Liam was highly amused at her stuttering. He knew he had been brought up in a different way, respecting women and men alike and finding no offense in sharing intimacy of a sort with another man. It wasn’t like he was hurting anyone with it. He had been faithful while engaged, of course. Before being in a committed relationship, though, he did seek comfort, even in a man sometimes. It did not make him prefer men or even want them. He watched her squirm a bit. The poor woman. It seemed like she was a bit afraid of him making a big fuzz out of this.
“Rose, calm down. No harm done. Let me explain.” He pointed to the seat. He sat down himself, pulling the burger to him. It was still hot, good. “I did turn to men for comfort. I slept with men. Many sailors did. During many months on sea especially a navy vessel did not hold female company. Sometimes you got lonely. Sometimes you got drunk. We sometimes spent nights together then. That’s it. But that does not mean I prefer men. Or that I find them particularly attractive. I was engaged to a woman 300 years ago, Rose. Needless to say that engagement is off the table for obvious reasons.” Said reasons being his fiancée was dead for around 250 years now.

“How could I not blame myself, Elizabeth? This was caused by my ill judgment. This was caused by me abandoning you, while I promised, to both of you that I wouldn’t.” And yet he had done it. He had trusted someone over his brothers judgment. How stupid was that, please? How could he have ever done that? He was so dumb, so stupid.
“Of course he did not blame me. He blamed himself. He blamed himself for not being able to stop him. You know this idiot, I know him. He blamed himself!” And again Liam should have been there to stop that. He should have told his brother to stop blaming himself right after he saved him. He should have made sure there was no doubt in this thick head of his brother. But of course he thought he’d survive this. He hadn’t expected his death, despite the poison. He really had been stupid.
“I know he is here.” It was the first thing that caused him to smile right then. He should hammer this into Killians head once he got to meet him. And he had a few more words to exchange with him. “I have met the woman he’s in love with. She mentioned him.” Liam kissed her back softly, knowing he never wanted this to stop. How could he ever let go of her again? She was the love of his life! “I am here and so are you. We get more time. Together and with Killian. And now even with his Emma. She seems to be a great lass.”

“Well, Emma, since we are to be familiar, please call me Liam. Or whatever name you see fit. You will be the woman of the household.” If not the head of it. They would see about it, depending on the dynamics they would develop. Liam would give her as much power as she wanted and as much as she could handle. He would see how well it worked out, though. At the very least her head was screwed on right, she was clever enough to see that this was a good chance for her and any delay could give this Regina person an opening towards attacking her. This wedding was to avoid that. She’d be less of a threat if she was married, settled even.
“Good, then lets get married.” It would have to include other things later, but in that very case, Liam was more than prepared to lie for her. He’d be the last person to pressure her. He wanted to get this marriage under wraps, everything else would be private between them. And it should remain so. Liam took her hand – again not exactly protocol, but he hoped to make is as comfortable for her as it was and this kind of contact could hardly hurt. Together he walked her to the priest, who’d officiate this wedding. In passing one of the guards handed him a tiny box, the ring her parents had insisted upon and he wanted to honor it. He’d honor a lot, but most importantly his promise to her parents.
And so as the vows were spoken and promises exchanged, he slipped her mothers ring onto her finger and smiled at her. “Apparently I am to kiss the bride now. My wife, shall I honor this tradition or shall we save the kiss for later?”

