away. But he was afraid of her affection straying so he would rarely let her leave the castle. He needn’t have worried. Daniel was her true love and he was dead.
Regina shook her head, trying to push aside the melancholy thoughts. She was outside, roaming. She should enjoy herself. All too soon she’d be forced to return to the castle. She thought she might take a look at the lake. It was supposed to be quite beautiful. As she approached it her smile widened into a malevolent grin as she recognized someone who was looking rather distraught and dejected. “Why hello there Ariel!”

“I'm quite the resourceful woman,” she said with a playful smirk. All too true. People underestimated her in many ways. But there was a reason she was queen even if people had coined her evil. There was a reason that she made just as much gold as Midas’ kingdom without the magic. Well she had magic but not his golden touch curse. No she simply knew how to handle finances, nudge the economy in the right direction. That was part of the reason why people tolerated her even as they tarnished her name with the undeserved title evil. Snow White had blinded them all! One day, they’d see! Snow was the wicked one! Snow was the devil with the angelic face! One day she’d show them all! But not today. She wasn’t here for all that. Snow was...Regina wasn’t quite sure at the moment. She’d put all other activities on hold for now. This wedding deserved her full attention. She’d come with a purpose. Perhaps she’d been mistaken originally. But now Jefferson had set her straight with his cold and callous words, his emphasis of titles that once meant nothing to him. Well, if he wanted a queen, she’d give him a queen. She understood now. Regina had thought that maybe he still cared for her, that perhaps there was still some tenderness despite all the betrayals. How many times would she let his charming smile fool her?! No more! She clearly meant nothing to him. And if it wasn’t the same in her mind and heart now, she’d make it so! Love was weakness. Mother had been right all along. Regina had given her heart freely to two men. And where had that landed her?! Daniel’s death had left her in a loveless marriage, heart growing colder and colder all the time with how wretchedly Leopold treated her. But at least Daniel himself had never betrayed her! He’d loved her with everything he had. More than anything, he wanted to be with her! No, it wasn’t Daniel that broke her trust multiple times, turned against her when Regina had thought he was the one person she could believe in! Love was pain and suffering and lots of it! Love was sleepless nights and dreary mornings. Love was a sickness that took root in your mind and heart, made it so you could think of nothing but someone else. You could never be happy unless they were right next to you, touching you, holding you, kissing you. But she was wise to all that now! She was an independent woman much better off without someone as treacherous as Jefferson by her side! She didn’t need him! She didn’t need anyone! She was the queen! It was infuriating how damn composed Jefferson remained! As much as she’d steeled herself, it was too little too late. Her eyes had moistened and with Jefferson staring directly into them as they danced..He couldn’t have missed it! And still he did nothing to try and comfort her! But then..Why should she expect anything from the man who had broken her heart twice already?! It was lunacy to believe in him, to trust him with anything. “Well you shall have it, my dear Jefferson,” she replied, voice smooth as silk. The dance ended and she pulled back from Jefferson but not too quickly so as to seem upset. The pace was natural, the smile never leaving her crimson colored lips. But now, his touch was like poison to her. She didn’t want to be near him. She snapped her fingers a box approximately the size of a large book appeared in arms in a cloud of purple smoke, delicately wrapped in red velvet, topped off with a gorgeous satin bow. Regina had not only prepared the present herself but gone through the trouble of personally wrapping it. It was almost like she wanted to impress Jefferson. But of course that couldn’t be the case. She’d consider this a parting gift to someone who had once meant something to her. This was the end of their era. The previous coffin had just been a decoy. The final nail would be hammered home now, as soon as he accepted it, as soon as he opened it. With grace and poise, she extended an arm to hand him the package, smile widening in anticipation. It was not a delightful smile but a devious and slightly malicious one, the smile a cat would wear when eying a helpless canary trapped in a cage. “For you and the lovely bride.”

Setting: Second Season before Emma and Snow return after Henry tried to break in her vault Regina was sitting in Henry's old room, head down on the pillow sobbing. How many years had it been since she'd allowed herself to truly cry? She'd faked it for years and years. But she thought the last time she'd genuinely cried was that night when the wizard Victor had told her that the operation failed and Daniel could not be resurrected. It was then that she finally accepted that Daniel was gone forever, beyond her reach. Up until then she'd harbored hopes that he could be restored. But true love's kiss hadn't been strong enough. Rumple said such magic was impossible. "Dead is dead," he'd so eloquently put it. And her one last hope, the wizard Cictor who hailed from a new world and had access to magic that wasn't possible in her own, couldn't restore him. That was it. She'd known there was nothing left. No more dreams. No more chances. That was when her heart had truly hardened. She felt like she'd lost someone all over again. It was an accident! She hadn't meant for Emma and Snow to get sucked into the hat! It had all gone wrong. But who would believe her after everything she'd done? No one understood her reasons. No one cared to find out. To everyone Snow White and Prince Charming were pure good and she was nothing more than an evil queen who had lost her power once the curse was broken. Although now magic was restored. So she still had something. And people were scared of her again. Why were people always sacred of her? No one was capable of loving her. But she only had herself to blame for that. How could she act like her mother after everything? Even Rumple had said she looked like her when all those years ago he'd been the only one to say "I don't see it". She knew how terrible it felt to have magic used to imprison you, keep you somewhere your heart didn't belong. And yet she'd cast a barrier spell on Henry, her son! That was the last straw. She realized he needed to leave. She didn't want him to stay here because he was a prisoner. But that was it. She'd lost him for good. He blamed her for Snow's and Emma's disappearance. He wouldn't forgive her unless she got them back and she had no idea how to go about doing that. The hat was out of magic and magic was weird here after whatever Rumple had done. She didn't have a firm grasp of it yet. The doorbell rang and Regina tensed. The only people who came to visit her were those who harbored grudges and were feeling particularly brave or suicidal. She didn't need this right now! She couldn't take it on top of the loss with Henry! But no...She wasn't so weak as to hide away. She hurriedly dried her eyes but she knew they would still be red. Well there was nothing she could do about that now. She wouldn't let anyone call her a coward. That was Rumple's burden. It had never been hers. "Coming," she called out. She walked down the steps and reluctantly opened the door. She froze where she stood. "Henry?!" she asked uncertainly. Was this real?! Had he really come to see her?! "What are you doing here?" she questioned. She wanted to scoop him up in a gigantic hug and never let go but she figured that would be a very bad move. He was still upset with her and she figured if there would be physical interaction it would be best if he started it.

