All those centuries. Wait how the hell was Killian still alive? Was this even possible? For a human to survive this long? How did he do it? But what did it matter? After all this time they were finally all reunited again. And they got to meet Emma. Maybe this was why they survived for this long? To meet her. Maybe she was it, his brothers One, his True Love. He'd be happy. Emma was, as far as he could see, a truly amazing lass.
Liam pulled her hand up, gently kissing her ring finger. "We've been married in spirit long before that, Elizabeth. We were meant to be, my love. Our souls have been born linked, destined to end up together one day. Maybe fate planned to put our love to the test like this and we did it. Elizabeth, we've been married in spirit for so long. But I can not wait to put a ring on your finger and to show to the world, that we belong together, irrevocably." He even had had a ring back then. It had been on the Jewel, in the safe. He wondered if Killian still had it on the ship, if he still had the ship. For now though, Liam let go of her hands to remove his jacket. Quickly he ripped a golden strand off of the jacket. He seperated it, to create two thin enough strands. Then Liam took her hand back. "I love you, Elizabeth, now and forever. You are my wife. And for as long as we're given time, I shall worship you, through thick and thin, for better or worse. I shall be with you through everything. As your devoted husband." Gently he tied the strand around her ring finger, before offering the second one. It wasn't custom for men to wear a ring back in their time. But he did not care. He wanted to show it to the world as well.

"Would I have offered if I minded, Emma?" He wouldn't have. Had he been concerned for the crews opinion in any of this, he would have consulted them, but he made the rules here, the crew had to follow them. To him the rules meant to be as good to his young wife as possible. She'd have to make enough sacrifices as it was, she deserved a husband, however unknown he was, who'd treat her with respect and care, even if they might not fall in love. And she owed that to his mother, to a strong woman, who had taught Liam how to respect women and that they were more than deserving of it.
"Well then, my dear wife, I shall be fetching food for us. Wait here, make yourself comfortable. I shall be back shortly." With that the Captain left his quarters again. Up on deck he requested help from the cook, to help carry the food down as Liam sadly only had one pair of hands. He loaded both trays he fetched with a bit of everything, main course, soup, dessert, salad, so they'd both have as much choice as they could have. The cook helped him balance the trays down. Liam carried one inside, then returned to the door to carry the other inside. Both of them were placed on his desk. "I hope the food is to your taste. We tried to cook as ... accommodating to your kingdoms cuisine, but a ships cook can only do so much." As he had done his task, he finally removed his jacked and opened the buttons of his vest, breathing deeply. Damn those restrictive clothes. He turned, scratching his ear out of nerves. So they were alone now, just the two of them, to get to know each other.

Liam was slightly surprised at how she did not expect to be given the information. Why would he withhold it from her? Those were her parents, she had every right to care about them and every right to information about their safety and whereabouts. He smiled almost sadly at her. Once upon a time, he would have paid the devil for the whereabouts of his father. But he had been betrayed by the man. Emma on the other hand had been given to him to keep safe in more than one way. “Emma, I will give you whatever information about your family that I will gather over time. Whatever knowledge I have off them, you shall have as well, the good as well as the bad, as long as you’re inclined not to kill the messenger.” Aka him then. So much could still happen, but for now the King and Queen were safe in exile and so was their daughter, in exile and married, away from the Queen and probably away from her interest. She might just see the fact that she married no prince, that she was a lowly Captains wife, nothing fancy. If only she knew this wasn’t the plan at all. Liam kissed his wife back softly, still feeling glad she seemed to be at ease with him. It would make their marriage a lot easier. Once parted he couldn’t help himself. Her cheeks turned a delicious pink, like ripe peaches and he just had to kiss her cheeks.
“Dinner is indeed, ready. Shall we go or shall I bring it to you?” He’d do whatever made her feel comfortable. For now, he didn’t have intentions of letting go of her. The soft touches were comforting, even to him. “You know you have full choice in here. This night shall be commanded by what you want above traditions. I am fully prepared to lie about tonight, if you’re not comfortable with this, Emma. This goes at your pace and I shall comply with what you command. Though, don’t think I don’t desire you, Emma.”

Liam chuckled as Elizabeth started to elaborate on what she thought should be mentioned in describing him. His brother would probably describe other features of him. Like, for example their similarities, the fact that he was slightly taller than him, wrinkles, the locks, which they did not share. Still, it did make sense for this Emma to recognize him, knowing now that Killian had spoken of him. It filled his heart with warmth to know that after all these years his baby brother still hadn’t forgotten him, still thought of him as important enough to tell the woman he loved about him. “I am pretty sure my brother would not mention such a thing, you know he has a bit of an ego. He might have mentioned my beautiful fiancée, though, my good taste in women and such.”
As she spoke of their wedding, he laced their fingers together, holding her hands tightly. He hadn’t even given a thought to it until now. If they’d live long enough, they could get married again. She deserved the full ceremony. But maybe they only had a little time frame. Maybe this was their one shot and he had no intention of letting it pass.
“If we get the chance to, my love, if we will have a beautiful wedding. But if not, let us exchange vows now. We’d not be legally married, but we’d be in our hearts.”