Did she mean that or was it a reaction to his sudden visible discomfort at her focus on Killian? He couldn’t tell, unfortunately he couldn’t see what she was thinking, it would make things so much easier. Maybe he should confront her about the rumors, but he had no right to, no place to ask her about any suitor at all unless she possibly felt the same for him. But a gorgeous woman like that? A lady so far above him in status could never love him. He was her friend, guard perhaps, but that was it.
Once at the picnic site, he made a point to not look at her as he let go of her to busy himself with the basket. He had made sure she would like the food he brought. It was some of her favorite dishes, but durable enough to survive long enough out here – unless the water would have come in unexpectedly. And that was highly unlikely, since he and Killian knew the sea well enough to never be surprised by her changing nature.
“You think?” Did she honestly consider this the best spot? He hoped for. “I arranged for some of your favorite dishes. And this…” No he had not arranged for this. The rose Liam pulled out of the basket was not put there by him, but by someone else, someone who shared his last name. Sneaky bastard! He held it out to her as he knelt there. God this looked almost like a proposal and he was very, very aware of the position his brother had put him in there. He'd have his revenge - maybe. Depending on how this would end.

That must have been Killian telling her he could. How else would she know? Or she just assumed due to knowing how he was a Captain in his time. Either way whatever skill he could provide them with, he would do so, for sure. Liam couldn’t help but chuckle at her expression. She seemed so full of wonder and joy right now. Was this all because she had heard of him through his brother? What had the idiot told her?
“Good. I’d hate to see him loose that. It could have saved my life.” But it didn’t, because Liam had been just as stubborn as Killian – it ran in the family, it would appear. For what it was worth, he was glad he retained that stubbornness. It was just Killian. In the end, he listened to reason still, over being stubborn and wanting to be right. Liam knew, if the man he knew was in any way similar to the man she knew, his brother was still a wonderful person, despite having gone through a lot. And she, she loved his brother, he loved her and she chocked up on his behalf. This was beautiful to witness.
“I am happy, too, lass. For this chance. I did not get to say goodbye, there are things left unsaid and I fear he might have blamed himself for my death. I shall make it right, if I get the time.” Maybe, he should tell her now, just in case. “And I am happy to meet the woman he loves and who so obviously loves him. I can already tell you must be a wonderful person, to have captured his heart. And a strong woman. I’d love to get to know you more, if we get the time. But lass, what really is this place? It looks really weird.”

“I did. She’s a gorgeous young lass. I can see why you love her.” Even though Emma hasn’t commented on his love for her, there was simply no doubt left for Liam. He knew his brother just too well. He knew that him telling her about his existence meant he cared a great deal about her. He knew his brother closed off way too easily, but she had information she’d not have any other way. And he could see she loved Killian. She was a lucky lass, since Killian once he loved, he loved with all his heart and soul.
It was his brothers question for food, though, the observation that he used to never say no to it, the ship, that simply tore at his heart again. After all this time, Killian still remembered those tiny details. He remembered even that. And the Jewel… Liam gingerly ran his hand over the railing of the ship as he stepped aboard. With a heavy silence filling the air, he took it all in. The emotion had him tight in its grip. The ship was in excellent condition: The deck swabbed perfectly, even the on deck cargo was in perfect shape, secured and everything. Despite this no longer being a ship of the Navy, it was in perfect condition, ship shape. But Killian… he hadn’t been. He heard that. From more than one source right now. After all this time, though, Killian remembered him, holding on to the memory of him. It did show how much his baby brother loved him. And he felt the same. But he also felt this immense guilt and pain. He hurt him, not by choice, but he hurt him none the less. He was glad his back was turned to him, so Killian could not see those two soft tears running down his cheeks.
“Brother… she’s in perfect shape. I… I can’t even imagine what you’ve been through. I can’t for a moment fathom what happened in the time passed. I just know… I know you’ve been hurt. By me. I am so sorry, brother, for the pain I caused you. I … should have listened to you and for that I am sorry, but most importantly it breaks my heart. It breaks my heart to know I failed you. And yet it fills me with so much joy and pride to know you’ve survived this, to know you found people, your love. If this isn’t permanent, I shall rest in peace, knowing you’re in good hands. I’m so sorry, brother. Killian, I never meant to…. I should have been the one holding you through pain and sickness, yet you held me. And it’s not fair on you. Can you forgive me?”