And there was that sarcasm Regina always seemed drawn to. But she appreciated the obvious tease in his tone. The smirk rather than infuriate her, set her mind at ease. She’d prefer to go into what she knew would be an awkward discussion with some degree of levity. She was grateful that Hook closed the door. This little chat was something she’d like to be kept strictly between the two of them. None of the others on this boat were aware of exactly what had transpired prior to her abduction. They only knew that Tamara and Owen (now calling himself Greg) were responsible for that little misadventure. And she had no intention of divulging anything more, getting into the betrayal tag Hook and her were constantly playing. Ideally, that would end now. But Regina was not known for her optimism. At least she would like to set any feelings of bitterness aside until they’d gotten Henry back safe and sound. He was the priority. There could be no distractions, not if they wanted to succeed. Peter Pan would be a most fierce enemy. She’d never liked him even when he wasn’t bothering her. (Thank goodness for Jefferson’s connections!) As an enemy...She didn’t even want to think about what someone with his power could do. She’d come here enough to understand he controlled the island. Nothing happened here that he wasn’t aware of sooner or later. She was sure he already knew they were on their way. Hook leaned against the door, simply staring down at her; and, she knew it was up to her to begin the conversation. After all, she’d been the one to ask for a moment of his time. The question was..How exactly did she start something delicate like this? Regina wouldn’t exactly consider herself good with heart to heart discussions. Yes...This was going to be awkward, no two ways about it. “I’m sorry I double crossed you.” Her tone had a bit of an edge to it; but, the words were sincere. If she wanted a clean slate, she should be the one to make the first concession. “For whatever little it means..Back with Mother.. That was her idea not mine. And I didn’t originally realize she was planning to leave you out of...well everything. She...Always does a number on my head.” She couldn’t express how grateful she’d been for his sarcastic, “Why aren’t you Mother of the year?” comment. It was nice to feel that someone understood. Like Rumple said, “Your mother never did you any favors”. She turned the whole town against her, even her own son! She’d crushed her spirit so in her vulnerability, in her great depression she’d turned to the one person who’d always manipulated her, the one who’d first stolen her happy ending away all those years ago. It was madness she knew. But she’d been hurt and confused. And she thought no one else would be on her side after her supposed murder. No...She certainly hadn’t been thinking clearly. Look where teaming up with Mother had gotten her. “Using you for bait..Yeah, that was all me,” she acknowledged. “And I shouldn’t have done that. Now we can argue about betrayals until we’re blue in the face but you and I, we’ve always been more open minded than most.” Or crazier. Why else would they continue to try and work with each other after all the treacheries? (Sex wasn’t enough to justify that. Although it was always a nice bonus.) “I’m willing to set aside the past if you are. I almost died back there. But then you almost died too. I knew what was going to happen with the dragon but I left. You knew what was going to happen with Owen and you left. But you didn’t help him with the electric shocks. You didn’t even move the equipment. I do appreciate that.” It gave her an extra minute. It might just have saved her life. She was not looking good when Snow finally got to her.

Regina had heard of this new project Jefferson had gotten himself into for his daughter’s sake. The name was...Interesting. Not necessarily bad. The spelling was wrong. But then a shop called Tea Time spelled correctly was just boring. Tea Tyme was...intriguing at least she supposed. And no she wasn’t being petty. Yes...She was a touch envious. Jefferson and her had...It was a marvel really. After everything they’d been through, all the betrayals and heartbreak, they’d slowly managed to patch things up. The incident with mother framing her had been the trigger ironically enough. The thing that had been meant to destroy her hope, shatter her heart and spirit had been the foundation of her amends with him. In her desperation, she’d run to him as she always did. And in her weak and fragile state, she’d laid her heart bare, expressed all those feelings, everything she’d been holding back and hiding from him for so long. Without Mother’s intervention, Regina very much doubted she’d have had the nerve to pay him a visit, not after the hospital, not after she’d told him quite clearly she was done with him as much as she could never mean that. That didn’t stop her from being a tad jealous though. He was so close to his daughter. And they even lived together. Although things were going well with Jefferson, the same could not quite be said about her son Henry. Henry was thrilled to learn that Regina hadn’t killed Archie. But Mother...had certainly complicated things. Henry was willing to see Regina...occasionally. But now he lived with Emma. She barely got to see him, her son! This Tea Tyme thing drove home that point that while Grace was the center of Jefferson’s world, the light of his life, his support...Henry could not be that same force for Regina. She wasn’t even entirely certain Henry thought redemption was possible for her. But she should try to cheer up! She didn’t want to bring Jefferson down with her gloomy mood. She was here to offer encouragement, ideally be his first customer and well..If she was perfectly honest, she just really wanted to see him. Bells chimed as Regina stepped inside, her lips curling into a smile when she laid her eyes on Jefferson. “Is it too early to buy some tea?” she asked, tone teasing.