His brother, always prepared to set his head straight and remind him of their childhood. He might have raised him, but eventually they had become equally caring about each other. As kids, Liam had done everything he could to feed him, even gave Killian a bit more to ensure he’d grow and be happy. As kids, he had done everything for Killian, only expecting a hug or two in return, which Killian had always freely given and so much more. Now they both gave each other equal support. Now, whenever Liam was injured, Killian effortlessly took over the entire household and nursed him back to health and vice versa.
“No… she always awaited us with open arms, eager to hear our stories.” And eager to check them for injuries or sicknesses. Not even that had kept her way from the both of us. She would indeed accept either of them unconditionally. With them she knew already what husband she would be getting. She would know exactly what would await her, so should she accept him to court her and to marry her, she knew what would be ahead of her already. And he’d be damned if he didn’t try to better their position through hard work. Though he still doubted, even as Killian said he knew them, even as he claimed Elizabeth felt the same. What if he saw the right signs, but misjudged them because she loved Killian, not him? Who in their right mind would not fall for a handsome young man like Killian, but the serious brother instead?
“Of course she values love above all, I know that Killian. And I know she’d rather marry for love than for position. Iknow that. But what if you’re wrong? What if she’s fallen for you, not me?”

Uncharacteristic skills of the Jones' brothers Cooking - Both Killian and Liam are good cooks. Not gourmet restaurant good, but good enough to taste good. The older brother learnt the basics out of necessity, because he had to feed his younger brother somehow when they were alone. The rest he learnt in the Navy. Killian learnt by observing Liams cooking, as well as in the Navy. The Navy, since ships were mostly manned by men, did not allow for traditional gender roles so cooking and cleaning was always part of what their youngsters learnt. For Killian this skill proved to be more than helpful in Neverland. Swimming - A lot of sailors, even in the Navy never learnt to swim. Liam and Killian are a happy exception. Having grown up close to water, they learnt it basically as soon as they learnt to walk from their mother. She didn't want her boys to drown after all. So both Killian and Liam could save drowning men or women, if they wanted to without endangering their own lives.

Captain Liam Jones watched as the water slowly turned red. It was not a sight he liked, but one he had to endure. Now, less than before. His stomach had gotten to the sight and smell of blood, as it coated his clothing often. Like his brother, he had switched to blacks and dark colors, which was more handy with the blood stains than the white and beige navy uniform they previously wore. Slowly all men trickled back to the ship, finishing whatever skirmish they had been engaged in previously. Originally the captain had intended to try to avoid as much bloodshed as possible.
Liam had just put his scabbard away as he helped a few men back on board. “Be careful of the water. Half of you rats can’t swim and with the amount of the blood in the water only idiots will dive after you to save you.” He knew any shark close by could smell the massacre. They’d use it and at least try human. Even if they didn’t specifically kill humans, a single bite could end a life. “Where’s my first mate?” He couldn't spot him among the people climbing back on board. Knowing him, he was right in the back, helping someone.

So he honestly hadn’t seen it? A part of him was wounded by it, but then again, he had shown untypical behavior. How would Killian know that his fear of the creatures was now very, very real? Liam had no real strength in his limbs as he felt drained. No wonder after escaping the magical hold of a vile creature like Leviathan and then passing out. He probably needed a few days to recover from all of that. Still he managed to move his arms enough to roll up his torn sleeves to reveal the scars on them, that the burning ship left.
“It was me. The Leviathan held me captive all those years. That was why I was scared of the waters and the creatures inside. I … I couldn’t shake my fear of falling back into its clutches.” And then he did. But it caused him to survive. And for the first time in all those years, he had his brother close again without a single doubt of them being real, at least he hoped so. Because he was very real and probably unable to even get up, if he wanted to. “Killian, I understand your decision. You had a crew to care for and I acted uncharacteristically, I know that. How could you know what caused it? You did what a captain had to do: Protected your crew.” And that perhaps saved their lives that day. So, he was glad of it. Killian lived and that was all that should ever matter to his older brother. “You don’t happen to have water, brother? Apart from feeling weak, I feel like a dried out fish right now.”