From the moment his mother first spoke to him of love until now, Liam Jones always hoped he’d be able to marry for love. He was lowly born and had climbed through ranks by himself, sweating his own sweat and blood in order to raise his and his brothers statuses. As such he had come to be a well respected captain of the navy, respected even by his king. This had ultimately caused him to stand in a church, wearing full formal attire, waiting to meet his fiancée for the first time in order to marry her.
As far as he understood, the match came to be through his queen. She was befriended to the royal family of a neighboring country, who had just been thrown down by an usurper. Their king had agreed to get the princess out of danger, by arranging for a match. As a thrown down princess, she was no match for anyone close to the royal family by birth. But it appeared both his king as well as her parents would like to entrust her in his care and as such Liam accepted his duty to her and her family and the duty to her country it would eventually hopefully bring. First and foremost, though, he had promised to protect her, with his life if necessary and keep her safe, no matter the circumstances. It would contain doing whatever pleased her, treating her well.
When he first saw her, Liam was blown away by her stunning beauty. She looked every part the princess. Even the gown said as much, probably one of the few she had left. She would have to get used to simpler garments with him, but he hoped he could make it worth her while. Instead of waiting, like it was protocol, he decided it might help her nerves if he met her halfway. And in any case her father was not giving her away, for multiple reasons. Once there, he offered her his arm.
“Princess Emma. I know it’s not protocol, though I thought it might ease your nerves. I am Captain Liam Jones. Are you well? Nervous? Should we delay the ceremony? We can.” Though he thought they should get it over with and then find a place where she could sit and rest after her journey.

Liam jumped! He actually physically jumped a little in his seat, so surprised was he by his brother pushing him a little. He did not expect it, never even really noticed the younger one was in the house to begin with. Damn it. And of course he had to tease him about it. What was he meant to say? He couldn’t admit to daydreaming. That was just not him. He was meant to be his brothers role model. What crappy role model would he be? But damn, he was just day dreaming.
“Not daydreaming. Thinking.” He lied. Killian probably saw straight through it. “And in any case, brother, where have you been?” Docks, probably, knowing him. Helping with one of the ships, like he usually did. He was a good kid, intending to fulfill his duty. But of course his brother could not keep his mouth shut. Liam felt his stomach drop at the mention of Elizabeth and rumors. She was victim to rumors? And since when did they listen to it?
“What rumors, brother? Is she alright?” Liam got up, nervous and furious at the same time. They better not dare talk bad about this precious woman. She had been the perfect daughter, the perfect friend and all that. Why would anyone spread a rumor about her?