The straw that broke the camel’s back. Such a little thing really. Such a silly little thing. But it had gotten to be too much. It had a been a terrible burden from the beginning. Jefferson was the only one who’d made it bearable. But now it was too late for even him to save what she feared was a quickly blackening heart. He’d been gone for months, away working. They hadn’t even arranged a meeting time. Of course...That was normally the way of it. He surprised her usually. It was dangerous for the two of them to exchange notes of any kind. Should Leopold discover it...But now it wouldn’t matter. Jefferson would be safe. Because Regina just couldn’t handle this gilded cage a day longer not even an hour! The only reason she paused was because she wanted to say goodbye to an old friend, the only one she had in this cold, hateful castle. She wasn’t allowed to be in the garden now. She was supposed to be picking out the china to be used for some fancy dinner party. But now she was too upset to care. Her grief, her agony, her determination had emboldened her. She’d fled to the garden, her place of solace and refuge. If she was going to end things permanently, her last moments should hardly matter. The king couldn’t bully her, couldn’t scare her, couldn’t chip away at the pieces of her heart anymore! Because soon everything would be over. She’d been deprived of choices for most her life. Rumple and Jefferson had blessed her with a few. But this...This was something she could choose for herself, do on her own without any help at all. This one power remained to her. In this one way, her fate was hers to decide. She would choose her ending. And the time was now. It was time to bid this bitter, cruel world goodbye. If she was lucky, she’d be reunited with Daniel. He was no longer her love; but, she would still like to see him again, apologize and be with him but as friends not lovers. Now her heart belonged with Jefferson. Perhaps this was selfish and cruel of her. She knew her death would hurt Jefferson especially if he found out how she’d departed this earth. No doubt Leopold would cover up the truth. He couldn’t take the shame. But Jefferson, her Jefferson, was crafty and clever. And he cared. He loved her! She was certain he’d look into it, wishing to know the truth. Would he be disappointed in Regina? Would he hate her for her choice? All she knew for certain was that he’d be very upset, overwhelmed by grief and melancholy. And he was such a sweet person, one of the few to show a lonely queen genuine kindness. No...Unlike the others..He didn’t show. He’d showered her with it. He was the only reason she’d lasted this long. She wished she could write him a letter. She feared he’d blame himself for her death when he was the one who’d given her hope and joy, purifying the heart the king so callously wrenched and twisted. Because of him she could continue to believe in the goodness of even Snow, the little girl who’d stolen Regina’s world. She wanted to die with that belief, that kindness. It had been an accident. Snow had only been trying to help. She was a sheltered little princess, a girl of ten. Of course Mother had fooled her, tricked her into thinking she’d only had Regina’s best interests at heart. If Regina had grown up with Snow’s mother instead of her own she probably would have been just as naive and optimistic, just as trusting. As it was, she had too much of all three of those qualities. That was why she’d believed true love could win out and that she could escape the suffocating life Mother had planned for her. That’s why she’d thought a little girl could keep such an important secret. She should have known better. She should have run with Daniel as soon as Snow learned the truth. She should never have laid the burden of that secret upon her. Or...At the very least, she should have given in when Mother caught them, sworn on her life to marry Leopold so long as she let Daniel go. But no..She’d thought her feelings could move Mother’s non-existent heart, force her to understand how much Daniel meant to her, how happy he made her. The truth was Mother had probably understood all along. She simply hadn’t cared. She’d never viewed Regina’s life as her own. She’d said it quite clearly. “It’s not your life. After all the sacrifices I’ve made, it’s mine.” Mother didn’t see her as human. She’d always tried to make her into some obedient marionette, some pretty little doll that parroted her opinions. But now none of that mattered. She was done. Her one regret was that she couldn’t send Jefferson a letter, expressing her love, telling him her reasons, hoping that somehow in another life they could find each other again, be together. She didn’t want him to blame himself. She wanted him to know he’d given her every reason to live! Now..She just couldn’t. Would Jefferson laugh if he knew the thing that set her off, the single extra drop of tea that had shattered the small and fragile cup? Regina had a clumsy moment. She’d been pouring Leopold tea like a good wife. Only...Things had gone horribly wrong and well..Soon his nice shirt was soaked. The words had flown freely from his lips, effortless. Something so carelessly uttered...She wondered if he even meant it or if his temper had merely gotten the best of him. But the feelings they stirred within her... Now it didn’t matter. She’d decided and that was that. And...As much as she longed to, she couldn’t write that letter. She would have no idea how to get it to him. And if the wrong person saw, Jefferson could be hanged after her death! She wouldn’t let her death cause another! Leopold was a jealous man. Even after she drew her last breath, she was certain that wouldn’t change. If he found out she’d given her heart to someone besides him...That person would suffer and suffer terribly. She couldn’t do that to her Jefferson! Never! She reached her beloved apple tree, her friend since childhood, the one that could always soothe her nerves, stoke her spirits. “I’m sorry dear friend,” she said gently, tenderly stroking the bark. “I’ve tended you since I was a child. But now it’s time to say goodbye. Once, we had two things in common. Neither one of us truly belonged in the palace and neither one of us could ever leave. But very soon, we’ll just have the one. I have to leave! I can’t take it anymore! I hope you’ll understand. I’m sure Father will care for you in my absence. Thank you for everything. And please forgive me.”Regina stepped away from the tree, moving to the very edge of the balcony. She jumped up on the ramp, taking a moment to balance herself, enjoying the slight breeze. She was almost ready. But there was one last thing she needed to do. She wanted to burn the image into her mind, seer it into her brain for all eternity. She’d never forget that day. He’d handed it to her with cheer and levity, the gesture seemingly casual for all the tenderness and care the action implied. A gift, a token of his affection. “So you’ll never forget me,” he’d said in that light and teasing tone she adored. As if that was even possible. Regina had hidden the necklace beneath her gown. It was their secret. Something just for her and Jefferson. She didn’t want anyone, least of all Leopold staring at it. And this..This was the last thing she wanted to see. Regina delicately removed the necklace from underneath her dress, smiling as she fingered the cool metal. The necklace itself was fairly simple, a silver chain with a matching silver top hat pendant. But to her no necklace was more beautiful. And there was an undeniable eloquence, a charm to its simplicity. And it never did fail to remind her of him, bring a smile to her lips. Now was no different. She was happy, just gazing at it. Wherever she was going, she wished somehow she could take it with her. But at least, she’d hold onto it until the bitter end. There was no point in delaying any longer. She’d seen it. She’d thought of him. Her heart was with him as it always was. She would die here and now with her kindness intact, with the heart that Jefferson cherished. “I’m sorry, my love; but, I’m going on ahead. Don’t weep for me. It’s like you said. Forever isn’t long enough for our love. I’ll wait for you. However long it takes, I’ll wait for you.” And with that, fingers curled protectively around her prized possession, the beloved silver pendant, she took a breath and leapt.