Fine, his brother admitting he had been a pirate, caused Liam to freeze for a second. They spent so many years rejecting piracy, focusing on doing the honorable thing and now he had to find out that Killian, after all the time succumbed to that? How could he? And why? What could have brought Lieutenant Jones to this drastic measures of becoming a pirate? Liam remembered all those occasions where he met pirates, where his brother met them, how they were screwed over. He remembered an attack on a city, launched by pirates in which many lives were lost. He remembered his own frantic searching of their house after one pirate attack where kids were abducted, only to find his brother safe in the keep of Elizabeths family to protect him. He remembered a sailors slit throat the horror of the sound the escaping breath of the dying soldier made. How could Killian become one of them? Yet he tried, so hard to not let the surprise and horror be seen in his eyes. This was Killian. This was his brother, his brother of whom this Emma spoke so highly, his brother who valued honor and a code…. A code.
Slowly other memories came to him as well: Pirates stealing to ensure their families safety. Words exchanged to ensure a fair trial between pirates, a fairer trial than what the man would have gotten from their king. He remembered a fellow captain approaching him, telling him to take the Jewel and turn his back on the king and become a pirate. Liam refused, for honor and Killian sake. Slowly the picture became clearer to him. Just because he was a pirate, does not mean he became a monster, one of those kinds. That was just not in him. And he heard it in every following word. As he said he hurt others, was on a quest for vengeance for the woman he loved. Now, that was the Killian he knew, a man who knew a conscience and who protected his loved ones at all costs. Speaking of: He became a pirate, it made sense to him then. He turned from the king and that was good. Liam, had he survived dreamshade, would have been on the same path with him. It was sealed the moment they both chose to reveal the kings plans. As fiancé to Elizabeth and well respected Captain of the Navy, respected especially by the King, he had power, but not limitless powers. Had they been unlucky, piracy would have been the way for both of them, for the King would have likely wanted to kill them both. Who was he to judge, when his own path was headed in the same direction?
“You god damn, idiot, Killian!”, Liam exclaimed. He pulled him back in for another hug and then ruffled his hair as he had done when they were young boys. “And you think that bothers me? Killian, had I survived, I would have become a pirate myself and knowing you, you would have followed me into piracy. We planned on exposing the kings vile ways. Despite the power we held, despite the peoples support, we fought a losing battle that day. He would have cast us out or sentenced us to death. Piracy would have been our only option in the end, either way. And what you say, this… this is my brother.” He took a step back and placed his hand on Killians heart. “My brother loves deeply and honestly, whoever harms his loved ones has to reckon with consequences. And given your wrath, I am sure this person deserved whatever pain you caused him. I know you, little brother. Can’t you hear it? Your conscience, it tells you what you did was wrong. No vile man, no monster, no villain has a conscience like that, no clarity like that. I have every reason to be proud of you, brother. You have not failed me at all. Don’t you see? I would have turned against all the authorities in heaven and hell for you and sought revenge for you and Elizabeth, too. You retained your humanity, you made mistakes, but here you are, seeing them. You stupid idiot.” The last words were spoken with all the brotherly affection he held.

What could he possibly want to hear? Liam could think of several things he could say or do, but could it convince his baby brother? Did he want it to convince him? In reality he didn’t mind to be thrown overboard again, as long as Killian escaped with his life – hell he didn’t even particularly care for Killians crew. Most of them were strangers these days, strangers he didn’t know. Only one or two seemed to still remain from his time. For a moment Liam wondered what happened to the rest, especially to Lewis, who seemed to have been a close confidant to Killian. Absentmindedly, he touched the scars on his arms, the visible burns that not even Leviathan bothered to heal.
“For the record, you should toss me back.” It was just as simple and it would protect their lives. He should throw him overboard, no matter what he would say, but part of Liam was selfish. Part of him just wanted to hug his brother again, to hold him and tell him that all would be alright. Part of him wanted to finally escape the Leviathans clutches. And suddenly, born from the urge to hold his brother and to soothe him, he knew what he could say – or not say. The one thing that only he could know, no other, that maybe Killian himself had buried deep in his heart in pain. Liam began to softly sing the lullaby their mother had taught him, the lullaby he had sung to him even long after their mother had passed. Only Killian would understand what this was and meant and only him and Liam knew of this song and their mother singing it, as well as him singing it to him. As the final tones faded, Liam looked up at him again. “Believe me now, little brother?”

Liam slowly entered the cabin, hoping she was decent. As it happened it appeared she was. He was glad about it. This marriage was probably taking a toll on either way, so he wanted to be sure to always respect her boundaries. That included being as kind and considerate as possible. And it would include lying for her, if he had to, especially about the consummation of their marriage. He was surprised though at her choice of night dress and robe. It appeared to him that she wanted to stay in here or close to the quarters. Then again she had just traveled here, he wouldn’t be surprised if she was just exhausted and wanted to rest. Liam would be perfectly fine with that.
“There is no need to apologize, Emma. You have all the time you need here. You’re on my ship, so luckily I make the rules. If I say my wife gets to do as she wishes not a single sailor will question it, least of all me.” She’d get used to it, eventually. Eventually they’d know each other well enough for her not to apologize for something like that. Liam reached for her hand, his thumb tracing a pattern on the back of her hand, while his other hand was placed gently on her cheek.
“I can help you with that, Emma. They should be safe. They have boarded a ship after you did, heading towards the islands in the north. The kingdom of Arendelle will grant them sanctuary. The Evil Queen might try to reach it, but by the time she does, they will be warned. They are safe, for now. As are you.”