“Bear? That is an adorable name.” And befitting. If he was correct that little puppy would become quite the big dog one day, a great little guardian for a woman as physically fragile as Rose seemed to be. Not that he doubted her mind, but her body was just not as well trained as those of some men and women he had encountered in this world so far – honestly some of those women didn’t even resemble women anymore. Everyone was entitled to their own standards, but to Liam it was just weird to question whether this mass of muscle was male of female. He didn’t get the concept of it, but as long as they were happy, who was he to complain? After their hug, in which Liam thought he might have held her just a little too long, he grinned.
“Bacon cheeseburger. I know what bacon is and what a cheeseburger is by now, but what the hell is a bacon cheeseburger?” Given though that Granny had yet to present him with anything that was completely inedible, he was unlikely to complain and likely to just nod along and agree with everything. While she made herself at home, he walked to the small incorporated kitchen to fetch them something to drink. He opted for coke, water and orange juice and managed to place the item on the coffee table just in time for Rose to comment on his boyfriend. His boyfriend. How in the hell did she get the idea he had a boyfriend? How did she get the idea he was gay, when he was very, very much into women. And then he saw the jacket. Of course.
“That’s Mullins jacket… you thought he and I are together? He’s not my boyfriend, Rose. He’s married. Or was, back in the day. His wife died. He’s just one of my oldest friends. He was originally in the Navy with me and stayed with Killian through it all. He’s not… he’s not my boyfriend.” That being said it wasn’t like Liam didn’t have experiences with men. He had. The original plan had been for Liam to stay relatively close to Henry during the shattered sight spell, to be a bit of a last barrier between whoever might want to harm the child and the child. In the short time Liam had been here already, he had started to understand what Killian meant when he spoke of being fond of Henry. For his age he was surprisingly mature, yet he never lost the charm of a kid, never lost his innocence. Like his brother Liam had been inclined to offer his protection for the boy, but it seemed the former Naval Captain was much easier trusted in this town than his brother, thanks also to said brother. Killian had earned the peoples respect, even though he might not see it himself. Liam knew their new trust for Killian and the growing trust for him, was the basis for their trust in him and he had no intention of letting his brother or any of them down. As it happened, though he did let them down. As the spell hit the hard working Captain gave in to his urges of just RESTING. He overslept almost the entire thing and as it passed he just did not find the strength to get up. Liam had felt it in the past days: The urge to rest grew, his body weakened. He felt dizzy the day after the curse. Too dizzy.
That morning Liam overslept as well. Hell he barely even managed to get up and dressed in time for Emma, Queen Elsa, her sister and soon to be brother in law, as well as the King and Queen leaving the diner in order to get them through some portal to Arendelle. Liam said his goodbyes to them, but to his own surprised refused to join them, instead opting to stay in the diner, telling the savior he was still under the weather. It was not far from the truth, but it just didn’t have anything to do with the spell. What he had was of a different nature. Possibly of a nature he had seen before, but he tried to ignore it, had to ignore it. If it was the same sickness his mother had died off there was nothing he could do, but spare Killian of the worry. It only took a while before Liam fell asleep, sitting in a corner booth.

The Captain understood his brothers desire to make sure he survives again. He understood it, would do the same for him. He had put him through so much already, he did not want to add this to it. To watch his brother die for a third time, how cruel would that be? He really did not want to do this to his beloved baby brother. Yet what was he to say? I shall not be that stupid this time and listen to your wise judgment, brother? Not going to happen. Knowing Killian his ego was still as big as it used to be. He hoped it was. After all his brother usually knew what he was talking about. Why the hell had he not listened to him and trusted their king above the one person who would never lie to him? He should have trusted Killians guts.
“I can see it does. I have met some interesting people already.” People, who encouraged him about his brothers status, who made it that much easier seeing his brother as he now knew he was cared for. He was not alone, even if he might think that in dark nights.
“Rest? Killian I have been dead for however many years I have been dead. I would thing I am as well rested as you can get. I am not about to lay down and let precious time pass. We don’t know how long we got. I want to make the most of it.” He wanted to spend every second with the people he loved and he wanted to learn more of his brothers life here, wanted to be sure he was loved. And he wanted to make sure this woman he loved, knew how to deal with him even when Killian himself did not know.
“The Jewel? You still have her? Of course!”

It felt like it was a physical punch to his stomach, like the poison was once again firmly gripping his heart, killing him once more as he learnt of the fate of the woman he loved. He had hoped, so badly, she would carry on, she would find new love, if not in his brother and have the family she longed for, the wedding she deserved and of course the husband she deserved. He had hoped she would have gotten it all and now he learnt she had gotten nothing, instead had taken her life, because… because she could not live in a world where she lost them both. She had seen no hope.
“Elizabeth…” His voice was a mere whisper, shock and pain evident in them. He never wanted for this to happen. He never wanted her to suffer like this and once more he felt like it was his fault. Because if his brother changed after his death, it could be influenced by his death. Knowing him it probably was. He caused them both pain. They both mourned and it changed Killian, of course it did. The sum of it all was caused by him. He killed her. In a way he killed her. It was his fault.
“I am… so sorry. I never meant… I did not want to do this to you, to both of you. I trusted in the wrong person. I was stubborn, I paid the price, but neither of you should have had to pay this price. I am so sorry.”