Well...This was certainly a day of surprises. Regina had been through so much she should be worn out, beyond exhausted. She’d been tortured just a few hours back. She...really didn’t want to think about it. Someone like her was used to pain of course and lots of it. But...That sort of physical torment...That was new. That high voltage did a number on her for sure. She’d barely survived. But she knew the truth of it...She was only alive because Snow White had decided to rescue her of all people. She wasn’t sure how to feel about that. She didn’t like being in people’s debt to begin with. And Snow White...Well, they had a very complicated history for sure. Snow no doubt felt the rescue was necessary to try and make amends for Regina’s mother. The naive little fool still felt guilty about it. She shouldn’t. Did Regina miss her?...As much as Mother had been a monster, as much as she’d made Regina’s life miserable, as much as she shouldn’t, as much as it made no sense...Yes. She’d actually been sad at her passing, much more so than she ever would have believed possible. Why should she mourn a woman who had caused her such grief, who’d magically abused Regina to make her act as she wished, who’d ripped out her true love’s heart while she watched powerless to do anything, who’d abducted her father, who’d turned the whole town of Storybrooke against her, crushing her spirit? But...Well..She was her mother. Regina supposed some particularly tainted and twisted part of her heart had no choice but to love her. Or...Maybe the answer was slightly more rational than that. Maybe what filled her eyes with tears, her heart with sorrow, wasn’t the loss of what had been but the loss of what might have been. So long as Mother breathed, as terrifying as her existence was, there was some slim chance of reparations. It was...theoretically possible to make amends, for Mother to show that she truly loved and accepted Regina as the woman she was. Now who was sounding hopelessly naive and optimistic? Regina had clearly been spending too much time around Snow. Well in any case, Snow had saved her. But one near death experience just wasn’t enough for this lovely day she’d been having. That detonation device had been an awful idea. It had never been her first choice, just there as a precaution, a last resort. But well...Owen and Tamra had snatched that and then activated it....Regina had been determined to die a hero’s death to save her son, to solidify her redemption. She was sick and tired of being a villain, a miserable Evil Queen who never got what she truly wanted and didn’t even dare to think about what she was missing, love. Rumple had been right. She couldn’t have everything. He’d tried to warn her when he paid his respects to Mother. “We both know killing her will cost you the thing you want most, Henry. Why don’t you just give up this obsession with vengeance? You know it can never make you happy. You had a whole curse worth of vengeance and what did it get you? A gaping hole in your heart. Still haven’t learned your lesson have you?” “What lesson?” she'd asked, frustrated upset. “The same one your mother learned a long time ago. You can’t have everything. She wanted power, ripped out her own heart to get it. You want vengeance? Henry’s the price you’ll pay. Time to cut your losses.” He’d looked so disappointed at her “never”. And...Had there even be a touch of pity in his eyes? Rumple was a difficult man to read. But despite their...rather interesting history involving screwing each other over several times...Rumple was the one who always gave her choices and good advice when she’d listen. In his own way, he seemed to look out for her and care. That was why she’d always seen him as something like a second father figure. Unlike her own father, he did guide her and was willing to protect her. He gave her real options and dared to ask what she wanted! And unlike Mother, as strict and harsh as he could be with her lessons, he’d always praised her when he felt she’d done well. He was...Tough for sure. But more nurturing than her real family ever had ever been, as twisted as that sounded. So why? Why didn’t she listen? She could tell he was being sincere there. She could rarely figure out exactly what he wanted. But she did know him well enough to get when he wanted or needed something for her and was using her to that effect. She knew he wanted the Dark Curse as much if not more than she did. But she’d made the mistake of assuming that if that particular deal wasn’t better for her than him, that at least she was getting as much out of it as he was. That was always a terrible assumption. Every time...Rumple bested her when it came to deals. Well..Perhaps that wasn’t quite true. He had taught her some valuable lessons. He was always there to instruct her even if the process was a bit..heart wrenching. Yes, he was like a second father. The only one she had living. Rumple’s pressing questions were always so poignant; but, they made her come to grip with certain things, precious important things. But maybe she was a slow learner at least emotionally. She’d lose her temper; and, it could take a while for his questions to hit home, for her to face them. And now was that time again. He’d been right. She’d clung to vengeance rather than love. And because of that Henry had been abducted. It was her fault! The detonation device had provided that opportunity. But she understood now! She was done with revenge! She just wanted her son back! Henry was the only thing that mattered! And now with Snow, Charming, Emma, Hook, Rumple, and her all working together, nothing would stand in the way of Regina getting Henry back! Regina would feel...a little better if Jefferson were here with her. She’d never come to Neverland without him before. But...She knew it was safer for him to be back home. When he’d been a portal jumper, he’d had an understanding with Peter Pan. And yes...Peter Pan was frightening and formidable. She’d never opposed him staying close to Jefferson; but, she clearly understood that fact. His power was something to fear. And..He was dangerously whimsical. Not to mention clever and cunning and just..nasty! She’d fought to keep herself from shivering the first time she’d stared into his eyes. There wasn’t a trace of empathy anywhere. It was like gazing into the abyss. All she’d wanted to do was hide behind Jefferson. Of course she hadn’t! She’d hid her terror and stood there with dignity as a queen should! But yes...She really wasn’t pleased to be coming back here! Even Rumple had looked anxious for a split second when they'd learned Henry’s whereabouts. But well...At least he was with them. The only one who cold rival Regina’s power was him. Together, surely they could put a stop to Pan’s mad scheme. Now Hook was showing her to her quarters. Some space, to both rest and think, to recover would do her good. She was surprised at the smile that played across his lips when he lead her into her room. Had someone else stayed here before? Well that was as stupid question. She was sure they had. But someone he liked? Who could make him smile like that? Well that was a discussion not for now. They had more important matters to contend with. He explained about blankets and water; and, Regina couldn’t care less. Henry was the priority. That’s why the two of them had to talk. She had to make sure their head was in the same place. “A moment of your time,” she replied when he asked if there was anything else she required. They had to discuss what happened. She’d used as him as bait. He’d sealed away her magic and left her with the two psychopaths that nearly electrocuted her to death. But in Hook’s defense, he refused to help torture her. He’d left. He hadn’t even carried the device over. She was grateful for that as much as he hadn’t lifted a finger to assist her. And now...There was too much at stake for grudges of any kind. She was willing to offer a clean slate if he was. At the very least, they needed to temporarily set aside their differences. “Can we talk?”

Regina echoed Hook’s small smile when he assured her he didn’t see it that way. That was good at least. Regina knew she had every right to complain, given the night she’d been through. But all the same...Hook had had an equally rough one; and, she didn’t wish to annoy him. It was thoughtful of him to come and check on her like this. She did want to show him she appreciated the gesture. And really...What good would moaning do? Would it throw Marian back where she belonged? No. Regina was stuck with her. She’d just have to cope, find some way to get others to believe in her and trust her again. She wasn’t a monster! That woman who’d imprisoned Marion and apparently sentenced her to death, that wasn’t Regina anymore! Maybe in time even Marion would come to see that. But she wasn’t holding her breath. Marion pretty clearly hated her. And...Regina had to admit that if what everyone was saying was true...She had good reason. (Regina didn't actually remember the maiden herself.) Regina didn’t want to demonize the woman. That wasn’t her anymore. Honestly, it was slightly easier to sympathize with Marion than Emma. She’d had no say in the matter. She’d been dragged here against her will. Emma was the idiot who went..Hey! Fantastic Idea! Let’s bring back someone who’s supposed to die! There’s no way that could negatively influence the time stream! Of course Marion would freak out. She had no idea what was going on. She’d been suddenly ripped not only from her world but her time. And she had no cursed memories to help with the adjustment. The only constant was Robing, Roland, and Regina. (The three R’s. Go figure.) And well...Regina was hardly a comforting constant. Of course she would be scared. And her son was involved...Regina could hardly blame Marion for wanting to keep her son away from the ‘Evil Queen’. She hadn’t seen the changes. All she knew was Regina’s worst self. “So are you actually going to tell me what happened?” she asked curiously with just a hint of impatience. She’d didn’t care for explanation foreplay. She wanted a story not a description of how epic and glorious said story would be. Regina knew almost nothing about Emma’s and Hook’s little adventure. She only saw the end result. And no, she didn’t appreciate it. “Always nice to make an impression!” she teased back. People could say what they would about the Evil Queen. But she was always memorable. She followed Hook’s lead not because she didn’t know where the Rabbit Hole was. (She knew every inch of this town. She’d made it herself after all. And 28 years was more than enough time to grow overly familiar with it.) But because she was a bit hesitant to leave the forest that brought her such comfort. She’d linger as long as possible. But still...Drinks would be good. “You said you’re buying! And I promise you, I’m no light weight!” Tonight...She felt like she just might get drunk. Typically she didn’t have more than a glass. But well...Tonight had been hell. She thought she was entitled to an extra drink or two!