“I do, lass. I know that.” How could he not? He might have let him down by dying, but in his lifetime Killian had expressed not only his pride, but his adoration for his brother as well. Liam was aware of his pride every step of the way. He remembered his last promotion very well, remembered the dark haired teen standing proud and tall in the crowd as if it was his own promotion. And vice versa, Liam was just as proud as Killian was during Killians last promotion during his lifetime. He was sad though, that he knew Killian couldn’t have told her much about their mother. He had been so young when she died.
“Motorized? Well, I still have no idea what this is, but I get the feeling, if this chance is longer, I will learn all about it.” Whatever that meant. He was still a bit skeptic. He knew automats from his time, but nothing that big and obviously without any form of power that he knew of. But if this chance remained, he’d learn about it.
“I… you say it’s safe?” Oh well he should trust her. If not for her, his brother did, so why not. “Very well, my Lady. But I hope you will forgive my skepticism. It is not at you or your… driving? The machine itself is strange to me. And causing slight mistrust. I much rather trust into people.”

“I hope so.” He couldn’t wait, but at the same time he was nervous of it. While he knew time did not leave people the way they were, he hoped his brother was still in essence Killian. Then again nothing in this world could make him stop loving the younger man. Why should he? There was something very important in their relationship, which was their past, the shared past of having to be there for each other. Their relationship was simply unique that way, with him having to be not only big brother but also some form of father – something that cause Liam to still hate the man with a passion. Leaving him was one thing, but Killian? He was so small and innocent, why would he just abandon him on a freaking ship? But that didn’t matter now. What did was to have his love back and maybe to have a second chance. Maybe they lived long enough to finally marry. She deserved it.
“Well I hope you get to meet her, love. She… she is perfect for him as far as I can tell. She is not only a curse breaker, but also the Sherriff of this town. But that’s not even what’s important to me. You should have heard her speak of him, so highly, almost adoringly. She truly loves him. And he loves her. She recognized me, Elizabeth. Can you imagine that? She recognized me, a complete stranger. Killian has spoken to her about me and you know how he is, he keeps what hurts him to himself unless he absolutely trusts someone. And he trusted her enough to tell her about me, in so much detail that she could tell who I was just by looking at me. He loves her.”

“Then it shall be done.” They actually agree to it. How weird that felt. She wanted him as he wanted her. Liam could not help it. He had to lean forward to capture her lips in another soft kiss again. His entire body seemed to shake with the happiness of her accepting him, a mere captain, to be the man to court her. Now, the rumors could be true and he would not be bothered by them as the man to court her was him. Then again he did not want this to be the towns talk. He wanted them to enjoy this in silence.
“Then, my love, I believe I have picked the right food and drink for this day. Only your favorites.” As far as possible. Liam motioned to the basket with a grin, as he pulled out the bottle filled with sweet juice out for them. “I don’t know if it still tastes good, but we tried.” As far as they could at least. They were no professional cooks after all. “I think now you know where Killian has excused himself to. I don’t know if he actually is where he says he is. He might be, but he also might not be. Who knows what he’s up to again?”

Liam felt it then and there that something was wrong with his brother. He did not know what, but he was determined to find out about it, as soon as he actually found the strength not to fall asleep again. What the hell was wrong with him? Maybe his body really did not like the strain it was put under and just needed prolonged rest. Or maybe he was sick. If he was, he’d not be surprised if it was the case, given their family history. At least he could hope that Killian did not remember the time their mother got sick. He was so young. He might remember having to take care of her and having to be silent. He even might remember how Liam sometimes snapped at him, but hopefully most of the symptoms have by now faded from his memories. It’s been centuries, but for Liam it was actually still clear: He remembered how the first thing that happened to her was her getting uncharacteristically tired. Back then he was not alarmed yet.
“Nothing is wrong, Killian.” Or maybe something was. He couldn’t tell yet. He had to wait. Maybe it got better. Maybe it would get worse. He had to wait and see and monitor it. For his brothers sake he hoped it was nothing. It seemed like Killian had already been through a lot and maybe he was not yet ready to speak. Liam would not bother to try and force it out of him. It seemed though that Killian was just ahead of him today, making him look at him. Apparently he saw something in him, that Liam could not see himself and it seemed to frighten him.
“Killian, no. We don’t need to go to the hospital. I am just tired. Those past days were trying, nothing to worry about.”Bullshit, he had slept through them, but he hated to worry them.