It sounded like the dead were rising right, left and center. No wonder this woman seemed so troubled. With the dead rising, there was no way this was a natural occurrence. It had to be magical. How else could this happen? Magic was the only logical explanation to him and probably to others, too. However it was not his most pressing concern. The woman Killian loved had been murdered she said? What had his brother been through? All the more reason for him to be grateful to meet this woman and see and hear in her that she cared and with her probably others as well. Again this was information his brother would most likely not give someone unless he trusted them completely.
“I am at your service, in whatever way I can help.” Even if it caused his death again. If it protected the living, to which his brother belonged, he would do so. It had been part of his job in the past and had always been part of his life ever since he met this tiny bundle of blankets containing Killian. To have the confirmation though, that this woman loved his brother, was more than he could wish for. Liam let his emotions overcome him then. He pulled the blonde into a hug, holding her close as he whispered into her ear.
“In that case, dear, it is an even bigger honor to meet you.” He let go of her. “I can tell you are a great lass and I can tell my brother trusts you, otherwise he would not have given you those informations. I know him. He is bloody stubborn.”

“What girls, Elizabeth? I say that only to you.” God, Killian would be so much smoother with this. He was good with women, the perfect gentleman and he knew what to say to please them. Liam? Not so much. In fact he had rather kept to himself than to make a move on any woman, focused more on his career until, well he lost his heart to her. Still it was madness to think she would ever accept him. He didn’t want a marriage of convenience. He wanted love. He wanted respect between the two partners, no titles or anything. Liam knew he was strange that way, but he wanted to be happy. And he wanted his brother to be happy. That was all that mattered, he learnt that when he was left the only guardian of his little brother. It had to be the only thing in his mind, had been next to the thing to motivate him to join the Navy and other things. His spirits were soon crushed, though. Of course, Killian. How could he even for a second think he’d be the desirable one.
“He is a man of honor and a good boy.” He commented almost dryly. Damn it was that jealousy? Of course it was. He had fallen for her, but she probably had fallen for Killian. He couldn’t blame her. His brother was a great young man, active, happy, honorable and handsome. Who could ever blame her for falling for Killian? That possibly meant that his idea was entirely inappropriate as well, but it would be a pity for the food, food that Liam had learnt to honor when he was young and had to feed his brother and himself.
“I have brought a picnic.”, Liam said. “It’s just ahead around the corner. I thought homemade food and the sunset could be a nice way to spend the evening.”

Not living with his brother felt very, very weird initially. Like something was missing. By now Liam knew he had lived for centuries without him, but not willingly. He had been held captive – one of the reasons why he could not live with Killian anymore. They called it ptsd. At first the most obvious manifestation was Liams obvious fear of anything involving the sea. He feared what he once loved, couldn’t even bring himself to board the Jolly Roger anymore, despite the ship never having been the source of his pain, but the fear of the Leviathan getting to him. To his own surprise though, he was beginning to set down ties of his own. He was still hesitating to mingle with the people Killian loved, his new family, not for fear of being rejected, but simply because he enjoyed seeing how unconsciously happy his little brother was about having them. And he was settling as well after all. He was having friends here, he was happy and recovering. At night Liam was still kicking out, he would attack whoever was in his home with him, no exception, so living with anyone was no option anymore.
Liam had just made tea – he adored the variety of leaves in this land, but the milk was all wrong, so he went for sugar to sweeten it instead of milk making it less bitter – as he heard the knock on the door. A grin spread on his face. He had an idea who this was. Though he had had no idea of the state he’d find her in in front of his door. The former Captain chuckled.
“Hello, Rose.” He immediately reached for what Rose was holding and placed it on a counter inside, before kneeling down, to stop the dog from tying her up further. He unclipped the leash and picked him up, moving the leather back around her feet to start loosen it. “Who’s this little buddy you brought? Seems like he wants to have you all to himself! Come on in.”