Hook’s smile gave her courage to continue along the lines of her conclusion. As impossible as it sounded, Hook and Emma had traveled back in time. The spell had worked; and, one of the crucial ingredients was the strongest heart. And Zelena hadn’t taken just any heart. She’d been hell bent on Regina’s. No other heart would do! Regina wasn’t wrong! She was the type of person who could always piece the broken shards of her heart back together after it shattered. No, it was never the same. Cruel experiences left scars and burns. But she was still an emotional creature, someone who felt things very deeply. She wasn’t as gentle or kind as she’d once been. But she wasn’t a monster either! She was no longer a villain! Regina smiled slightly as his nod of approval, taking heart from his resilient comment. Yes, people like them were resilient and adaptable because they had to be. They understood the world was merciless and vicious. To survive both physically and emotionally they needed that very special quality in abundance. She couldn’t help but wonder if Hook was more resilient than even her. He did have centuries on her. He’d know Rumple when he was human. So he was only slightly younger than Rumple. Based on physical appearances, she’d guess he was 20 years younger tops. And according to Peter Pan, Rumple was around three centuries old! And she’d trust that Peter Pan knew what he was talking about as he was Rumple’s father or rather...had been before his son had killed him. Talk about screwed up family dynamics. Not like she was one to talk. She’d sent Hook to murder her mother. And then Mother had turned the tables and convinced Hook to side with her. The only reason Regina was still alive was because she’d chosen the rights words to say over what she assumed was Mother’s corpse. Apparently, even heartless, Mother had felt something for her. Although that didn’t change the fact that Mother had been a monster, someone who’d never loved or appreciated what Regina was and made her childhood and early adult life miserable. And then she'd come back to set the whole town against Regina when she was trying so hard to change... Yeah...She was not getting into the who had a more screwed up family line of thought. That would not make this night any easier to swallow. She chuckled. “True,” she replied when he insisted that everyone was entitled to their feelings. “But I’m sure you don’t need to hear me whine. Your night couldn’t have been easy either, traveling back in time and all,” she teased. She was making light of the situation; but, her words were never-the-less sincere. She could only imagine how frightening it must have been for Hook to have suddenly found himself back before Emma was born with no idea of how to return home. And then there was all the stress about wrecking the time stream. Yes..It certainly wasn’t wise to bring Marion back. But she was sure Hook had tried his best. She wasn’t quite willing to give Emma the benefit of the doubt. The wounds were too fresh. But Regina was more willing to forgive Hook because of their shared history and because Marion had been Emma’s idiotic idea even if Hook had gone along with it. “Sometimes understanding is enough,” she said softly. Comprehension alone couldn’t change anything. She knew that. But in a world where most assumed the absolute worst of her, it was nice to feel that there was at least one person who understood her pain and so was at least more sympathetic towards her than the rest. A small smile graced her lips at Hook’s “long live Regina”. Now that’s what she wanted more than anything, for people to see her as Regina not the Evil Queen. When she’d been planning to sacrifice herself to save Storybrooke, the town she’d crafted with her magic and ruled over as mayor, she’d told Emma to let her die as Regina. At her core..Regina was a good person, wasn’t she? She’d been that way once upon a time. And that lonely girl..she still existed inside Regina’s heart! She knew it! She just..had to try harder to hear her. But balance her! Now she had experience and could temper the naivety and optimism with healthy doses of reality and skepticism! As loathe as Regina was to admit it, once she’d been almost as naive and optimistic as Snow. “A drink sounds fantastic!” she answered, giving more a wry than happy smile. She was doing better; but, she could definitely use something to help take the edge off this hellish night. Upset feelings didn’t evaporate at the drop of a hat. Well then...She supposed that depended on which hat. There'd been a certain one that could always brighten her day with its special skill. But now that hat was gone. Damn Charming. That was his fault. Well technically George had burned it; but, as Regina liked George, she'd rather blame Charming. And Geroge had only done it to get at Charming. And as Regina was having one horrific night...She'd damn well blame whoever pleased her in her head!

Regina spoke and there Jefferson sat same as before. There was no change in his expression. He continued to hold the cup he was all but ignoring. His face wasn’t blank; but, it was calm and composed; and, it drove her mental! She couldn’t tell how he felt at all! Was he happy?! Sad?! Anxious?! Upset?! What?! There was no point in keeping her face complacent. She’d laid her heart bare in her words. And she had a damn good excuse for being emotional at the moment! SHE WAS PREGNANT! She had no idea when hormones were supposed to kick in. She’d never actually carried a baby before despite being a mother. Adoption was a lot less taxing on the body. Although it did mean a good deal more paperwork. Fortunately, Regina had Rumple to cut through that red tape. There hadn’t been much she needed to do besides sign on the dotted line and then bring the baby home with her. Of course the real work came afterwards. Yes...She was sure she looked apprehensive. At least she wasn’t fidgeting. That was...likely the only thing working in her favor at the moment. She did note that she was gripping her cup a bit too tightly. If she kept this up it would probably crack and spill tea all over her floor if not her suit. And even with that knowledge, she was powerless to loosen her grip. Regina was stressed and needed this expression however detrimental it was. Frankly...She didn’t know how much more of this she could take! Why was Jefferson being so cruel, saying nothing, revealing nothing?! Was he in shock?! She supposed if he was that was excusable. Or was he trying to organize his thoughts into something either more coherent or witty or both?! She supposed that would be forgivable as well. But she didn’t need composure or perfection at the moment! She only wanted to hear his genuine thoughts, to know where he stood! Regina was worried about her own composure and maybe that was silly. Although they hadn’t specifically defined their relationship, they were together again. She loved him; and, she knew he loved her as well. Didn’t their intimacy, their closeness mean it was alright to open up, to throw away the masks, and just be honest?! That’s what she was trying to do! So why was he depriving her of the same courtesy?! Why couldn’t he just speak his mind?! The truth would come out one way or another; and, she’d rather hear it from him than figure it out on her own! Yes, he understood her better than anyone else and she him. So yes they could see past the masks but...She was emotional now and would rather skip that step! She didn’t want to play guessing games, piece together each shift of expression like a puzzle to determine in his inner thoughts. She just wanted to hear it! She was scared! What if he wasn’t ready for this type of commitment?! What if he did feel things were moving too quickly and that he couldn’t be the father to their child?! What if he honestly thought it would be better for her to get rid of the child?! She knew she couldn’t! She loved Jefferson so much! How could she possible give up this symbol of their love? Even for him, that was one thing she couldn’t sacrifice! But she didn’t want to gain a child just to lose him! She wanted to rely on his support throughout this ordeal! This time, she wanted someone by her side while she raised a child! Regina was practically hyperventilating, squeezing her cup so tightly cracks had started to form by the time Jefferson spoke. With his smile, her mind was immediately set at ease, her grip finally loosening. That smile...And the way he said a child should have both a mother and father...There was no doubt about it! He was happy! She sucked in a breath, doing her best to keep herself from crying. Her eyes were moist; and, she feared she wouldn’t be strong enough to push back the tears. But...She’d been terrified. And here Jefferson’s expression as well as his words clearly stated there had been no reason to worry. He wanted to be their child’s father! He wanted to be a part of their life! But did that just mean visitation or..What did it mean?! She didn’t know and feared she was in no state to ask. But the important thing was, Jefferson was excited! Or..She thought he was. An honor didn’t necessarily mean it was something someone wanted. Honors could be obligations as well as compliments. But no..He seemed too joyful for it to merely be another responsibility. This was her Jefferson; and, she knew him! This was Jefferson elated! His next words confirmed it. Now there was no doubt and the tears spilled over as Regina shook with silent sobs, teacup rattling in her hands.

Jefferson’s smile was adorable! Regina wasn’t exactly sure if guys liked being told they were adorable. She expected most wouldn’t. They’d probably want to be described as something..more masculine and tough..Or something. But she couldn’t help herself! Jefferson’s smile right there..It was absolutely adorable! Just looking at it sent her heart fluttering! She wished she could stare at it forever and ever. But she was lucky just to have this special moment between the two of them. She’d content herself with that. Even after Leopold had done...What he’d done....Jefferson always found some way to set her mind at ease just by being himself. He was that sort of amazing person, different and unique. So maybe someone special like him wouldn’t mind being thought of as adorable. But she still wasn’t going to say it! It was more than enough, having him by her side. The two of them were quite a pair. Leopold kept Regina under lock and key most of the time. And then Jefferson’s work kept him busy. Sometimes he was gone for months. Between the two of them, it was difficult to scrounge up a meeting time. Although the place was always predictable. Where else could it be but the palace, Regina’s gilded cage? She was only ever allowed to venture out if there was some formal event and then only with a royal escort. Typically Leopold would be there but not always. He did do a great deal of traveling with his daughter Snow. And so sometimes Regina had to take care of things while he was gone by herself. But she still didn’t have any choice. Leopold had planned everything from what she would wear to where she would go. Although technically the servants were the ones who picked her dresses, he’d selected those in charge of such decisions himself, to make sure Regina always suited his taste. Even when he was gone, he left behind strict schedules to detail Regina’s movements. Although she should be in charge when he was away, she was just as trapped as ever. Guards and servants saw to it that the king’s wishes were always carried out. It was easier to sneak around when there was no king to report back to, it was true. And she got a much needed break from her conjugal visits. But besides those few comforts, her life was much the same. She supposed the one good thing about Jefferson’s busy life was that he could appreciate Regina’s restrictions. Just as his schedule wasn’t entirely his to command but his clients’, she had the king and his army of servants to cater to. And somehow the two of them made it work because their love was strong, the strongest! Leopold cared nothing for Regina’s heart but Jefferson did! He mended it each and every time the king chipped a piece away, cracking it. He was there for her! She’d been sincere! For Jefferson she’d wait forever! Just knowing that he wanted her and would come for her, gave her enough hope to get through the day however miserable. He was the reason she could stumble out of bed in the morning, take that painful first step. Each second that passed brought her closer to his next visit. That’s what she believed. That’s how she lived. Her heart would shatter without that unspoken promise. She refused to contemplate his death. If she lost him...There’d be nothing left. That’s why however powerless her prayers, her fervent hopes were, she always had to say “be safe” before parting. Nothing was more important than his welfare. Regina chuckled when Jefferson said even forever might not be enough for their love. “Then what would be?!” she asked with levity. “Eternity? Infinity?” But those were just synonyms. Forever..Could a human even wrap their mind around such abstract concepts? Could those who were finite, frail, and fleeting truly comprehend eternity? When Jefferson told her this was more comfortable she snuggled closer, grin widening. Nothing was as precious as Jefferson’s touch except maybe his smiles! She loved it all, every part of him, everything he was and everything he brought! Regina beamed at his “And I you”, heart beating furiously in her chest. She reached for Jefferson’s hand and laid it over her heart. “It always beats so fast for you, Jefferson! So please...Please take good care of it!” There was no doubt in her voice. She knew he would. But after everything Leopold put her through, it was nice to hear the words. He tenderly kissed her forehead; and, she just smiled sweetly up at him, savoring this closeness. Regina chuckled when he said he didn’t know what it meant to be queen, taking a leaf from his book, trying to tease rather than get depressed. She loathed the word queen now. She held no real power. The title was a death sentence, chaining her to this palace indefinitely. But Jefferson was here; and, he always worked so hard to raise her spirits! She wouldn’t make his task any more difficult! “It means wearing extravagant dresses that cost more than a house!” Really...She could only imagine how many people could be fed if she’d sell even half her gowns! If it were up to her, she’d put the funds to better use. There were orphan children who suffered and old men and women who couldn’t even afford gruel. She didn’t know much about it or how to help them having been sheltered all her life...But she knew she did want to assist them, give the kingdom not only what it needed but what it deserved! But alas...She had no power, no influence. Leopold controlled everything even her, maybe especially her. “If you’d like I can slip you into one so you could get the idea!” she teased. She chuckled trying to picture Jefferson in a fancy dress. "I can even brush your hair!" Okay! She was having way too much fun envisioning that! She had a mini giggle fit. She nodded her head in fervent agreement when he said his work played a part. She adored it because it was magical, amazing, adventurous, and simply magnificent. But even if was the most dull, humdrum job in the world, she’d love it all the same because it brought them together. Regina might be miserable most of the time now; but, if things weren’t the way they were, she’d never have met Jefferson. And she wouldn’t give up her love for anything! Regina laughed at the mention of Rumplestiltskin playing matchmaker. “He’s like a scaly fairy godmother!” There was more truth to that than the words implied. He’d given Regina her first real choice in her entire life. He was the one to ask what she wanted. So far...Things hadn’t ended well. But he’d given her a chance! And with his magic lessons and Jefferson’s visits..Surely things would get better eventually! “Jefferson please...Tell me you love me!” she begged with sweet innocence. Words had power; and, to Regina, no one’s words held more power than Jefferson’s. And right now, she really needed to hear him say it. If he did, she wouldn’t doubt. She’d know things would get better with him here by her side supporting her as best he could.

“Oh come now, Jefferson! You can know the world you mailed it from and not what became of it!” She continued to tease. The words themselves held true as much as she knew Jefferson had never bothered to inform her about this very special day. Clearly, she wasn’t important to him anymore. They had parted on a sour note true. But she still would have thought that given everything they’d shared before, she’d have deserved if not an invitation at least a warning notice! But oh no! She’d had to find out on her own! And given that the affair was so small and quiet, if she hadn’t had people paying special attention to Jefferson, she wouldn’t have known until after the fact! But she wasn’t bitter! It was wonderful that she was of no significance to him, that she occupied not the tiniest portion of his mind or heart! She so hated people that clung like this detestable Lyall. She’d thrown him out and that was that! It was wise of him to realize that things were over! If he’d come crawling back, that would have just made things that much worse for both of them! The foolish naive girl she’d once been might have forgiven him after all. And where would that have gotten them? No doubt he would have betrayed her yet again later down the line and broken her heart. Just how many beatings could one fragile organ take? But he’d left and Regina was stronger for the separation. And that was the reason she’d come besides her idle curiosity! She was here to remind herself that love was weakness! This thing...Whatever Jefferson thought he had with Lyall. It wouldn’t last! He’d see! One of them or potentially both would ruin it! He paused at her question, perhaps acknowledging his faults or perhaps trying to come up with a witty response. Likely both knowing Jefferson. She nodded her head, remotely pleased with his answer. She did value herself as not just whimsical but creative. (Of course she was also a schemer; but, there was no rule that professed schemers couldn’t have moments of whimsy.) It was always best to expect the unexpected when it came to her. The emotionless "no" cut her, as much as she hid it. But that was nothing compared to his next statement, the cold and cruel emphasis of queen. She’d only brought up her title in jest, the way she used to. The one thing she’d always loved about Jefferson was that he could see past her title. To him, she wasn’t merely another soulless royal but...It didn’t matter! Apparently he’d lost sight of who she was! Did he even recognize her at all anymore?! She was so upset and startled by his words that for a split second her eyes became moist; and, it looked very much like she was about to cry. No matter what came between them, she’d always assumed he’d be the one person she could count on to see her as Regina. Not a queen. Not a noble. Not a ruler. Just Regina. She’d been wrong it would seem. And this misunderstanding hurt her more than she would have thought possible. This..This felt like another betrayal, one worse than even the Snow incident. At least there, he’d called her Regina up until the bitter end. And now..It was as though she’d been completely cut lose, everything they were, everything they’d shared, everything he’d thought of her...Gone in an instant, buried in that callous word queen. But he wasn’t content to let her mourn her loss. Oh no! He had to keep asserting just how little she meant to him, using yet another title. Your majesty..She’d never thought she’d live to see the day he’d utter those words seriously, a heartless uncaring title. As devastated as she looked, as soulless and dejected and utterly broken as her eyes appeared, glistening with tears she only just barely kept in check, she somehow managed to move in time with the music. She had to keep up appearances after all! Her steps were a bit stiffer, a touch less graceful. But unless people were paying apt attention, they wouldn’t realize the difference. The only telling feature was her eyes. Love..Love was weakness. If she ever doubted that now she had legitimate proof! She’d loved Jefferson once and look what he’d done to her, what even a pale imitation of his affections were doing to her now! His words bit and stung and bled her heart dry because of the warmth they’d once shared. His love, if she’d ever had it, had given her false hope and sweet promises. But now everything was bitter and ruined, twisted and tainted! She was in pain, her heart aching because once upon a time, she’d loved him with everything she had! She hadn’t come here to rekindle old feelings, or relight old flames but...Seeing him again..Something inside her had stirred......No! There was no point in thinking like that! All she had to do was remind herself that love was weakness! She was in agony now because of him, because of what she’d once felt for him! She would coil her despair into wrath, braid that sorrow into hate! Jefferson had found someone else and she no longer had any use or need for him! He had no place in her mind or heart! She was done! She sucked in a breath as thought to affirm her stance and to permanently lock the tears behind her eyes. Amber orbs hardened and then there wasn’t the briefest trace of anguish or melancholy. She looked like the spitting image of a proper queen, graceful, elegant, composed. “Now, now, Jefferson! If I told you that, it’d spoil the surprise! You’ll have to wait until you open it!” Her tone was light and teasing with no indication that anything had ever been the matter. She sounded just like any other excited partygoer. Her heart was breaking, Regina herself trying to strangle any stray pieces so that nothing was left but numbness. But now she betrayed no sign of her struggle or her grief. She danced and smiled, an eager warm smile befitting a queen.

Hook deepened the kiss and Regina slipped her tongue inside his mouth, quickly entangling his own in hers. She hadn’t realized just how hungry she was, how big an appetite she had until just now, with them connected in such an intimate way. But now her lust was growing! This closeness didn’t alleviate it but rather intensified the whole experience. She wanted him. Regina wouldn’t be satisfied by a kiss no matter how passionate. She wished to feel this pirate inside of her. Soon the tables were turned so to speak and she was the one roughly repositioned so that she was seated on the edge of the table. Not like she minded. She was no frail little flower, no flake of snow. She appreciated a man with vigor and bite. She had a domineering personality and so did this man. It would be interesting to see how they both meshed and clashed. It was quite possible to have two controlling partners in this sort of dance. One would be more aggressive at moments and then the power would shift. So it was like a battle as well as a dance. And she enjoyed the challenge. If something was simple to obtain, it was hardly worth getting in the first place. She rather relished a rough exchange, a play for dominance. Timid and submissive types bored her, couldn’t sate her deep thirst. The captain quickly lowered his hook to tear through the center of her dress, exposing her legs. She had no issues with this development. She cared little for riches. Most of her spending, funds not devoted to the kingdom but to personal use, went towards her lavish wardrobe. She could buy another dress. And as for legs, she certainly wasn’t ashamed of them. She had an impressive figure and knew it. She shivered a bit as Hook caressed her upper thigh, slipping her hands underneath his shirt, touch light and teasing as she traced circles near his nipples, never quite letting her fingers stray that far.

Maybe Hook would find this to be a stupid question but...All the same she had to ask. “It worked right? You actually managed to go back in time, right? So...That means...” She took a breath. “Zelena took my heart. She didn’t want to kill me or otherwise manipulate me with it. We looked it up and...She needed it for the spell. It was...an emblem, a token, something that took on its own weight. My heart...It represented the strongest heart. And...if you actually did go back...” And they had to have gone back! How else could Marion be here, Robin Hood’s wife who’d died so long ago?! “That proves it, right that I’m the one with the strongest heart?” Her voice was surprisingly fragile. She hated it. And the evidence was all there. It wasn’t even a matter of believing her untrustworthy half-sister. Because Zelena had never mentioned what she’d needed the heart for. They’d researched the magic themselves, both Belle and Regina. And if she was able to work with Belle after everything they’d been through, imprisoning the princess in her castle and then keeping her trapped in the psyche ward in Storybrooke for the duration of the curse...That had to mean something right?! Didn’t that show that she’d changed that Belle believed in her at least a little bit, enough to trust her with her boyfriend’s shop and his books?! She’d like to think so! “If that’s true...That has to mean something like this won’t break me!” Her heart had shattered so many times she’d lost count. And yet each and every time she’d manage to piece it back together. It was never the same. She couldn’t possibly reconstruct what had once been. Pieces were lost forever. Some new ones took their place. Her heart was...rough and worn. Sometimes it grew much blacker, more twisted. And sometimes, she helped brush of the asphalt that coated her heart, making it slightly brighter. But always...Always she could build something from the ashes! And there were still pieces that lingered from the very beginning. Even when she felt as though she’d lost everything, there was some connectedness, some semblance of what had come before. There were still bits and pieces of that lonely little girl who’d loved the stable boy just as there were still pieces of that naive queen who’d loved Jefferson. As much as she’d denied it, tried to harden her heart and push herself away from such an intense feeling that made her vulnerable, there’d always been love. “It won’t break me!” she repeated more firmly. If she lost things...Then she’d only have to get them back! She didn’t have to take them by force! She wasn’t that person anymore! She just...Had to get people to believe in her again, show them that she had changed for the better, for good this time! They might doubt but so long as her will was resolute, they’d see her for what she truly was in time, wouldn’t they?! Mother was wrong! The town would come to trust her! And if they couldn’t after everything, wasn’t that their problem, their sin?! She was redeemable! She had to believe that! “I’m sorry. You’re right. There’s no point in comparing.” Hook had his own path to walk just as she did. She’d struggle to reclaim her goodness. All the sins she’d committed, they weren’t so easily laid to rest. But it was possible! She would believe that! He was right. Lamentation wouldn’t help either of them. “I’m sorry,” she repeated. “I don’t mean to drown in a self pity party. It’s just...It’s been one hell of a night.” She thought she was entitled to at least a moment or two of gloom and doom. But she found herself really glad that Hook had come to find her. If anyone could understand what she was going through now, it was him. And having someone beside her who wasn’t quite the hero type, who also needed to redeem himself was soothing. “I don’t doubt myself! I’m never going back to the person I was! The Evil Queen is dead!”

Regina could feel the weight of Jefferson’s stare as she sat down, cradling her cup, not sipping from it just yet. She wasn’t sure she’d really appreciate the taste at the moment. She was too wired. Normally, she very much enjoyed Jefferson’s eyes on her. But now...Her nerves were eating her alive. She had no idea how he’d respond to this unexpected development. And his penetrating gaze was not helping her imagination! Regina was a woman used to receiving the worst. If she should share the news only to watch revulsion flash across his face...She wasn’t sure if she’d be able to handle that, especially now. She felt this was good news! She did! It just...complicated things. It meant at the very least the two of them would need to sit down and have a very serious chat about their relationship and what it would mean for their child. Under no circumstances was Regina getting rid of it! She loved Jefferson as hesitant as she was to use the word in front of him. And already she loved this baby growing inside her. It was his. It was theirs! No power on this Earth could make her sacrifice this child for anything! She was having it! And honestly..It would be nice to have a baby that was just hers, no sharing. As it was, she barely got to see Henry anymore. He wasn’t staying at her house. He still had his room here of course. And Regina still considered him her son. She hoped he still loved to her as a mother. But...With Emma here..With him staying with her, she could admit she was a little lonely. She...She really wanted this baby. But she wasn’t sure how to express it. And she was genuinely scared to be this open with Jefferson. Henry...was still a bit of a touchy subject. Jefferson still knew her so well. She was certain she’d masked her emotions if not exceptionally well at least adequately. And yet Jefferson understood something was if not the matter at least on her mind. He was unusually still for him; and, his gaze was heavy, as though trying to probe her. But he waited for her to speak in her own time which she was grateful for. She’d been blunt, just wanting to get it out before she exploded. And then he stared. It was...extremely difficult to read him. There were moments Jefferson could be more composed and unfortunately now was one of them. She had no idea how he felt about this. And she wanted to know! So badly! Her lips curled into the smallest smile when he asked her how she felt about it. It was nice of him to consider her feelings like that. He was being sweet. But...She just wanted to know what this meant to him! “Jefferson..I want this baby,” she began softly, surprised herself at how much emotion could be packed into five tiny words like that. They carried the weight of her heart somehow. “Jefferson, I really want this baby! But I want you to want it too! I don’t want to be a single mother!” With Henry..It had been so difficult! And this time...She didn’t have to do it alone, did she? She wasn’t adopting! This was her flesh and blood! And it wasn’t just hers! It was Jefferson’s too! He...He’d want to be involved wouldn’t he?! He’d want to have a family with her, wouldn’t he?! Or would he be scared?! Would he think everything was moving too quickly?! Please...Please let him want this child, their child, the proof of their love! He wouldn't...He wouldn't reject that would he?!
